Welcome to 2016! We have another wonderful year ahead with even more new models on the horizon.

Shortly after the 911 Gen2 has been released on March 5th we will also be finalising our renovations. Our Carrera Café in the Macan and Sports car, newly completed, showroom on Level One, will be fully operational along with our new client waiting area. We have introduced a new Concierge Service designed to help you park quicker and more efficiently; welcome Zaia Daryoush.

In mid-December, I was lucky to drive many of the all-new 911 Gen2 bi-turbo versions in Lisbon at the Estoril Racetrack and through the countryside in Portugal. Having been a little distracted this past year with the thought of losing our naturally aspirated engines, to say I was impressed is an understatement! I have to admit I was wrong: the new all turbo 911 is totally exhilarating in every department. With the sports exhaust switched on, my iPhone connected to an incredible new PCM unit and the enormous screen to guide me, I was “at home“. There are no complaints about the sound and the performance is there immediately. We clocked zero to 100 kph in only 3.9 seconds without even pressing the boost button!

I can only imagine the pleasure to be derived from driving the big brother, our all new 911 Gen2 Turbo S Coupè being built in January for us, with 580hp, 750nm of torque, 2.9 sec to 100 kph and a top speed of 330 kph! Check out our story on pages 12/13, and look out for this particular 911 in April at PCW.

The last time I was in Lisbon was in 2009 when Porsche were marketing 80,000 vehicles worldwide; amazingly we will close 2015 with some 225,000 units delivered: a 19% increase over 2014. Worldwide sales of the 911 have continued to rise since 2012 from 26,100 to 31,200 in 2015: against the trend of our competitors.

In this issue we showcase the highly anticipated Macan GTS (arriving soon) and take you on our trip to Avoca in the Macan S Diesel for our latest Drive Feature. We look back on our customer drive day with our wonderful friends at Keith Tulloch Wine in the Hunter Valley.

As always, keep up to date with our Usability Tips and learn a little bit more about one of our staff, as we profile our incredibly talented and long-standing Master technician, Craig Chivers.

We welcome Felicity Wyker to our front desk reception. After nearly two years at Reception, Cristina Peñafiel has moved into our Sales Department as a consultant.

Here’s to a sensational year ahead; we look forward to welcoming you to Porsche Centre Willoughby very soon.

Rolling start.

PORSCHE MACAN GTS PORSCHE MACAN GTS

The Thoroughbred Sports Car among SUVs.The new Macan GTS The much-anticipated Porsche Macan GTS is finally here. This is the 10th Porsche model to sport the GTS badge and rightfully so. The billboard reading: ‘Life, Intensified’, rings true. The new Macan GTS has a re-engineered chassis with upgraded brakes, which you may well require with a 0-100km/h speed of just 5.2 seconds and 5.0 seconds flat if you’re adding on the popular Sport Chrono package. The Macan GTS is punctual; with a startling top speed of 256Km/h and peak torque a high 500Nm.

We are thrilled by the promise of even sportier performance over already acclaimed driving dynamics. In terms of power, it’s 265kW (360hp), which places the GTS in between the Macan S (250kW) and the Macan Turbo (294kW). While keeping the same twin turbo charged V6 and 3.0 litre displacement of the Macan S, tweaks to the engines tuning have resulted in a 15kW power hike for the GTS.

In keeping with all Porsche GTS models, the body package is strong and muscular and instantly recognisable as a GTS by its dark palate of high gloss accents along the top waistline and lustrous matt black finishes in the lower areas of the body. The quad-exhausts are a particularly attractive design feature in this shade, as are the 20-inch RS Spyder design wheels.

The 7-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox enables gear changes in a fraction of a second, with no interruption in the flow of power. The advantage is that whenever a particular gear is engaged, the next gear is already preselected. While the clutch for the engaged gear is opening, the clutch for the intended gear is closing. This has the effect of making the drive feel more sporty, dynamic and agile. Porsche Traction Management (PTM) carries us on in technological titillation. Traction, naturally, is supreme! The four-

wheel-drive system feels pleasingly rear-biased, although if needed it will instantly send 100% to the front end in an instant, with flexible power distribution to all four wheels.

The Macan GTS combines all the typical Porsche driving dynamics and outstanding everyday usability with a dash of extra sporting spirit. So if you’re the sportier type you’ll appreciate its 15mm lower riding height, as part of the tuning of the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system.

Once you step inside and take your seat, the experience continues. Boasting a new PCM connectivity and infotainment system with multi-touch monitor, extended functions (including Apple CarPlay integration as an option) and more general operating comfort are changes making their debut in an SUV, since the updates were made. The GTS also hosts additional standard equipment including a Digital Radio, Lane Departure Warning system and three-zone climate control.

Special GTS sports seats as well as a full-sounding Sports Exhaust System and Alcantara interior features, ensure the ride is made all the more exhilarating. In response to customer demand and for the first time, the Macan GTS is available with LED headlights as an option. The lights optimise illumination for you under all conditions. The multifunction sports steering wheel follows an

established motorsport principle: keep your hands on the wheel – even when changing gear. You do this manually with the two gearshift paddles: ergonomically, dynamically and fast. As an option, the steering wheel is also available in Alcantara – for optimum grip.

The Macan GTS boasts the same 500-litre boot as the rest of the range, rising to 1,500 litres if you fold the rear seats down. Fuel efficiency of 8.8 l/km, so fuel economy is good. All things considered the latest addition to the Macan line-up blends usability and performance neatly.

If you want the best-driving SUV on the market, look no further.

Today we are headed to Avoca Beach on the NSW Central Coast and our route will take us on the ‘Old Road’, namely the Pacific Highway: a stretch of road that gets very interesting between Berowra and Gosford. Heading north out of Sydney, it’s a haunt for enthusiasts on two and four wheels. Originally a path opened to traffic in 1930 and linking Hornsby to Gosford, there was also at that time a vehicular ferry service crossing the Hawkesbury River. This was replaced in 1945 with a striking steel bridge and the old road has since been superseded by the M1

‘Pie in the Sky’ is the cultural start line and meeting place of many an enthusiastic northern campaign and today is no different.

Joining the road north, we shoot down a corridor of sandstone with tunnel vision glimpses of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park at its end. The road continues to fall with clear visibility of apexes stretching out before us and winding back and forth down the road. A gap in the sandstone wall reveals a vista across the

Hawkesbury River and a sea of green that is Brisbane Water National Park beyond it.

The sun’s relentless surge up into the sky does away with the morning glow and offers in its place a harsh white light. Gum trees moving slowly in the thick air cast shadows across the Macan’s metalwork as we push forward, with guardrail on one side and sandstone cliff of the other we take the middle ground.

The sandstone that has been a constant companion yields to the river and we coast across the 71-year-old fabricated steel bridge that spans the Hawkesbury River. Green signs constantly urge us back onto the M1 but we choose the entertaining twists and turns through Cheero Point and Mount White.

Equipped with Torque Vectoring Plus this S model Porsche Macan adores corners. It works by varying the torque distribution to the rear wheels. When the car is driven into a corner, moderate variable brake pressure is applied to

the inside rear wheel, while also applying a greater amount of drive force to the outside rear wheel. The result shrinks the car around you, quickens the steering and increases agility through every twist and turn. The electronically controlled rear differential lock has you covered in fast corners or where grip levels are explored.

The Old Road Café at Mount White appears on the right and we take the small entry into an Old Road gem that sits nicely in the centre between Sydney and the Central Coast. It is a popular destination for drivers of modern, rare and exotic motorcycles and cars.

Now refreshed we have our sights set on the Mooney Mooney Creek crossing: a crescendo of tight switchbacks that drops down to cross the creek then climbs up the other side into a technical cambered double apex right that leads into a spirited set of corners. Trees now seem to be moving towards the road, visibility decreases as guard rails edge closer and the trees, now taller, reach above us

to form a canopy. We feel momentarily protected from the heat as the road climbs out of the canyon and then onto the plateau, where our Macan S Diesel cuts back through the hot air once again.

Crossing the M1 we loop around the Gosford quarry below us on our right - as industry starts to engulf the Porsche, we are out of the woods now and set our sights on the beach.

A quick blast down Kariong Hill leads us through East Gosford and with a right onto Avoca Drive we are all but at our destination. Avoca is an Irish name meaning, “where the river meets the sea”, and is also the name of a town in County Wicklow, Ireland.

A rich history exists here in the Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club: one of the largest on the Central Coast and, established in 1929, also one of the oldest. So where better, we decided, than to end our drive by cooling down over a lunch at the surf club restaurant overlooking the waves landing on the southern headland.

Compact, concentrated, intense and powerful. Practical but never ordinary. Our Macan now rests with the ocean breeze and admiring eyes flowing over the paintwork, the Porsche Macan S definitely intensifies life.

Avoca Beach on the Central Coast features rocky headlands at each end of a long, golden beach. Popular as a holiday destination, especially for families, it has a vibrant surf culture and a relaxed and friendly ambience. There are lots of things to do, including fishing, beach walking, exploring the nearby parks and headlands, and simply relaxing in a quiet place.

PORSCHE 911 TURBO PORSCHE 911 TURBO S PORSCHE 911 TURBO CABRIOLETPORSCHE 911 TURBO CABRIOLET S

he top models of the second generation 911 series – the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S in both Coupe and Cabriolet now boast 15 kW (20 hp) more power, sharpened design and improved features.

The 911 Turbo S raises the stakes with 427 kW (580 hp) of power thanks to new turbochargers with larger compressors. Porsche is still the only manufacturer to utilize turbochargers with variable turbine geometry in petrol engines.

The new 911 engines now also have a dynamic boost function to further improve engine response in dynamic operation. It maintains the charge pressure during load changes – i.e. when the accelerator pedal is released briefly. This is achieved by just interrupting fuel injection so the

throttle valve remains open. As a result, the engine reacts with practically no delay to throttle response.

Nevertheless, the coupes only consume 9.1 L/100 km and the cabriolets 9.3 L/100 km. This represents 0.6 litres less fuel consumption per 100 km for all versions, courtesy of further advanced electronic engine and transmission management with revised gear change mappings.

The individual setting lets the driver configure and store a custom vehicle setup. Another new feature as part of the Sport Chrono Package is the Sport Response button at the centre of the dial. Inspired by motor racing, it preconditions the engine and gearbox for the best possible response at the push of a button. In this mode, the Turbo and Turbo S can produce optimal acceleration for up to 20 seconds, such as when overtaking.

Sport Response can be called up as often as desired from any of the driving modes.

New options for the 911 Turbo models include the radar-based lane change assist and a lift system for the front axle increasing front spoiler ground clearance by 40mm.

Naturally, the new generation 911 Turbo adopts the same new striking characteristics of the other new 911 models. These are supplemented by typical Turbo features such as the newly formed front end with side air blades and slim twin LED front light strips that give the front end a wider look in combination with the additional blade in the central air intake.

From the side, the high-performance 911s boast new 20” alloys including wider wheel dimensions. The rear body has also been thoroughly re-worked with three-dimensional rear lights with the four-point brake lights. The rear lid grille now features three parts: the right and left sections have longitudinal louvres and a separate cover for optimized air induction for the engine now sitting in the middle.

The new 911 Turbo models will debut at Porsche Centre Willoughby in May 2016.

AUSTRALIA CHALLENGE 2015

Porsche’s inaugural Golf Cup Australia Challenge in 2014 was a resounding success and we now know that a large proportion of our customers are not only passionate about their Porsches, but also about their golf.

Last year the 2015 Porsche Golf Cup Australia Challenge was played, once again, at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Victoria.

Porsche Australia was inundated with interest and applications so due to over-subscription, final places were chosen by ballot.

The five winning players over each of the handicapped groups in the tournament have been invited to represent Team Australia at the Porsche Golf Cup World Final in 2016 in Europe with all costs being defrayed by PCA.

We are thrilled that once again a member of Porsche Centre Willoughby’s clientele was the winner and are delighted that our customer Mike Booth will be representing Australia and Porsche Centre Willoughby in the final in Majorca, Spain in 2016.

We wish all the very best of luck to Mike for the finals! If you are interested in participating in our next golf challenge, please contact our Client Relationship Manager, Laura Twemlow [email protected] or ( 02) 89 666 944

earlier today; that was really cool! It was Cayennes all day until that. Sean came down and took some photos and I said to him,” I’ve driven that! Can I go home now?” They’re the cars that really keep me here.

What are you passionate about outside of work? Outside of here it’s classic American stuff through and through! I’ve always loved old stuff, whether it’s cars, furniture or music.

When did your love of cars start?Early on. My dad was a mechanic and my brother is a panel beater. As a family we are all car people, but we started off with only British cars: Dad was into Hillmans, Morris Minors, Minis and things like that but as soon as I was old enough I said “Let’s get some American cars Dad” and he was reluctant to change. So I bought some, my brother bought some and now low and behold Dad now has a Buick, a Cadillac and a few other things. From the time that I was really little, I was in the garage with Dad working on cars. It was either do that or be in the kitchen with mum, cooking, although I reached an age when I ended up doing that too.

hen did you start with PCW?

I started in 1990 over at Lindfield while the

Willoughby dealership was being finished. I was offered a job at Holden at the same time, but the decision was clear.

How has your role evolved in the dealership?I started my apprenticeship straight from school at 16. I qualified as a mechanic then became a Work Shop Controller & Road Tester. I’m now a Road Tester/Gold Master Technical Foreman, which gets me back to the mechanical stuff. I don’t get that far away from it because that would kill me! My hands are always dirty, I’m not in an office; I’m a ‘hands-on’, ‘screw the bolts in’, “step aside”, “I’ll do it” – sort of guy. I’ve been told by people to “back off”, but it’s only because I want it done right.

25 years is a long time. Did you think you’d be here that long? These things (smiles and looks at the cars) don’t make it boring. I got to drive the RS

WTell us a bit about your family? My lovely wife Mary and I have Curtis who is 7 and Veronica who is 5. Veronica had her dance performance last night so I was on ‘sequin duty’ beforehand. Mary wanted something tropical on her outfit, so I sewed a palm tree of sequins to her leotard. If something needs doing, I’ll do it. The decking around the pool, fixing the oven, the washing machine, even if I don’t know how, I’ll pull it apart and work out how to fix it.

Wow, you are a jack-of-all-trades. Did you consider doing anything else?I had a few options, mechanic, spray painter (which I really wanted to do) and for health reason decided not to. There weren’t as many health regulations back then. I would still love to go and do a night course on airbrushing. I even thought about doing hair dressing, believe it or not. I considered being a chef. Mum says that apparently when I was five, I wanted to be a dentist and drive a Porsche. I now work at Porsche and I married a dental assistant. So I’m sort of there (laughs).

So what cars do you own?I have a Chevy and a 61 Dodge, which I’ve had for 20 years sitting in the garage and

thinking I ought to do something with it. The problem is that with the rarity of the car, it’s really difficult to source parts; I order a part online and there’s no guarantee about its condition and some can’t be reconditioned. With the Chevy it has reproduction parts, so I can get them new on eBay.

What would be the highlight of your 25 years?Probably when it had been 20 years and Ryan Sutton came in and gave me the big silver platter and gold tiepin with ’20 years’. After that, the recent work dinner. Sean gave me a mention and my wife congratulated me when I got home, which was nice. I also really enjoy the Mount Cotton Drive Days and I was lucky enough to be sent down to the East Coast of Tasmania to drive the 997 when it was released – it was amazing!

e departed PCW before the first bird call on the 29th of October, to

meet our clients at Windsor before heading north to our destination -

The Hunter Valley: chosen for reasons extending beyond those more obvious.

The most appealing aspect of our trip was the incredible convoy of 20 plus Porsches and the familiar twists and turns of one of Sydney’s most satisfying driving roads, the Putty Road. It is always magical to watch, feel and hear a Porsche do what it was built to do, especially in this instance, against such a beautiful, bushland backdrop.

All that driving brings about an insatiable appetite and with a delectable feast awaiting us at the award winning, Muse Kitchen, we needed no better reason to tap the throttle.

The ever accommodating and insightful fourth generation wine makers, the Tulloch family, kindly opened up their incredible vineyard to host an exclusive Porsche Willoughby lunch.

Along with the sunshine, Laura Twemlow our Client Relationship Manager was there to greet our party on arrival. She carefully guided a number of Porsches into the grounds between two sandstone pillars marking the entrance of the seriously chic estate. As Laura stood alongside Alasdair Tulloch, son of Keith and Amanda Tulloch, it was apparent that he has inherited what his long lineage would predict: a great love and appreciation of wine making.

Having split into two groups, the first group made its way to a private tasting in the WJ Pitsche Tasting Room, sampling the famous ‘Field of Mars’ collection. Crystal clear fine wines, the colour of straw and palest green were first to touch our palates, with an award winning brightly scented Semillon an instant favourite across the

Some say it is the journey, rather than the destination that’s important; at Porsche Centre Willoughby, we feel both are equally so.

table. Shortly afterwards, being conscious of our drive back to Sydney, we all realised that great discipline would be needed to resist temptation and not to over-indulge. Next to taste was a creamy, well harmonized Chardonnay with an irresistible peach and cream biscuit balance and delicate frame, that to quote James Halliday ‘Drips with quality… Persistence of flavor is exceptional’. Last but certainly not least was the Block 1 Shiraz, which held the highest rated score by Huon Hooke for the 2011 Vintage of Australian Shiraz. Keith sites the wine as his ‘opus magnum’ from 2011 and said he himself would cellar and cherish the Shiraz for decades.

The second group followed Keith Tulloch as he offered a tour of his grounds, detailing the history of the vineyard lovingly referred to as the “Field of Mars”. Keith named the vineyard after a field on the outskirts of ancient Rome on the banks of the Tiber River. It was the training ground for the Roman Legions and with successful Roman conquests became the parade ground for the celebrations of victory.

The groups then changed places, returning afterwards to the Barrel Room for a banquet lunch catered by Muse Kitchen. Seated amongst the oak barrels of maturing wines, our guests enjoyed the mouth-watering food while sharing tales of their driving adventures.

Finishing with superb coffee and hand-made chocolates from Aymee at Cocoa Nib, we set our PCMs and headed back to the hustle and bustle of Sydney.

Special thanks to: Our generous Brand Partners Jan Logan, Henri Lloyd, Keith Tulloch and Muse Kitchen who helped make the day possible.

PORSCHE CENTRE

WILLOUGHBY’S ANNUAL

HILL CLIMB CHALLENGE

Heading into her new role at Porsche Cars Australia as the Marketing Communications Coordinator in Melbourne, she

brings with her 9.5 years experience with the Porsche brand through centres in both Canberra and Willoughby. We wish Alexandra all the very best and are pleased that we will be able to continue working with her in her new role.

We are excited to announce the appointment of our new Marketing and Events Coordinator Sarah Shipley. Sarah comes to us from another luxury car brand and is looking forward to meeting each of you and discussing your marketing and events enquiries.

The PCW Hill Climb Challenge was held on Friday the 18th December 2015 and once again, we set out to find the fastest team member. Each individual has to run from the workshop up to the Level 2 (rooftop), via the ramp.

Last year’s record of 20.01 seconds, set by Ben Drew, has been smashed by young Josh in Service.

Josh set an impressive time of 19.11 seconds on his second run up the hill, after some technical issues on his first run.

Well done Josh and thank you to all those that competed.

Bring on 2016!

If your Porsche is optioned with the Sports Chrono Package (indicated by the presence of a stop watch/

clock on your dashboard) you have access to the Launch Control function. Launch Control allows you to achieve

the maximum rate of acceleration from a standing start, which in most models corresponds to a 0.2 second

reduction in your 0-100km/h time. Given the intense rate of acceleration, Launch Control should only be used on

race circuits or if road and traffic conditions permit.
