Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was born on August 19th, 1883 in Saumur, France

Died in Paris on January 10th, 1971

She came from nowhere and died an icon. The designs of this influential couturier permanently changed the look of the modern woman.

FAMILY AND EDUCATION

Gabrielle grew up in impoverished circumstances in an orphanage.

In the orphanage she was raised by nuns who taught her to sew.

She began her fashion career by opening her first shop on Paris’s Rue Cambon in 1910, Chanel started out by selling hats. She later added stores in Deauville and Biarritz and began making clothes.

She was influenced by fashion icons such as Etienne Balsan and Arthur “Boy” Capel. Both men were instrumental in Chanel’s first fashion venture.

I like most of Chanel’s designs. I think they are pretty and stylish. I do not own any Chanel products

because I believe they are too expensive. I think Coco Chanel’s life was very interesting and can understand the importance of her career in the

fashion world.
