ranges Anna has worked as a freelance designer and consultant for clients including

Danielle Scutt – (catwalk sponsorship)

Danielle Scutt’s overtly feminine/masculine collection consists of chiffon dresses, trench

coats, boiler suits, jersey dresses, separates, denim, organza suits, swimwear, jewellery,

belts and sunglasses.

Initially her research tended to lean towards surrealism but this developed and into looking

at pop art with reference to what is deemed acceptable as high and low culture taste.

Her ongoing fascination with the work of Helmut Newton and his highly aesthetically

pleasing imagery of powerful women often boarders the limits of acceptable taste - he himself played outside

bounds by photographing for popular culture magazines such as 'Playboy' hardly considered high culture!

She is fascinated by Richard Hamilton and his methodology with collage, the inspiration of which you can see in

her prints that she constructs (and designs herself) in this way, looking at her own wardrobe and cosmetic objects

such as lipstick casing that she finds seductive, and magazine prints from 69-71 American Vogue magazines, an

era in which the American fashion industry came into it’s own with refreshing cool. She loves everything from that

period, from designer denim, the hairstyles, attitude and advertising particularly cosmetics.

She has even taken Betty Boop images and manipulated the graphic, and collaged patchworks, as well as this

cosmetic imagery, resulting in an expensive, tongue in cheek look from a time when women were creating their

own persona. The lipstick and rocket prints suggest a slightly dangerous, exciting and sexy concept, reminiscent of

Helmut Newton notion of pushing the boundaries.

From Richard Hamilton’s 'Just What Is It That Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing', collage of 1956,

Page 4: FASHION TALENT AWARDED NEW GENERATION SPONSORSHIP … · Marks & Spencer, Karen Millen and Robert Cary Williams. She has also created two acclaimed, sell-out capsule collections for

she has adopted the ethos that culture should be 'popular, transient, expandable, low cost, mass produced, young,

gimmicky, glamorous and big business'.

She has just shown her collection in both Delhi and Dubai as part of Chivas Fashion Tour.

This will be her second solo show at London Fashion Week when she presents her Autumn/Winter 2009/10

collection in February, and the third time she will enjoy New Generation sponsorship from Topshop.. Press

David David – (exhibition sponsorship) David came to fashion via fine art after graduating from Chelsea College of Art in 1999

and has since been hailed as the ‘poster boy for the London crossover between art and

fashion’ (Sarah Mower, American Vogue). An installation at the MAN show during

London Fashion Week in 2005 was a turning point in developing the brands celebrated

unique style - his hand painted brightly coloured kaleidoscopic patterns, have become

synonymous to the design and intrinsic to his collections. This season David continues to

explore geometric prints in bright, bold colourways on modern sportswear and traditional tailored pieces for men

and women. David David's clients include Samantha Morton, Alice Delall, Agyness Deyn, Sam Taylor-Wood,

M.I.A, Daisy Lowe, Santogold, Block Party, Patrick Wolf. Stocked at Dover Street Market & Matches London,

Saint Martins and has since been appointed by some of the industry’s most innovative

designers including Rafael Lopez and Jonathan Saunders.

This season he receives the prestigious New Generation award for the fourth time. Emilio’s

devotees include Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Moss and his collections have been featured in

publications such as Vogue, Vogue Italy, i-D, Dazed & Confused, Numero, Muse, Purple,

Felder•Felder – (exhibition sponsorship) Daniela and Annette Felder launched their womenswear line FELDER • FELDER whilst studying at Central Saint

Martins. The German twin sisters behind the label swiftly won the attention of the international

fashion press with their signature style and developed a strong following from key influencers,

including Simon Robins of Russian Vogue and photographers such as Lorenzo Agius.

Their first show gained respect and was quickly admired by top buyers including Selfridges and

Browns Focus who both stock the label.

The label’s collections feature dramatic dresses in finest silks and chiffon finished and

embellished with contrasting details using leather, metal and embroidery. The directional yet feminine silhouette is

House of Holland – (catwalk and exhibition sponsorship) For Spring/Summer 2009, House of Holland conjures up happy, carefree summer days,

with delicate layers of hand-sewn rose petals, chiffon and organza, hardened with denim,

polka dot seams, kaleidoscopic florals, and heavy industrial metal zips.

Commissioning some of London's newest illustrative talent, a halter neck bloomer suit is

bedecked in bold pink hydrangea by Will Broome. A classic men's suit in floral printed

organza by David Bradley, features seams bound with polka dots (prevalent in the

collections' pocket linings, underneath collars, and turn-ups), which also appears on bikinis

and cutaway cycling shorts as well as drawstring bucket bags. Gerbera prints by Sophie

Stephens further enrich the colour palette with vibrant tangerine, and a wild rose print by Jessica May Underwood,

has also been printed onto denim.

House of Holland’s collaboration with Levi's®, entitled 501® Jeans by House of Holland, exclusively available from

Selfridges' Superbrands department, comprises 6 limited edition styles; 3 printed and 3 laser-cut. Henry Holland

has welcomed the opportunity to incorporate Levi's 501® Jeans, the ultimate straight-leg button-fly jean into his

new collection.

Working with the same team from his first show, Katie Hillier has designed all bags and jewellery for House of

Holland, including floral knuckledusters, round purses, and dome-shaped button pins. She has also customised

brightly coloured sunglasses by House of Holland for Linda Farrow Project with plastic flowers and 3D silver

versions of the House of Holland house logo, which also feature on silver metal headbands she has designed.

A tangerine soft suede shorts suit with zip detail, and a baseball top inspired floor length dress, underline a sports

slant. With the transparency of fabric, myriad prints, and cutaway detailing, the collection effortlessly interchanges

by purposefully layering mismatching elements.

A strong fanbase includes: Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof, Kelly Osbourne, and his close friend Agyness Deyn.

Again supported by New Generation sponsorship from Topshop, this will be House of Holland’s 3rd solo show at

Mark Fast – (catwalk sponsorship) This 27 year old Canadian born knitwear designer studied at Central St. Martins graduating with a BA and MA in

February 2008. Mark has created knitwear for Bora Aksu, a collaboration that spanned 3

seasons. He loves to knit everything by hand on a domestic machine. He is inspired by the

endless possibilities of lycra yarns and how they can create areas of tension and areas of

volume over the body by mixing-in viscoses, angoras or wools. He is also greatly inspired by

how historical costume and objects can be translated into a contemporary aesthetic. His work

is formed onto the body as he knits. He has created new ways to sculpt different volumes over

the body by using different yarns and stitch techniques. “I believe that in fashion these days

there is a growing attention to craftsmanship, as opposed to quick-fix disposable pieces. I am

focusing on timeless classics.” – Mark Fast. Press enquiries: [email protected]

Mary Katrantzou – (catwalk and exhibition sponsorship)

Greek born print designer Mary Katrantzou studied at Rhode Island School of Design before

transferring to Central Saint Martins to complete a BA in Textile Design, and then graduated

from Central Saint Martins with a Distinction in MA Fashion Textiles. Her graduation collection

featured "Trompe L’oeil" digital prints of oversized jewellery on bonded zip dresses. Inspired

by Russian Constructivism and early 70s movie poster references, her prints create the illusion

of wearing giant neckpieces that would be too heavy to wear. Equipped with the valuable

insight that she gained through working for Sophia Kokosalaki and selling her designs to Bill

Blass. Her strength as a textile designer lies in her use of digital printing and her interpretation of colour and

symmetry in creating graphic prints that have a hyperrealist aesthetic.

Meadham Kirchhoff – (catwalk and exhibition sponsorship)

English Edward Meadham and French born Benjamin Kirchhoff graduated from Central

Saint Martins in 2002. Their debut Womenswear collection for Fashion East was

launched in February 2006 and the pair since won another show with the scheme and

further new generation exhibition sponsorships. Their SS08 collection marked a turning

point in the label, defining their aesthetic in incorporating a classic take on both

bourgeois garments and hard street cultures. The woman they design for is uncompromising, nonchalantly elegant,

intelligent and melancholic.

Meadham Kirchhoff sells to Browns Focus in London, Colette and Maria Luisa in Paris, Opening Ceremony and

Curve in both New York and Los Angeles and Space Mue in Seoul.

Press enquiries: Kat/Joel at Goodley PR, +44 (0) 20 7493 9600, [email protected]; [email protected] Nasir Mazhar – (catwalk sponsorship)

25-year-old Nasir Mazhar from East London is a hatter obsessed by the history of

headwear and sculptural forms. In February he will for the first time be showing on the

main London Fashion Week schedule with New Generation sponsorship from Topshop.

Last season he enjoyed a New Generation bursary and held a presentation off-schedule

during London Fashion Week at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen.

From working in the hairdressing industry training with Vidal Sassoon, he became frustrated with limitations of hair,

wanting to create more defined shapes impossible with hair. So he started to use materials to assist the hair soon

becoming constructions and shapes irrespective of the hair, and very quickly becoming headwear!

His pieces are portable architectural interventions which strike at the chore of our embodied sense of self. What

they achieve is to alter the dynamic circulation of identity, by means of a form of sculptural surgery which

understands the weight that corporeal intensity bears upon our everyday life.

He feels that every modern hat you see comes from the past. You could say the baseball cap comes from a jockey

cap worn by a Russian princess in the 1760s. The earliest cap was a black leather six-section crown with a foot

long peak, black leather lined with white kid. The basic shape not that different to the six-section short peaked cap

we love to wear now. He feels that headwear goes back forever, even from man's earliest pursuits, from ploughing

fields, playing sports and hunting!

He loves how over the years, early styles and shapes have been revolutionised! Often they have changed what

was happening in society with your headwear stating your social standing with hats for differing classes, and

different hats for different occasions.

He has been working as a theatrical hatter with Mark Wheeler for the past 2 years, first meeting him when he was

working on Kylie's first Showgirl tour. Since then, he has worked on productions with Rambert Dance Company,

The Royal Opera House, Globe Theatre, National Theatre and Barbican amongst others.

A specially commissioned padded headpiece for Madonna appeared on the cover of Dazed & Confused earlier this

year and he has been profiled in POP Magazine.

Nicholas Kirkwood - (exhibition sponsorship) An alumnus of prestigious design schools Central Saint Martin’s and Cordwainers,

Kirkwood’s eponymous collection launched Spring 2005. The collection comprised of

architecturally inspired pieces with a blend of genres subverting the relationship between

femininity and modernity. This won Kirkwood the attention of Grace Jones and Cecilia Dean

of celebrated art-house publication Visionaire as well as design stint at Chloé. Kirkwood has

collaborated with Swarovski resulting in a sub-collection of black evening shoes, all

featuring a sliced in to heel with a large black sphere-cut crystal suspended in it. Seasonal

trends appear in Kirkwood’s work unintentionally and are always at the zeitgeist rather than following or emulating

it. SS 08’s collection won him the prestigious AltaRoma Vogue Italia award for accessories design in July and the

commendation of American Vogue’s Editor at Large André Leon-Talley.

Peter Pilotto – (catwalk and exhibition sponsorship)

Austrian born Peter Pilotto and Libyan born Christopher De Vos are the designers behind the

Peter Pilotto label. The design duo met while studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in

Antwerp.

Their customer is timeless and ageless, and it is her spirit that attracts her to mix colour and

prints that are intrinsically Peter Pilotto. The pair are entranced by the richly decorated

costumes of the 1920's Ballet Russes, the illustrations of Leon Bakst, medieval Page Boys,

Byzantine Churches, warriors of ancient Rome and back to a much further future - science

fiction. Peter Pilotto now sells at Colette in Paris, Matches in London, Opening Ceremony in NY and LA, and other

leading stores worldwide.
