Elements/Principles of design

Color -Create an original color wheel illustrating the following: primary colors, secondary colors, intermediate colors, complementary colors, and analogous colors. Form/shape – Find pictures of 3 fashionable outfits with different shapes and mount them in boxes. They should describe each outfit shape and explain how it would flatter or disguise various parts of the body. Line – Draw designs on given body outlines using lines that create particular illusions. They will also be asked to describe the illusions they have tried to create. Texture-Collect and mount fabric swatches that have various textures. They will be asked to describe each texture and the illusions it could create in apparel.

Influences of advertising

Look through current magazines and analyze clothing ads. Ask them to describe how advertisers appeal to consumers’ emotions. Discuss how to separate factual information from an emotional appeal about a product.
