Ezekiel 34:11-12,15-17

God himself will shepherd the people of Israel.

Today’s Gospel passage is the conclusion of Jesus’

discourse with his disciples. It is about the end of time, the

coming of the Son of Man, and the final judgment. We hear

this description of the final judgment at the conclusion of our

liturgical year, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the

King. In the context of Matthew’s Gospel, this passage might

also be read as a conclusion of Matthew’s report on Jesus’

life and ministry; the remaining chapters report the events of

Jesus’ Passion and Resurrection.

FROM THE BISHOP INASMUCH AS HEALTH OFFICIALS have noted a recent increase in COVID-19 cases in this region, and health care facilities have raised concerns about their ability to

provide adequately for those afflicted with this virus and its complications, again taking into account the gravity of the law from which dispensation is given (can. 90 §§1, 2) and considering anew the spiritual good of the people of God entrusted to my care (can. 87 §1), I decree that the faithful of the Diocese of Lansing are dispensed from the obligation to attend Holy Mass on Sundays and other Holy Days of Obligation until Tuesday, February 16, 2021, preceding the liturgical season of Lent. As previously provided, the faithful are reminded that while the Sunday obligation to attend Mass is dispensed, all are nevertheless obligated to keep the Lord’s day holy (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2168-2195). It is especially recommended to engage in prayer, either personally or as a family (cf, can. 1248 §2), for example, by devoutly following a broadcast of the Sunday Mass by television, internet, or radio. In Response to the Current Public Health Order by MDHHS, through December 8 the Diocese of Lansing has stated:

Public Masses: As in the past, all orders remain subject to constitutional protections, such as the free exercise of religion. In recognition of this, the new MDHHS order again includes an exemption from penalty for religious worship. Bishop Boyea has confirmed that public Masses – and sacraments and devotions – will continue under the present liturgical guidelines which accord with the highest standards of public health and hygiene relating to COVID-19. While remaining ever vigilant, it is worth noting that since the introduction of the guidelines in May there have been no known outbreaks of COVID-19 in any Diocese of Lansing parish. Deo gratias.

Non-liturgical public gatherings: Unlike past orders, which had allowed for various indoor gatherings subject to capacity limits, the new orders completely ban all non-residential indoor gatherings. Residential gatherings are limited to 10 persons, and no more than 2 households. In light of these new restrictions, parish halls will be closed and all parish gatherings prohibited. St Augustine The Giving Tree is up. A number of families have been adopted and, so far, we don’t have as many families signed up as last year. That being said, I registered three new families this week. With the latest “Shut Down” I will probably get more calls. I appreciate all the people who have called to adopt a family, donate, or get gift tags, for their kindness and generosity. I know that this parish will not let those in need go without Christmas. If you take a tag from the tree, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ATTACH IT TO THE PRESENT WHEN YOU RETURN IT. Since we have a large number of teens, this year, many of the tags ask for gift cards. Please attach the tag to the gift card or place in an envelope and put it in the gold basket on the round table at the entrance to the hall. I will get it to the family making the delivery and this keeps the cards from getting lost in the abundance under the tree. There are extra envelopes next to the basket for donations. PLEASE MAKE CHECKS OUT TO ST. AUGUSTINE SVDP WITH ”GIVING TREE” IN THE MEMO SECTION. You can still mail donations to me at 10475Runyan Lake Point, Fenton, MI

48430. Donations of food cards work best from Meijer or Walmart and gas cards from Speedway. There are also envelopes for nativities and food & gas cards on the tree. While we are hoping that most gifts are returned by December 13, the food baskets will not be ready until December 19 and that is the absolute deadline for gift returns. Livingston County Catholic Charities Senior Care Drive

One weekend remains for our annual non-perishable food and cleaning products drive for Livingston County Catholic Charities seniors. Items Needed: Laundry Soap, Hand Soap, Cleaning Supplies

Granola Bars, Cereal, Fruit Cups. Ready to heat Canned Meals (Ravioli, Chili, Beef-aroni, etc.) Gleaners will be providing typical holiday fare.

The drive will last the month of November and we will be delivering the food after 10:30 am Mass December 1. If you would like to make a monetary donation for perishable food items put the check in the collection basket and make it out to St. Augustine, with “LCCC Food Drive” in the memo section .

We are currently engaged with ONE additional Pregnancy Resource Center, Life Choices of Central Michigan (Portable Unit) and looking for more. None of this would be possible without your generous donations, thank you for your continued support. Also, during this month of November (Holy Souls in Purgatory) that all of us need to keep all the souls, including those aborted babies in our prayers. But God didn’t come to reveal himself to us on a pedestal, he came to enter into our messy human condition. To fix us from within. To transform us from the inside out. Some might be surprised by how generous the love of God really is. We don’t deserve God’s love, but that’s the amazing reality of God’s mercy.
