Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

First of all, I would like to thank you for welcoming me and my family to your wonderful church community. I have been serving The Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox community a few weeks only and most likely we have not met yet but, I am certainly looking for-ward to meeting and talking with you soon.

As you know, I was assigned by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston to serve this beautiful community during Great Lent. The timing could not be more perfect because as, I said, in one of my sermons in the church, I was able to join you in a journey that our Lord calls every one of us to travel. Each one of us walks this challenging but sweet road accord-ing to our abilities and spiritual needs and I hope and pray that your jour-ney was and is a fruitful one. Not only the journey of Great Lent but the journey of life is a journey of the cross. Each and every one of us has our own cross that we carry in response to the call that we heard from our Lord at one point in our life.

We all have different ways of carrying our crosses, we each have our own unique challenges but, if we sum it up, in one short sentence the way of the CROSS is the way of LOVE. In our Orthodox Christian culture and heritage, which comes all the way from the apostles of our Lord, Love is the equivalent of the Cross.

The cross is a heavy burden but at the same time it is sweet, if we car-ry it with Love. The good news about this heavy but sweet burden also is that we do not have to carry it alone. First, we have the promise of our Lord: continue pg. 4

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I

will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from

me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest

for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

(Matthew 11:28-30)

Also we have the advice of the greatest apostle of all time, Saint Paul, who calls us, saying: “2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ”. (Galatians 6:2)

The Church, dear brothers and sisters is not a random gathering of likeminded club members. Many

out in the world may think that way and try to convince us that the church is another religious organ-

ization but even that is not the fullness of the truth, because the church for us Christians is the body

of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and we are “members of Christ himself” (1 Corinthians

6:15).

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s

people and also members of his household” says Saint Paul in his letter to the Ephesians

(2:19).

Being grafted on this new vine we all are members of the Body of our Lord and we all are in the pro-

cess of adapting to this new reality that is a life’s journey. This awesome process of transformation is

not always the easiest thing. Transformation however is what makes us human. It is the transfor-

mation that keeps us alive.

Someone came to Christ with an excuse not to follow Him but He said to this man: “Follow

me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” (Matt. 8-22) He also said to the Samaritan woman:

“whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them

will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4-14)

So, dear friends, that is the road that we are walking. The road that takes us to the spring of the wa-

ter that gives life and enlivens our souls and our hearts.

Thank you again for welcoming me and my family to join you at this awesome time when our Lord

will show us on His own example that “unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it

remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit”. (John 12:24)

Let us equate the Cross to Love, so that we also can say that our Love is the love of the one who

lays down his or her life for a friend, otherwise, we will be like clinging symbols because Like Saint

Paul says “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a

ringing gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mys-

teries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith, so as to move mountains, but have

not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my

Αγαπητοί αδελφοί και αδελφές εν Χριστώ,

Πρώτα απ 'όλα, θα ήθελα να σας ευχαριστήσω για την υποδοχή μου

και της οικογένειας μου στην υπέροχη εκκλησιαστική σας κοινότητα.

Υπηρετώ την Ελληνική Ορθόδοξη κοινότητα της Κοίμησης της Θεοτόκου

λίγες μόνο εβδομάδες και πιθανότατα δεν έχουμε συναντηθεί ακόμα, αλλά

αναμένω σίγουρα να συναντηθώ και να μιλήσω μαζί σας σύντομα.

Όπως γνωρίζετε, ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης της Βοστόνης

Μεθόδιος μου ανέθεσε να υπηρετήσω αυτήν την όμορφη κοινότητα κατά

τη Μεγάλη Σαρακοστή. Ο χρόνος δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι ποτέ πιο

τέλειος επειδή όπως είπα σε ένα από τα κηρύγματά μου στην εκκλησία,

ήμουν σε θέση να έρθω μαζί σας σε ένα ταξίδι που ο Κύριος μας καλεί

όλους μας να ταξιδέψουμε. Κάθε ένας από μας περπατάει σε αυτόν τον δύσκολο αλλά γλυκό δρόμο

σύμφωνα με τις ικανότητες και τις πνευματικές μας ανάγκες και ελπίζω και προσεύχομαι ότι το ταξίδι

σας ήταν και είναι γόνιμο.

Όχι μόνο το ταξίδι της Μεγάλης Σαρακοστής, αλλά το ταξίδι της ζωής είναι ένα ταξίδι του σταυρού. Ο

καθένας από εμάς έχει τον δικό μας σταυρό που φέρνουμε ως απάντηση στο κάλεσμα που ακούσαμε

από τον Κύριό μας σε ένα σημείο της ζωής μας.

Όλοι έχουμε διαφορετικούς τρόπους να φροντίσουμε τους σταυρούς μας, έχουμε τις δικές μας

μοναδικές προκλήσεις, αλλά αν το συνοψίσουμε σε μια σύντομη πρόταση, ο τρόπος του ΣΤΑΥΡΟΥ

είναι ο τρόπος της ΑΓΑΠΗΣ. Στoν Ορθόδοξo Χριστιανικό πολιτισμό και κληρονομιά που έρχεται σε όλη

τη διαδρομή από τους αποστόλους του Κυρίου μας, η Αγάπη είναι το ισοδύναμο του Σταυρού.

”Ἐλᾶτε σ᾽ ἐμὲ ὅλοι ἐσεῖς, ποὺ εἶσθε κουρασμένοι καὶ φορτωμένοι, καὶ ἐγὼ θὰ σᾶς δώσω

ἀνάπαυσιν. Σηκῶστε ἐπάνω σας τὸν ζυγόν μου καὶ μάθετε ἀπὸ ἐμέ, ὅτι εἶμαι πρᾶος καὶ ταπεινὸς στὴν

καρδιὰ καὶ θὰ βρῆτε ἀνάπαυσιν στὶς ψυχές σας. Ὁ ζυγός μου εἶναι ἁπαλὸς καὶ τὸ φορτίον μου

ἐλαφρόν”. (Ματθαίος 11: 28-30)

Επίσης, έχουμε τη συμβουλή του μεγαλύτερου αποστόλου όλων των εποχών, του Αγίου Παύλου που

λέει ότι λέει: “Ὁ καθένας νὰ βαστάζῃ τὰ βάρη τοῦ ἄλλου, καὶ κατ᾽ αὐτὸν τὸν τρόπον θὰ ἐκπληρώσετε

τὸν νόμον τοῦ Χριστοῦ”. (Γαλάτες 6:2)

body, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it

does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,

it keeps no account of wrongs. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices in the truth. It

bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails”. (1 Corinth. 13 )

Η Εκκλησία, αγαπητοί αδελφοί και αδελφές, δεν είναι μια τυχαία συλλογή ομοειδών μελών του

συλλόγου. Πολλοί από τον κόσμο μπορούν να σκεφτούν με αυτόν τον τρόπο και να προσπαθήσουν να

μας πείσουν ότι η εκκλησία είναι μια άλλη θρησκευτική οργάνωση, αλλά ακόμα δεν είναι η πληρότητα

της αλήθειας, επειδή η εκκλησία για εμάς τους Χριστιανούς είναι το σώμα του Κυρίου και σωτήρα μας

Ιησού Χριστού και εμείς είμαστε “μέλη τοῦ Χριστοῦ;” (1 Κορινθίους 6:15).

”Ὥστε λοιπόν, δὲν εἶσθε πλέον ξένοι καὶ παρεπίδημοι, ἀλλὰ συμπολῖται τῶν ἁγίων καὶ οἰκεῖοι τοῦ

Θεοῦ,” λέει ο Άγιος Παύλος στην επιστολή του προς τους Εφεσίους (2:19).

Κάποιος ήλθε στον Χριστό με την δικαιολογία να μην τον ακολουθήσει, αλλά είπε στον άνθρωπο:

«Ἀκολούθησέ με καὶ ἄφησε τοὺς νεκροὺς νὰ θάψουν τοὺς δικούς των νεκρούς». (Ματθαίος 8-22)

Επίσης, είπε στη Σαμαρείτισα: «ἐκεῖνος ὅμως ποὺ θὰ πιῇ ἀπὸ τὸ νερὸ ποὺ ἐγὼ θὰ τοῦ δώσω, θὰ γίνῃ

μιὰ ἐσωτερικὴ πηγὴ νεροῦ ποὺ θὰ ἀναβρύῃ εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον». (Ιωάννης 4-14)

Σας ευχαριστώ και πάλι που καλωσορίζετε εμένα και την οικογένειά μου να ενωθούμε μαζί σας σε

αυτή την εκπληκτική εποχή, όταν ο Κύριος μας θα μας δείξει με το δικό του παράδειγμα ότι ”Ἀλήθεια,

ἀλήθεια σᾶς λέγω, ἐὰν ὁ σπόρος τοῦ σιταριοῦ δὲν πέσῃ εἰς τὴν γῆν καὶ πεθάνῃ, μένει αὐτὸς μόνος,

ἐὰν ὅμως πεθάνῃ, φέρει πολὺν καρπόν”. (Ιωάννης 12:24)

Ας εξισώσουμε τον Σταυρό με την Αγάπη, ώστε να μπορούμε επίσης να πούμε ότι η Αγάπη μας είναι η

αγάπη εκείνου που καθορίζει τη ζωή του για έναν φίλο αλλιώς θα είμαστε σαν tα προσκολλούντα

σύμβολα γιατί οπως λέει ο Άγιος Παύλος “Ἐὰν μιλῶ τὰς γλώσσας τῶν ἀνθρώπων καὶ τῶν ἀγγέλων,

ἀλλὰ δὲν ἔχω ἀγάπην, ἔγινα χαλκὸς ποὺ δίνει ἤχους ἢ κύμβαλον ποὺ βγάζει κρότους. Καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω

χάρισμα προφητείας καὶ γνωρίζω ὅλα τὰ μυστήρια καὶ ὅλην τὴν γνῶσιν, καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω ὅλην τὴν πίστιν,

ὥστε νὰ μεταθέτω βουνά, ἀλλὰ δὲν ἔχω ἀγάπην, δὲν εἶμαι τίποτε. Καὶ ἐὰν μοιράσω σὲ ἐλεημοσύνες

ὅλην μου τὴν περιουσίαν, καὶ ἐὰν παραδώσω τὸ σῶμά μου διὰ νὰ καῇ, ἀλλὰ δὲν ἔχω ἀγάπην, καμμίαν

ὠφέλειαν δὲν ἔχω. Ἡ ἀγάπη εἶναι μακρόθυμη, εἶναι γεμάτη ἀπὸ εὐμένειαν, ἡ ἀγάπη δὲν εἶναι

ζηλότυπη, ἡ ἀγάπη δὲν καυχᾶται, δὲν εἶναι ὑπερήφανη, δὲν κάνει ἀσχημίες, δὲν ζητεῖ τὸ συμφέρον

της, δὲν ἐρεθίζεται, δὲν λογαριάζει τὸ κακόν, 6δὲν χαίρει διὰ τὸ κακόν, ἀλλά συγχαίρει εἰς τὴν

ἀλήθειαν, ὅλα τὰ ἀνέχεται, ὅλα τὰ πιστεύει, ἐλπίζει γιὰ τὸ κάθε τι, ὑπομένει τὸ κάθε τι.

Ἡ ἀγάπη ποτὲ δὲν θὰ παύσῃ νὰ ὑπάρχῃ.

PRESIDENTS REPORT ...

V OLU ME 1, ISS UE 1

Dear Dormition Parishioners, Family & Friends,

On January 13th, 2019, I was both humbled and honored, that the Parish Council placed their confidence and support in me when they elected me, as our Dormition Church’s Parish Council Presi-dent. Its 1st woman president in its 103 year in history.

I feel blessed as I begin this New Year and I assure you that I will always act with honesty and adhere to the highest standards of moral and ethical values. I have grown up in this church and con-sider it my second home. I have invested and will continue to invest tremendous amounts of commit-ment. I intend to be the best President!

My first 3 months as President have been extremely busy. Shortly after we rang in the New Year, the Metropolitan informed us that Father Konstantinos would be transferred to our sister parish St. Nectarios of Roslindale. Saying farewell to Father Konstantinos was not an easy task, to say good bye, to someone who has been with us for the past 7 years. As the saying goes, when one door clos-es a new one opens. God has blessed us with Father Anthony and his lovely family. We are very ex-cited that His Eminence assigned him to us. We wish him many blessings as he continues his ministry here at our Dormition Church.

I look forward to working with Fr. Anthony, as we analyze each ministry to see how we can make them much better than what they are now. I look forward to hearing more about his ideas as to how we can improve our youth programs. Our youth is the future of our church. Hearing that he revitalized the GOYA in our sister parish, St. Vasilios in Peabody was music in my ears. He has al-ready started planning various activities for our children.

We have a critical year ahead of us. Our Real Estate and Development “RED” ministry is in full force with the beginning stages to renovate our deteriorating buildings. We will be hearing very short-ly from our architects the rough cost-estimates. Therefore, we need to start thinking of ways to fund-raise for this critical task. Our finance ministry at the same time is reviewing and monitoring the ex-penditures to see where we can improve on less spending, so we can save some of our hard-earned money that comes from our real estate activities, such as the parking lot lease and 7 Central rental revenues. We started by reaching out to a company that does energy-audits and they came out and evaluated our buildings. They changed all the light bulbs to LED free of charge. This will save us a few bucks on an annual basis. Shortly, we will also bid out our insurance policies to get better quotes and save more money. Dear all, despite what many of you are thinking, our festival and parking lot revenue, is a great help but not enough to sustain this church. We all need to start thinking of differ-ent ways, we can help our church.

One easy way for each and every one of us to start doing immediately, is putting away $2 a day and not buying that extra cup of coffee, at the end of the month you will have an extra $60, at the end of the year, you will have $720. Don’t you think that our church and God is worth $2 a day? I think he is worth much more, but $2 a day is a great start. We can all afford that.

We need to slowly introduce stewardship to our Parish and we will by 2020. We will be bring-ing in different speakers to slowly teach our parishioners how important it is to move to steward-ship. Otherwise, we will not be able to survive for the next 50 years. Our annual membership dues barely cover just our utilities, what about the rest of our expenses?

If you think that our Dormition Church is not ready for stewardship for x, y and z reasons, then I need to hear your ideas as to how we can keep the doors open. The pain is real! This church

cannot survive on what we charge for membership dues.

Our membership is struggling to grow but at least it’s growing. We need to create an ambitious out-reach ministry team, which will come up with creative ideas as to how we can reach out to people and try and fill our church once again, to its capacity and beyond and keep them interested with vari-ous activities and programs.

Another way, that I believe we can get the word out, is by introducing live web-cast of our lit-urgies for people, who for one reason or another cannot attend our church on a regular basis. This will also hopefully start to introduce our church to others and eventually, they will become stewards of our community. Furthermore, we need to be more active in social media. We need to constantly be posting on our Facebook page of everything that is happening in our community and eventually, ALL will see the great things that our Dormition church has to offer. Our website needs to be fre-quently updated with the latest news. Out-dated news gives the perception of a dying community.

We are so thankful that Fr Anthony has so much more experience when it comes to webcast-ing and social media. He has already started to create a new and improved website, the first week he was here. Please take a look at our new and improved website at www.dormitionchurch.org. An-other thing we are in the process of offering to people is the convenience of making on-line donations and stewardship payments via our website.

Speaking of outdated material. Our by-laws have not been updated since the 1970’s. Very shortly, we will have updated by-laws, once and for all and they will be kept up to date!

As you can see, there is a lot that needs to be done. Our Parish Council members, all have their talents. Each and every one of them has a skill or talent that can help our church. I, along with Father Anthony will work together with the entire Parish Council, so we can help the church in the best way that we can. Teamwork can turn a vision into reality. Together, we will conquer the world.

For those few of you, and you know who you are, that feel our church is being torn in every direction, please STOP looking in the past and focus toward the future. We have a new Priest and a new President, holding on to the past, will destroy the future. Let’s all turn the page and move for-ward, so we can all move forward. Remember this is a team effort! Team effort is the entire Parish and not just the Parish Council.

Lastly, I want to express my thanks and gratitude to our out-going President, Vangelis Ke-chris. One of the hardest working people, that I have come to know. Vangeli provided this church with great sound leadership and I am so great-full that he remains on the executive board as our 1st Vice President and will continue to work hard to meet the challenges that lie ahead of us. I also want to thank all that have reached out to me, to offer their help, with whatever I need to make my presidency easier. I am very grateful to the tremendous outpouring. Again, I thank Father Anthony and all of you, but mostly I thank God. It is with him that I will contin-ue to serve this Parish. Kali Anastasi! Αγαπητοί Eνορίτες, Οικογένεια και Φίλοι,

Στις 13 Ιανουαρίου 2019, ήμουν τόσο ταπεινή και τιμημένη, που το Ενοριακό Συμβούλιο έβαλε την εμπιστοσύνη και την υποστήριξή τους σε μένα όταν με επέλεξε πρόεδρο του Ενοριακού Συμβουλίου της Εκκλησίας της Κοίμησης. Η πρώτη γυναίκα πρόεδρος στα 103 χρόνια ιστορίας της. Νιώθω ευλογημένη καθώς ξεκινώ αυτό το Νέο Έτος και σας διαβεβαιώνω ότι πάντα θα ενεργώ με ειλικρίνεια και θα τηρήσω τα υψηλότερα πρότυπα των ηθικών αξιών. Έχω μεγαλώσει σε αυτήν την εκκλησία και την θεωρώ το δεύτερο σπίτι μου. Έχω επενδύσει και θα συνεχίσω να επενδύω τεράστια ποσά υποχρέωσης. Σκοπεύω να είμαι η καλύτερη Πρόεδρος!

Οι πρώτοι 3 μήνες μου ως Πρόεδρος ήταν εξαιρετικά απασχολημένοι. Λίγο μετά το Νέο Έτος, ο Σεβασμιώτατος Μητροπολίτης μας ενημέρωσε ότι ο πατέρας Κωνσταντίνος θα μεταφερθεί στην αδελφική μας ενορία του Αγίου Νεκταρίου στο Roslindale. Αποχαιρετώντας τον πατέρα Κωνσταντίνο δεν ήταν εύκολο να πούμε αντίο, σε κάποιον που ήταν μαζί μας τα τελευταία 7 χρόνια. Όπως λέει η παροιμία, όταν κλείνεται μια πόρτα ανοίγεται μια νέα. Ο Θεός μας ευλόγησε με τον πατέρα Aντώνιο και την όμορφη οικογένειά του. Είμαστε πολύ ενθουσιασμένοι που ο Σεβασμιώτατος τον ανέθεσε σε μας. Του ευχόμαστε πολλές ευλογίες, καθώς συνεχίζει την διακονίαν του εδώ στην Εκκλησία μας της Κοίμησης.

Ανυπομονώ να συνεργαστώ με τον πατέρα Aντώνιο καθώς αναλύουμε κάθε διακονία για να δούμε πώς μπορούμε να τα κάνουμε πολύ καλύτερα από αυτά που είναι τώρα. Ανυπομονώ να ακούσω περισσότερα για τις ιδέες του σχετικά με το πώς μπορούμε να βελτιώσουμε τα προγράμματα για τη νεολαία μας. Η νεολαία μας είναι το μέλλον της εκκλησίας μας. Ακούγοντας ότι αναζωογόνησε την GOYA στην αδελφική μας ενορία, του Άγιου Βασιλείου στο Peabody ήταν μουσική στα αυτιά μου. Έχει ήδη ξεκινήσει να σχεδιάζει διάφορες δραστηριότητες για τα παιδιά μας.

Έχουμε ένα κρίσιμο έτος μπροστά μας. H Διακονία Ανάπτυξης Ακοινήτου Περιουσίας της εκκλησίας είναι σε πλήρη ισχύ με τα αρχικά στάδια να ανακαινίσει τα κατεστραμμένα κτίριά μας. Θα ακούσουμε πολύ σύντομα από τους αρχιτέκτονες μας τις ακαθάριστες εκτιμήσεις κόστους. Επομένως, πρέπει να αρχίσουμε να σκεφτόμαστε τρόπους χρηματοδότησης για αυτό το κρίσιμο έργο. Η Διακονία Οικονομικών ταυτόχρονα εξετάζει και παρακολουθεί τις δαπάνες για να δούμε πού μπορούμε να βελτιώσουμε την μείωση δαπανών ώστε να μπορέσουμε να εξοικονομήσουμε μερικά από τα δυσκόλως κερδισμένα χρήματά μας που προέρχονται από τις δραστηριότητες ακίνητης περιουσίας όπως η μίσθωση χώρων στάθμευσης και έσοδα από ενοίκια στο 7 Central. Αρχίσαμε απευθυνόμενοι σε μια εταιρεία που πραγματοποιεί ενεργειακούς ελέγχους και ηλθαν και αξιολόγησαν τα κτίριά μας. Έχουν αλλάξει όλες τις λάμπες με LED χωρίς χρέωση. Πρέπει να εισαγάγουμε σιγά σιγά την οικονομική επιστασία της Ενορίας μας και θα το φθάσουμε μέχρι το 2020. Θα φέρουμε διάφορους ομιλητές για να διδάξουμε σιγά-σιγά στους ενορίτες μας πόσο σημαντικό είναι να προχωρήσουμε στην οικονομική επιστασία. Διαφορετικά, δεν θα μπορέσουμε να επιβιώσουμε για τα επόμενα 50 χρόνια. Οι ετήσιες συνδρομές μας καλύπτουν μόνο τις υπηρεσίες κοινής ωφέλειας. Τι γίνεται με τα υπόλοιπα έξοδα μας;

Αν νομίζετε ότι η Εκκλησία της Κοίμησης μας δεν είναι έτοιμη για οικονομική επιστασία για διαφόρους λόγους, τότε πρέπει να ακούσω τις ιδέες σας για το πώς μπορούμε να διατηρήσουμε τις πόρτες ανοιχτές. Ο πόνος είναι πραγματικός! Αυτή η εκκλησία δεν μπορεί να επιβιώσει με τις συνδρομές που μαζέυουμε. Ο αριθμός των μελλών αυξάνεται πολύ δύσκολα, αλλά τουλάχιστον αυξάνουν. Πρέπει να δημιουργήσουμε μια φιλόδοξη Διακονία outreach που θα παρουσιάσει δημιουργικές ιδέες για το πώς μπορούμε να προσεγγίσουμε τους ανθρώπους και να προσπαθήσουμε να γεμίσουμε την εκκλησία μας και πάλι, στην χωρητικότητα της και πέραν αυτής, και να την ενδιέφερε με διάφορες δραστηριότητες και προγράμματα.

Ένας άλλος τρόπος, που πιστεύω ότι μπορούμε να μεταδόσουμε το μήνυμα, είναι η εισαγωγή ζωντανού διαδικτύου παρουσίασης των λειτουργιών μας για ανθρώπους που για τον έναν ή τον άλλο λόγο δεν μπορούν να παρευρεθούν κανονικά στην εκκλησία μας. Αυτό, επίσης, θα αρχίσει να παρουσιάσει την εκκλησία μας σε άλλους και τελικά αυτοί να γίνουν οικινομικοί επιστάτες της κοινότητας μας. Επιπλέον, πρέπει να είμαστε πιο ενεργοί στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης. Πρέπει να δημοσιεύουμε συνεχώς στη σελίδα μας στο Facebook όλα όσα συμβαίνουν στην κοινότητά μας και τελικά, όλοι θα δουν τα ωραία προγράμματα που μπορεί να προσφέρει η εκκλησία μας. Είμαστε πολύ ευγνώμονες που ο πατέρας Aντώνιο έχει πολύ περισσότερη εμπειρία όταν πρόκειται για webcasting και κοινωνικά μέσα. Έχει ήδη αρχίσει να δημιουργεί μια νέα και βελτιωμένη ιστοσελίδα, την πρώτη εβδομάδα που ήταν εδώ. Παρακαλώ ρίξτε μια ματιά στη νέα και βελτιωμένη ιστοσελίδα μας στο www.dormitionchurch.org. Ένα άλλο πράγμα που είμαστε στην προετοιμασία να σας προσφέρουμε είναι η ευκολία να κάνετε δωρεές μέσω διαδικτύου και πληρωμές διαχειριστικής υποστήριξης μέσω της ιστοσελίδας μας.

Μιλώντας για ξεπερασμένο υλικό. Οι κανονισμοί λειτουργίας της εκκλησιας μας δεν έχουν ενημερωθεί από τη δεκαετία του '70. Πολύ σύντομα, θα έχουμε ενημερωμένους κανονισμούς, μία για πάντα και θα ενημερώνονται τακτικά. Όπως μπορείτε να δείτε, υπάρχουν πολλά που πρέπει να γίνουν. Τα μέλη του Ενοριακού μας Συμβουλίου έχουν όλοι τα ταλέντα τους. Κάθε ένας από αυτούς έχει μια ικανότητα ή ταλέντο που μπορεί να βοηθήσει την εκκλησία μας. Εγώ, μαζί με τον πατέρα Aντώνιο θα συνεργαστούμε με ολόκληρο το Ενοριακό Συμβούλιο, ώστε να μπορούμε να βοηθήσουμε την εκκλησία με τον καλύτερο τρόπο που μπορούμε. Η ομαδική εργασία μπορεί να μετατρέψει ένα όραμα σε πραγματικότητα. Μαζί, θα κατακτήσουμε τον κόσμο.

Για τους λίγους από εσάς, και ξέρετε ποιοι είστε, που αισθάνεσθε ότι η εκκλησία μας είναι διχασμένη προς κάθε κατεύθυνση, παρακαλώ σταματήστε να κοιτάτε το παρελθόν και να εστιάσετε την προσοχή σας στο μέλλον. Έχουμε έναν νέο Ιερέα και μία νέα Πρόεδρο, κρατώντας το παρελθόν, θα καταστρέψουμε το μέλλον. Ας γυρίσουμε όλοι τη σελίδα και να προχωρήσουμε προς τα εμπρός, έτσι μπορούμε όλοι να προχωρήσουμε μπροστά. Θυμηθείτε αυτό είναι μια ομαδική προσπάθεια! Η ομαδική προσπάθεια είναι ολόκληρη η Ενορία και όχι μόνο το Ενοριακό Συμβούλιο.

Τέλος, θα ήθελα να εκφράσω τις ευχαριστίες και την ευγνωμοσύνη μου στον εξερχόμενο πρόεδρο, Βαγγέλη Κεχρή. Έναν απο τους πιο σκληρά


εργαζόμενους, που έχω γνωρίσει.. Ο Βαγγέλης παρείχε στην εκκλησία μεγάλη ηγεσία και είμαι πολυ ευγνώμων ότι παραμένει στο εκτελεστικό συμβούλιο ως ο 1ος Αντιπρόεδρος μας και θα συνεχίσει να εργάζεται σκληρά για να ανταποκριθεί στις προκλήσεις που βρίσκονται μπροστά μας.

Θέλω επίσης να ευχαριστήσω όλους όσους με πλησίασαν για να προσφέρουν τη βοήθειά τους, σε ό, τι χρειάζομαι για να διευκολύνω την προεδρία μου. Είμαι πολύ ευγνώμων για την τεράστια έκρηξη της υποστήριξης.

Και πάλι, ευχαριστώ τον πατέρα Aντώνιο και όλους εσάς, αλλά κυρίως ευχαριστώ τον Θεό. Είναι μαζί του ότι θα συνεχίσω να υπηρετώ αυτήν την ενορία.

PHILOPTOCHOS REPORT

Dear Parishioners,

The president and the members of our Philoptochos Board would

like to thank you all for your constant support to our efforts to help our

fellow citizens in need. Under the spiritual guidance of our most esteemed Fr. Anthony,

and our sister Presvytera Kellie, we continue our mission, in a very successful way.

During the Holy Lenten period, the ladies of our Board prepared the traditional

tsourekia, with great success, and with the restless contribution of our cooks, Stelios Sfi-

kas, Alekos Biliardis & Danny Kourafalos.

On May 11, we have our annual general assembly, Kokkino Avgo. Immediately af-

ter, we will be preparing our food and pastries for our festival in September.

The Family Table continues to offer hot meals to every citizen, in Somerville,

every first Wednesday of each month, in the lower hall of our church. Please join us to

help people, and share with us the joy of giving. Volunteer ladies cook, serve and clean

with the professional contribution of our cooks, Joanna Bressette, Mr. Sfikas, Mr. Biliardis

& Mr. Kourafalos! Our guests are very appreciative and thankful for the delicious and

beautifully served dinners!

Please consider joining our Philoptochos association, and continue to offer us your

love and support. You will be greatly appreciated by all of us, and especially by the nu-

merous unknown people who need us.

Στις 11 Μαΐου, θα έχουμε τη ετήσια γενική μας συνέλευση, το Κόκκινο Αυγό, και

αμέσως μετά θά ξεκινήσουμε την προετοιμασία φαγητών και γλυκών για το φεστιβάλ που

διοργανώνει η Ενορία μας τον Σεπτέμβριο.

Το Οικογενειακό Τραπέζι συνεχίζει να προσφέρει κάθε πρώτη Τετάρτη του μηνός,

μαγειρευμένα φαγητά, φτιαγμένα από τα χέρια των κυριών του συλλόγου μας, με την

φροντίδα, και την γνώση των αγαπημένων μας την Ιωάννα Bressette, Στέλιο Σφήκα,

Αλέκο Μπιλιαρδή και Διονύση Κουράφαλο.

Παρακαλούμε θερμά να ενωθείτε μαζί μας, για να μοιραστούμε μαζί την χαρά που

δίνουμε στους αναξιοπαθούντες συνανθρώπους μας.

Τελος, θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε όλους και όλες εσάς από καρδιάς που με την

In November, nominations and elections were held for the 2018-2019 PTO Committee. The 2018-2019 PTO Committee is pleased to announce that it is presently comprised of the following volunteer parents: Evi Kolovou (Secretary), Kate Makrigianni (Co-Chairperson), Angela Mamakos (Asst. Treasurer), John Stefanou (Treasurer) and Michael Ververis (Co-Chairperson). Please feel free to congratulate the new committee members who are committed to bringing our children together in Christ at our Sunday and Greek Schools.

The PTO Committee would like to thank and recognize Dionysios Kourafalos for preparing a delicious meal and to many of the Greek School parents for their tremendous assistance in organizing, preparing, and volunteering during the entire weekend of October 27-28, 2018 for the 78th Oxi Day Celebration.

We commend the Greek school director Mrs. Lagogiannis and teachers who prepared our Greek School children so well for the wonderful 2018 Oxi Day program. We also wish to recognize and thank all of the parents who assisted and/or made generous donations towards the Oxi Day Cele-bration Lunch, and Raffle.

We wish to congratulate the young Greek School superstars, the future of our parish in Christ, for their wonderful performances on Sunday, October 28, 2018. The children recited their lovely po-ems and songs in Greek. The students entertained the audience by dancing several Greek dances. Their families, our Nation, the Greek Nation, our Veterans are very proud of them.

On Wednesday, November 28, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. we held our annual Church wide Trim-A-Tree to decorate the Church and function halls. A complimentary dinner was provided by the PTO Committee for all the families.

On Saturday, December 1, 2018, at 7 p.m. many families met at the Shubert Theater in Bos-ton, MA to see on stage performance of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. Everyone was thrilled to see the show live.

On Saturday, December 8, 2018, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. the children gathered in the lower hall to make their very own Gingerbread Houses. The PTO Committee offered a complimentary lunch to the participating families. We wish to thank Angela Mamakos for traveling to Market Basket to pick up the numerous pre-fabricated Gingerbread Houses for this PTO event.

Also on December 8, 2018, many PTO families and parishioners traveled by bus to visit and see the spectacular Christmas light displays at the NH Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH. All those who went were amazed by the scope, size and brilliant light displays. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a 4 course dinner at the Athenian Restaurant in Manchester, NH.

On Sunday, December 16, 2018, the Greek School Christmas Program took place in the upper hall after the Divine Liturgy. The children recited their poems and danced a few traditional Greek dances. Everyone enjoyed their performances and the wonderful audio-visual effects arranged by our Greek School Director. Afterwards, Santa Claus made a special visit to our Church to meet and greet all of our children.

On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, the Greek School students sung several Christmas Carols for the attendees at the Dormition Family Table. The visitors cheered and sung along with the stu-dents. Our children brought our guests some much needed holiday cheer.

DORMITION PTO COMMITTEE

On Sunday, December 23, 2018, the Sunday School and PTO held its’ an-nual Christmas Pageant after the Liturgy. The children preformed wonderfully and reminded us to rejoice as Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day. The PTO Committee purchased and assembled a brand new manger display for the pageant. We wish to commend the tremendous effort of Eleni Raschi, our Volun-teer Sunday School Director, for organizing the beautiful pageant. We also wish to recognize George Eliadis, and Evangelos Kechris for their assistance in assem-bling the display.

On Sunday, December 30, 2018, all the parishioners had a fantastic Communion Breakfast af-ter the Liturgy in the lower hall. Many thanks to Anastasios Dres, Regina Dres, Kate Makrigiannis and Georgia Ververis for the cooking, serving, and cleaning associated with this grand feast for the entire community. We also would like to thank Presbytera Anna, Sevi and Phil Dres, Mrs. Nassiopoulos, the Barrett Family, Bressette Family, Kechris Family, Makrigianni Family, Stefanou Family, and Ververis Family for either making a monetary donation or purchasing some items for the breakfast, in order to defray the overall cost of this event.

We hope that you will continue to attend and support all of the future events which have been planned for our Dormition families. Please refer to the 2019 PTO Calendar of Activities and upcoming emails for these future events. The PTO Committee continues to seek additional volunteers to assist with future events planned for our children’s enjoyment. If you are interested in helping our children, our teachers and the PTO Committee then please contact any committee member in advance. The more help the merrier. Let’s serve Him and give our children the best Hellenic and Greek Orthodox experience now and in the future.

GOLDEN CLUB REPORT



On the 16th of March, we had the last official meeting after many years under the leadership of President Mary Limberakis. We thanked her once again for the good

work she did, we thanked Father Manoussakis who was with us, thanked the parish council president Diane Karavitis, and all the ladies who brought wonderful dishes and baked goods for us to enjoy. We had a beautiful day.

Following the luncheon dues were collected by Chrysothemis. If you were unable to pay your dues you can mail them to the church.

Mary Limberakis is planning a “Mystery Ride” for us some time after Easter (May or June. We hope you all will be able to attend.

I hope I see you all during weekday services, Saturday of Lazarus to make the crosses for Palm Sun-day, and on Holy Friday during the decoration of the Epitaphios.

I wish everyone a very happy and Holy Easter. We hope to see you sometime during Holy week. Please come and meet our new priest and wish him your very best.

Στίς 16 Μαρτιίου, το τελευταίο ψυχοσάββατο είχαμε την πρώτη επίσημη συνεδρίαση μετά από πολλών χρόνων της

προέδρου Μαρίας Λιμπεράκη. Την ευχαριστήσαμε και πάλι γιά την καλή δουλειά που έκανε, ευχαριστησάμε τον πάτερ Μαννουσάκη που παρευρέθεικε μαζί μας, ευχαριστήσαμε την πρόεδρο του συμβουλίου Δήμητρα Καραβίτη και όλες τις κυρίες που έφεραν τόσο ωραία φαγητά και γλυκά για να απολάυσουμε. Περάσαμε μία ωραιότατη ημέρα.

Μετά το φαγητό, η Χρυσοθέμις μάζεψε τις συνδρομές από τα μέλλη. Οσοι δεν μπορέσατε να πρηρώσετε μπορείτε να τα ταχυδρομήσετε στην εκκλησία, στήν προσωχή της.

Η Μαρία Λιμπεράκη ετοιμάζει ένα ταξίδι μυστηρίου για όλους, κάπου μετά το Πάσχα, Μάιο η Ιούνιο. Ελπίζω ότι όλοι θα είστε σε θέση να συμμετάσχετε.

Σας περιμένουμε όλους στις καθημερινές λειτουργείες, το Σάββατο του Λαζάρου να φτιάξουμε τα σταυρουδάκια γία την ημέρα των Βαίων, και την Μεγάλη Παρασκευή γιά τον στολισμό του Επιταφίου.

Sunday school is happy to welcome Father Anthony, Presvytera Kellie, Michael, Ella and David to our church. We are excited to announce Father Anthony´s story time with the children each Sunday before the Liturgy in the chapel. This will give our children an opportunity to get to know Father and to learn a new lesson each week.

Sunday school graduation will be held on June 2nd. Please join us in wishing Stavroula Eliadis who will be graduating from Somerville High School, our best. Stavroula

has been accepted into the nursing program at Massachusetts School of Pharmacology. Also graduat-ing, a year early, is Niko Eliadis from Hellenic College.

SUNDAY SCHOOL


Το κατηχητικό σχολείο μας καλωσορίζει τον πάτερ Αντώνιο, την πρεσβυτέρα Kelly, τον Michael, την Ella και τον David στην εκκλησία μας. Είμαστε ενθουσιασμένοι να ανακοινώσουμε την ώρα του παραμυθιού του πάτερ Αντωνίου με τα παιδιά κάθε Κυριακή πριν από τη Λειτουργία στο παρεκκλήσι. Αυτό θα δώσει στα παιδιά μας την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσουν τον πάτερ και να μάθουν ένα νέο μάθημα κάθε εβδομάδα.

Η αποφοίτηση του κατηχητικού σχολειόυ θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 2 Ιουνίου. Σας προσκαλούμε να ευχηθείτε στην Σταυρούλα Ηλιάδη καλή σταδιοδρομία, που θα αποφοιτήσει από το γυμνάσιο φέτος. Η Σταυρούλα έχει γίνει δεκτή σε ενα πρόγραμμα νοσηλευτικής. Επίσης αποφοιτήσει ένα χρόνο νωρίτερα, ο Νίκος Ηλιάδης από την Θεολογική Σχολή. Ο Νίκος και η Σταυρούλα έχουν διδαχθεί με τέτοιο ενθουσιασμό που θά μας λείψουν. Ευχόμαστε καλή τύχη στις μελλοντικές τους προσπάθειες.

Θα ήθελα ευχαριστήσω τον Γεώργιο Ηλιάδη, την Κύρια Ουρανία και την Ειρήνη Πετσάλη. Οι τρείς τους είναι μια ευλογία για τα παιδιά μας και την εκκλησία μας. Έρχονται στην τάξη κάθε εβδομάδα προετοιμασμένοι και πρόθυμοι να διδάξουν στα παιδιά μας την ορθόδοξη πίστη μας. Να ευχαριστήσω επίσης την Ντομένκα Καραβιτάκη και την εκπαιδευτική επιτροπή για την υποστήριξή τους στην προσέγγιση των οικογενειών μας.

Κοιτάζοντας μπροστά, έχουμε ανάγκη καθηγητών και βοηθών για να συνεχίσουμε την καλή δουλειά μας. Σκοπεύουμε να διεξάγουμε σεμινάρια διδασκαλίας τους επόμενους μήνες. Ακόμα κι αν δεν έχετε εμπειρία στη διδασκαλία, μπορείτε να ξεκινήσετε ως βοηθός καθηγητή. Αυτό είναι πολύ σημαντικό, και δεν μπορούμε να υποχωρήσουμε στις ανάγκες των παιδιών μας. Πρέπει να διδάξουμε στα παιδιά μας την πίστη μας και έτσι μαθαίνουμε και εμείσ για την πίστη μας. «Αν δεν διδάξουμε στα παιδιά μας να ακολουθήσουν τον Χριστό ο κόσμοσ θα τους διδάξει να μην το κάνουν». Έχουμε την υποστήριξη του πάτερ και θα μας καθοδηγήσει στην πορεία. Ανυπομονούμε να συμμετάσχετε και να μας βοηθήσετε να οικοδομήσουμε το κατηχητικό μας σχολείο.

Niko and Stavroula have taught with such enthusiasm and will be missed. We wish them good luck in their future endeavors.

I would also like to acknowledge George Eliadis, Mrs. Ourania and Irene Petstalis. They have been a blessing to our children and our church.

They come to class each week prepared and eager to teach our children our Orthodox faith. I would also like to thank Domenica Karavitaki and the Education Committee for their support in bringing our families together.

Looking forward to September we are in need of teachers and assistants to continue our good work. We plan on conducting teaching seminars in the upcoming months. Even if you do not have ex-perience in teaching you can start as an assistant to a teacher. This is a very important ministry and we cannot fall short to the needs of our children. We must teach our children our faith and in doing so we learn about our faith. ¨If we do not teach our children to follow Christ the world will teach them not to.¨ We have the support of Father and he will guide us along the way. We look forward to you joining us and helping us build our Sunday school.

Omiros Greek School

In December, we applauded our students at an amazing Christmas perfor-

mance, where students were so excited and motivated to perform. In January, our

school participated at the Greek literacy celebration (Three Hierarchs) at the Maliotis

Cultural Center and students performed a very powerful play, made from scratch from

our music instructor, Andria Nicodemou. In March, we celebrated the Greek Independence day and in

April our community participated at the Greek parade in Boston.

It has been an amazing school year; students have so much enjoyed performances, hands on

activities, seasonal crafts, board games, and so many other special events and activities that bring

happiness into our students’ world.

Thinking and reflecting on all of these great moments, I realize that what I love most is the

community we have been building here at Omiros. It is the harmony that makes Omiros Greek

School a safe place for our children to learn and grow and for our teachers to educate and inspire.

Let’s continue collaborating to achieve goals and overcoming all the challenges, so that the

journey of knowledge and Greek education goes on.

Τον Δεκέμβριο, χειροκροτήσαμε τους μαθητές μας σε μια εκπληκτική

Χριστουγεννιάτικη παράσταση, όπου οι μαθητές ήταν πολύ ενθουσιασμένοι. Τον

Ιανουάριο, το σχολείο μας συμμετείχε στην εορτή των Τριών Ιεραρχών στο Μαλιώτειο

Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο, και οι μαθητές παρουσίασαν ένα πολύ δυναμικό θεατρικό, το οποίο

δημιούργησε η δασκάλα μουσικής, Άντρια Νικοδήμου.

Τον Μάρτιο, γιορτάσαμε την Ελληνική Ημέρα Ανεξαρτησίας, και τον Απρίλιο η κοινότητα μας

συμμετείχε στην ελληνική παρέλαση στη Βοστώνη.


Διανύουμε μια εκπληκτική σχολική χρονιά. Οι μαθητές έχουν απολαύσει τόσο τις παραστάσεις,

όσο και τις δραστηριότητες, τις εποχιακές χειροτεχνίες, τα επιτραπέζια παιχνίδια και άλλες εκδηλώσεις

και δραστηριότητες που φέρνουν ευτυχία στον κόσμο τους.

Σκεπτόμενη όλες αυτές τις σπουδαίες στιγμές, συνειδητοποιώ ότι αυτό που αγαπώ

περισσότερο είναι η κοινότητα που χτίζουμε εδώ, στο σχολείο “Ομηρος”. Είναι η αρμονία που κάνει το

Ελληνικό Σχολείο του Ομήρου ένα ασφαλές περιβάλλον για να μάθουν και να μεγαλώσουν τα παιδιά,

και να διδάξουν οι δάσκαλοί μας.

Ας συνεχίσουμε να συνεργαζόμαστε για να επιτύχουμε στόχους και να ξεπεράσουμε όλες τις

προκλήσεις, έτσι ώστε να συνεχιστεί το ταξίδι της γνώσης και της ελληνικής εκπαίδευσης.

If you would like to sponsor a coffee hour after Church, please contact the Church Of-

fice. Coffee hours do not have to be only in memory of deceased loved ones. Two or

more families could also join together and sponsor a coffee hour.

You might want to consider hosting a coffee hour in honor of a family member’s birth-

day, name day, wedding, anniversary, graduation, promotion, retirement, and beginning of fall,

end of the winter, an early spring…..or “just because!” If you want the Parish Coun-

cil to prepare the coffee hour for you, please contact the Church office for the differ-

ent rates that are applicable depending upon what food you would like served.
