Celebration of National Farmer’s Day – 23rd Dec 2016
Lt. Sh. Chaudhary Charan Singh was the Prime Minister of the Republic of India,
serving from 28 July 1979 until 14 January 1980. Sh. Charan Singh
was of the opinion that cooperative farms would not succeed in
India. Being a son of a farmer, Charan Singh opined that the right of
ownership was important to the farmer in remaining a cultivator.
His association with causes dear to farming communities in India
caused his memorial in New Delhi to be named Kisan Ghat. His
birthday on 23 December is celebrated as “Kisan Diwas” in India.
BISLD celebrated Kisan Diwas under the Agri Horti project sponsored by
Hindustan Zinc Ltd. at 06 project locations (i.e. Zawer-Udaipur, Debari-Udaipur,
Dariba-Rajsamand, Agucha-Bhilwara, Chanderiya-Chittorgarh & Kayad-Ajmer).
Participation of 800-900 farmers comprising all locations with a greater enthusiasm
and an expectation of knowledge sharing assembled at several locations.
Basic objective behind celebrating Kisan Diwas was to make a get together of
farmers and celebrate it like a festival.

Location Finance Head Rajpura Dariba Mines, CSR team of all locations, Pradhan,
Sarpanch, Govt. Agriculture & Livestock officers and other stakeholders were

between farmers, where an interactive session between experts and farmers also
held. Farmers asked their queries regarding diseases of large and small ruminants,
benefits of poultry keeping, rearing & marketing of small ruminants (especially goats
& poultry).
A session of quiz listing 16 questions was an innovative and interesting feature
