Father Jacques De Marquette and Louis Jolliet

They were the first people to map the northern part of the Mississippi
River.
Jacques Marquette : Born June 1, 1637 in Laon, Imperial France
Died May 18, 1675 (37 years old) near Ludington, Michigan
Marquette founded Michigan's first European settlement. He
also founded St. Ignace, Michigan.
Louis Jolliet: Born Sept. 21, 1645Last seen May 1700 ( 55 years old ) Jolliet was a Canadian explorer. Jolliet was born in a French settlement near Quebec City. When he was seven his father died. Jolliet’s stepfather owned land on Ile d’Orleans. He spoke English, Spanish, and French.
