    Give each participant a set of the 13 fashion styles pages.

    The various parts of a garment can be designed in different ways. Today welllearn the names of these basic styles.

    The neckline is the area around the neck and shoulders. There are 12 basic stylesof necklines.

    A collar is a separate piece of fabric that is attached to the neckline. It may besewn to the neckline or it may be detachable. There are 19 basic styles of collars.

    Sleeves began as fabric that was draped off the shoulder. There are more than 25different styles of sleeves.

    Dress styles are divided into those that have a waistline and those that do not.

    There are 12 basic styles of dresses.There are many styles of shirts for both men and women. A shirt is a top thatis more tailored than a blouse, but shirts and blouses fall into the same basicgarment category when it comes to design. There are 12 basic styles of shirts.

    A skirt is a separate garment that can be worn with any shirt, blouse or otherkind of top. There are 12 basic styles of skirts. There are at least 11 differentskirt lengths (some may say more).

    Pants styles may vary in length and width. There are eight recognized lengths(some may say more), with ten basic styles.

    Jackets and coats may be single- or double-breasted, or they may be in the formof a vest. There are 20 basic styles of jackets and coats.

    Activity 1: Fashion Finders

    Have the young people work in groups of two or three. Assign each group

    a different set of fashion styles. They are to nd three to ve examples ofthese styles in magazines, cut out the pictures, glue them onto plain paper,and write the name of the style beside each picture. At the end of theactivity, have the groups report on what they found.

    Discussion questions:

    Were some styles dif cult to nd? Which ones? Were some styles much easier to nd? Which ones? Does the season affect the availability of some styles?

    Activity 2: Word Search Puzzles

    Give each participant a copy of each of the three puzzles to complete.
