Case Study: Gorilla Glue ManufacturingResults• Manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution keeping pace with double-digit growth while lowering operating costs

• WMS scalability, flexibility, and reliability provide the confidence to anticipate and support growing needs and changing requirements for years to come

• More efficient production runs with lower scrap rates

• Visibility across all supply chain functions with access to real-time information

Gorilla Glue, Inc. manufacturers, warehouses and distributes nineteen distinct product lines including glue, tape, sealant, wood bond, skin care, and more. As growing demand exposed the company’s inefficient paper-based data management system, it was apparent that an automated solution was needed.

Growing Pains

“We knew that we had pallets of material somewhere,” explained Vice President of Manufacturing, Rob Gruber. “We were literally sending people out to locate what we had and where it was. Too often we had no clear picture of what raw materials we had on hand, where it was, or even how much we had.”

Because Gorilla Glue was along-time user of Microsoft Dynamics GP, an initial automation attempt was made leveraging a kitting feature found in the ERP system. While some incremental improvements were achieved, responsiveness would require a more advanced and robust supply chain-focused solution.

WMS Selection

After evaluating multiple systems, FASCOR WMS proved to offer the best solution. “The program is accessible to or complete staff,” said Gruber. “FASCOR WMS is powerful, quick to learn and easy to use; and we were anxious to put it to work.” Because Gorilla Glue also stocks and distributes the products it manufacturers, FASCOR WMS could be effectively leveraged throughout the company’s extended supply chain.

Lower Operating Costs

With expanded markets, investment in new products and increased demand, Gorilla Glue continues an unprecedented double-digit growth rate. Yet, as other departments add staff, a more accurate FASCOR WMS-based process is enabling manufacturing, warehousing and distribution to keep pace while lowering operating costs.

4 Questions 4 Josh Orndorff

Josh is FASCOR’s lead developer for WebTools. He is also working on web integration for FASCOR TMS. We were able to catch up with Josh just long enough to ask four quick questions…

Can you tell us a little about yourself? I grew up in the Greater Cincinnati area, primarily southeastern Indiana, with my wonderful mother, father, and younger sister. I’ve worked on and off at FASCOR as an intern and was more recently taken on as an employee, becoming more involved in the development and maintenance of ongoing

projects. I enjoy composing music, singing, doing graphic design, making short films, preparing food, programming recreationally, making wood burnings and 3D prints, and sundry other activities.

What do you like best about working at FASCOR?

If I can list two favorite things … first, I enjoy being able to write code that improves and streamlines day-to-day operations, both for customers and internally. And second, I am grateful to be able to work in such an open and accessible environment.

Who are some people you admire and why?

One person I admire very much is my father; the reasons are too many to list, but to name a few … I admire him for his intelligence, his creativity, and his wit, but most especially for his care and love for our family. I also admire Bill Watterson, the creator of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes. I admire him for his incredible work in creating the dynamic duo who build time machines from cardboard boxes and take treacherous, philosophical wagon rides. I also admire his dedication to his principles in refusing to let his characters be commercialized.

What’s something about you that not many people know?

When I was much younger, my family lived in Germany for six months. At one point while we were there, we had to leave our house by boat due to a flood!

Is Your TMS Shipping Money out the Door?

While it may just seem like a few dollars here and there, failure to leverage competitive rates along with hidden labor costs will quickly add up. In fact, unchecked shipping costs can consume millions of dollars in just a few short years. For one distributor an integrated WMS/TMS/ERP solution delivered annual savings of nearly half a million dollars in shipping and labor alone.

Read about it here.

WMS that Won’t Break the Bank

Small to mid-size companies face many of the same challenges as much larger organizations. Yet unlike their large counterparts they typically have neither the need nor the budget for all of the added extras (and cost) that generally comes with a large Tier 1 WMS. FASCOR offers a WMS solution with Tier 1 functionality at a comfortable price-point.

FASCOR TMS: WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO YOU?From quoting and carrier selection to routing, tracking, and WMS integration, transportation management is an increasingly complex and often costly process. FASCOR automates the process to streamline and simplify freight shipping.

As we work to develop the next release of FASCOR TMS we’ve got just one question: What’s important to you? Make your voice heard and tell us what features and functions you would like to see in upcoming versions of FASCOR TMS.
