Grammar- students will recognize that book titles require capital letters. Students will also learn more about punctuation marks (? & .) and they will learn to use the modal verb “can” to talk about things they can do. Present tense and subject verb agreement will also be taught in grammar lessons. RC – In this unit we will touch on the contents and index pages, captions, headings and glossaries in an information text. Teachers will also ensure that students can extract information from a non- fiction text. Report writing will be the focus for the writing tasks.

GINGERBREAD HOUSE ACTIVITY

The English teachers have a traditional Gingerbread house making activity that the P1’s do every year. We do our own YYPS version of this and we will need your help. You can imagine this to be a very fun but sticky day LOL! We will need parents that will be able to help us out on that day. 本校的中文科以普通話作為教學語言，也是全校唯一用中文學習的科目。中文科有兩個不同的課程，除了常規的課程外，還有專給外籍學生學習的中文課程。我們每年都會

在春節前夕舉行「中文日」，除了和學生玩一些跟中國文化

有關的攤位遊戲外，還提供了一些傳統的中國食物讓學生品

嚐，當然也少不了寫寫揮春，賀賀新年了！老師和學生都樂

在其中⋯⋯

在老師與學生的共同努力下，學生在粵語／普通話集誦、個人朗誦（普通話）、寫作、戲劇各方面也取得了不少

佳績。

每年我們均會組織戶外活動讓外籍學生參與，藉此讓他們走出課室，多認識香港，同時邀請部分讀常規課程的學生

當他們的「小老師」，這樣除了增進學生之間的感情，也提

高了外籍學生說中文、用中文的機會。

Language Arts is a core-curriculum subject taught at YYPS. Our overall objective is to teach all areas of English by providing a rich English language environment for the students to learn in. We cover grammar, reading, speaking, listening, writing and drama skills throughout the year during our lessons. We use a wide variety of teaching methods to keep the students engaged and promote deep learning through interactive task-based lessons.

Our school a ims to provide students wi th a fun environment to learn Maths. We have been using games for many years instead of textbooks. Every year, our department organizes either a Maths Day or a Maths Month to maintain students' interest in Maths.

To further develop advanced students, a group of P5 and P6 students is chosen to join the Olympiad Maths class every year and those students also participate in Olympiad Maths competitions. For senior grades, we promote self-learning through the use of Google Classroom.

本科旨在培養學生成為有自信、理性及有責任心的人。透過不同教學活動及考察，我們希望學生能夠認清作為家庭及社會一份子的角色及

責任。我們亦希望培養學生對於大自然及科技發展的興趣，並明白科學

及科技對社會的影響。

透過六年的常識教育，我們期望學生能學習學科知識、提升共通能力、認識正面價值觀及態度。我們的課程涵蓋六大範疇︰健康生

活，環境與人類，科學及科技，社會及人民，國民身份及中國文化，

資訊新紀元。

近年STEM成為教育發展的新趨勢，同時也是未來社會發展的重心之一。校方深信STEM能夠培養學生的自學能力及科創思維。為配合學習需要，本校特意斥資數十萬元，改裝其中一間電腦室為STEM室, 並購置不同的教材。 從19/20學年開始，本校把STEM抽出獨立成科，讓學生能夠更有效掌握STEM知識。學校期望學生能夠把所有知識融會貫通，又會鼓勵他們自由學習，鑽研有興趣的科目。

我們提倡學生在愉快的環境中學習數學，所以我們一直以遊戲教學代替教科書。本科每年會舉辦

數學日或數學月以提高學生對數學科的興趣。

為提高學生數學水平，每年我們會選一些小五及小六的學生參加奧數班及奧數比賽。近年，高年

級會用Google Classroom 作為自主學習的工具。

The GS curriculum aims to help students maintain a healthy personal development and become confident, rational and responsible citizens. Through different activities, field trips and projects, students learn their roles and responsibilities as members of their family and society. Also, they develop curiosity and interest in the natural and technological world as well as an understanding of the impact of science and technology on society.

From P1 to P6, students learn objectives for the development in students' subject knowledge, generic skills, positive values and attitudes under the following six strands: health and living, people and environment, science and technology in everyday life, community and citizenship, national identity and Chinese culture, and global understanding and the information era.

In recent years, STEM has become a major focus in education. To develop student's innovative thinking and self-learning ability through STEM, our school spent a few hundred thousand dollars to change one of the computer rooms into a STEM room and purchased various STEM teaching materials. We will also make STEM a separate subject offered starting from school year 2019/20.

The school building comprises six storeys and includes 24 standard classrooms and other well-equipped rooms for arts ands craft, computer studies, STEM, language studies, remedial teaching, conferences and interviews. Other facilities include a well-stocked library, multi-purpose room and indoor playground.

Our new Angela Leong On Kei Swimming Pool Complex provides a basketball court, a swimming pool with 5 lanes and another cover playground. For water safety, we are the first primary school in Hong Kong that installed the Poseidon System in our swimming pool. The system helps lifeguards to detect swimmers in trouble.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the school, assisted by 200 iPads, so mobile-learning can be incorporated into our curriculum.

Most of our students are admitted to EMI secondary school.本校大部份畢業生都能升讀英文中學。

The parent-teacher association was established in 2007. The association’s committee was formed by teachers and parents. The aims are to let the teachers, parents and the students build a caring bridge between staff and, parents and students and get to know each other better through different kinds of activities. The association also provides advice to the school and assists it in developing the best teaching environment and improving the quality of teaching at YYPS.
