The Senior Secondary system has already been running for some time already. Besides core subjects, students are also required to take elective subjects in the HKDSE. Crucially, it will decide your future pathways. With the selection of electives in Secondary 3, it also marks the beginning of preparation for the HKDSE.

It is understandable that parents and students are in dilemma at this time. You may be feeling somewhat anguished, fearful and ambivalent. Choosing the most suitable electives among more than 10 options, plus having to deal with four core subjects and numerous extra-curricular activities in the coming year can feel overwhelming.

While deciding which electives to take, there are some important things you should bear in mind, namely your interests, future career, ability and time. Of course, it is also important that you know about the electives you are about to take up. What future career do you prefer? Do you have the ability? Are you sure what you are good at, and what your weaknesses are? If you plan to take up extra subjects, such as Music, Visual Arts or other languages, do you think you can manage your time effectively?

There are also many things you should know during your considerations, such as how the Senior Secondary curriculum works, the mode of HKDSE and different Universities requirements. We are providing you with as much information as possible in this publication. We will have introductions on the curriculum and university options, as well as interviews of our senior schoolmates to share their experiences to give parents and students a better comprehension of the curriculum.

I would like to take this chance to thank my teacher advisors and career counsellors, as well as all interviewees for all their effort in the preparation of this publication. I would also like to thank Hok Yau Club for providing some vital information to us.

Finally, I wish you all the best in the coming years and able to take up your favorable electives. I also hope you will enjoy our publication, and make a correct choice.
