There will be another church work day on Saturday, May 30th
to hopefully finish up the projects that remain from our first
work day. Bring any tools or equipment you may have: hedge
trimmers, clippers, pressure washers, etc. for outside; cleaning
supplies for the inside. We will begin at 8:30 am. We need
men, women and youth to help and any amount of time will
be a blessing! Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 8:30 a.m.

In the motion picture, God’s Outlaw, about the life of William Tyndale, Tyndale stands before the
Roman Catholic tribunal to give an account to them for several charges of heresy. The following
exchange takes place.
The Judge: Would you say, then, that faith alone justifies: and not works.
Tyndale: The fruit that grows on the tree does not make the tree good or bad. It only
makes known whether the tree is a good tree or bad tree. Works do not make a
man good or bad. They only make it plain to other men whether he who performs
those works is good or bad. A man is reconciled before God by faith alone; and
works serve only to make this justification known before men. Such is the conten-
tion of the Apostle Paul. As it is written: “By grace are you saved, through faith,
and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should
boast.”
Tyndale was condemned as a heretic for such an answer and burned at the stake.
An easy way to remember his point is this: True roots produce true fruits. Man is made right before
God NOT by man’s own works (fruits). Rather, man is made right before God by Christ’s
works. We must simply believe, by faith, that Christ’s perfect works have been applied to our
lives.
Jesus illustrates this. In Mark 11, He curses a fig tree. The fig tree looked good from afar . . .
but it was far from good. Likewise, many people today can muster some good works to be seen
of man, but their roots are rotten. Jesus gave another vivid illustration in Mark 11. He walked
to the temple. The temple also looked good from afar . . . but it was far from good. It was bus-
tling with people on the outside. On the inside, though, it was sickening: people were using it for
their own glory rather than for the glory of God. It was corrupt on the inside.
Throughout Mark’s Gospel, Jesus has been targeting a specific problem: the people thought their
works made them right before God. Jesus keeps pressing them, chapter after chapter: God’s
concern is with the heart. If the heart is pure, the fruit will be pure.
Many people today look good from afar . . . but they are far from good. Tyndale was right. He
had a clear understanding of Jesus’ message. Paul codified that message in a sentence:
By grace are you saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God; not of works, lest
any man should boast.
True roots produce true fruits,
Pastor Chip

Psalm 59: 16 - But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
For You have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. A commentary I read said:
“Many of us don’t have good singing voices, so why should singing play such a prominent role in spiritual
growth? The act of singing tends to unite emotions and intellect – and God wants to commune with
every part of us.”
Thank you church family for allowing me to serve God here fourteen years now in June as your minister
of music and education. God has truly blessed me and I appreciate all of the love and support show to
me all these years. May God continue to guide and direct us all in our future.

Children’s Ministry
On Sunday mornings, the Children's Ministry has continued to study 'Leadership'. We are learning to only follow Godly leadership. We should not necessarily follow a leader because he/she is family; nice looking;
or a leader who ignites fear to gain followers. We must always consider whether or not the leader is hon-
oring God with their agenda and leadership.....if we desire to go to the West Coast, but we wake up every
morning with the sun in our eyes, then we need to alter our direction! Therefore, if the Leader is leading
in the wrong direction, we must not continue to follow.
Wednesday night Children's Worship begins at 6:30 in the FLC. The children worship God through praise
songs and prayer; learn about Him in small group Bible Study; then fellowship in the gym. If your child
has/have not attended yet, he/she may join us any Wednesday night. We will have a 'game night' on May
27th at 6:30 in the FLC.
Beginning on Wednesday night, June 10th, the children will begin a study entitled, 'Why We Believe What
We Believe,' led by Doctor McCleney. This Bible study will be in the FLC at 6:30 during adult worship.
The fifth and sixth graders are invited to join with the youth, in the Youth House, for Worship on any
Wednesday night at 6:30; this is optional.
A few months ago, the fifth and sixth graders were given a mission project from Doc. The children were
given a little money and expected to use that money to earn more money to donate to a Samaritan's Purse
project. The children who participated and turned in their summary may (with parental permission) attend
a party at Del Sol on Wednesday night, May 27th, at 6:30 with Doc.
A Children's Sunday night Bible Study and Fellowship will begin meeting regularly during the summer on
June 7th at 6:00p.m, in the FLC. There may be a few 'Mission' studies mixed in, courtesy of Jack and
Lynn Kinnison.
CENTRIKID KIDSCAMP SIGN-UP IS NOW.....The deadline for a guaranteed spot has past; however, you
may still add your child if Centrikid has space; just see me. The date for camp is June 29-July 3, 2015. The
total cost per child is $337.00.... The child must have finished 3rd grade to attend (camp rule, not mine).
There will be a parent meeting regarding camp on Wednesday night, June 10th, at 6:00P.M. in the FLC. I
plan to give parents the camp paperwork and discuss logistics at that time. If your child has roommate re-
quests, please give them to me at that time; I will try to accommodate their (or your) requests.
Our ongoing mission project is 'change for Alabama Baptist Children's Homes.' A 'Lighthouse' bank for the
children or adults to put their extra change into is in the FLC; money collected in this bank will benefit the
Alabama Baptist Children's Homes. Our Lighthouse has been donated to another church for the month of
March/April, but it will return in very soon:)
Family worship will be Sunday, June 28th.
"Rejoice always, pray continuously, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ
Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

I am looking for a volunteer to work with the toddlers on Sunday
nights. Working with this group of children is fun and a blessing. If you
feel lead to this ministry, please contact Lee Ann Dunn at twinoaks-
[email protected] or 205-410-9215 (cell) or 205-467-2543 (home).
And Jesus took a child an put him in the midst of them,
and taking him in his arms, he said to them,
“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me,
and whoever receives me,
receives not me but him who sent me.”
When you welcome a child in the name of Jesus you welcome Jesus
himself. When we minister to children – God is with us. If you
wonder why so many people are blessed by serving in the church
nursery. Now you know – God is there
I thank the FBCS church
family for allowing me
the opportunity to work
with this ministry.
