Celebration of National Farmer’s Day – 23 rd Dec 2016 Lt. Sh. Chaudhary Charan Singh was the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, serving from 28 July 1979 until 14 January 1980. Sh. Charan Singh was of the opinion that cooperative farms would not succeed in India. Being a son of a farmer, Charan Singh opined that the right of ownership was important to the farmer in remaining a cultivator. His association with causes dear to farming communities in India caused his memorial in New Delhi to be named Kisan Ghat. His birthday on 23 December is celebrated as “Kisan Diwas” in India. BISLD celebrated Kisan Diwas under the Agri Horti project sponsored by Hindustan Zinc Ltd. at 06 project locations (i.e. Zawer-Udaipur, Debari-Udaipur, Dariba-Rajsamand, Agucha-Bhilwara, Chanderiya-Chittorgarh & Kayad-Ajmer). Participation of 800-900 farmers comprising all locations with a greater enthusiasm and an expectation of knowledge sharing assembled at several locations. Basic objective behind celebrating Kisan Diwas was to make a get together of farmers and celebrate it like a festival. “Sh. P.S. Jaitawat, Location head Zawar Mines, Sh. Hemendra Sharma, Location Finance Head Rajpura Dariba Mines, CSR team of all locations, Pradhan, Sarpanch, Govt. Agriculture & Livestock officers and other stakeholders were participated in the celebration event.” Guests from KVK & Animal Husbandry Department explored their knowledge between farmers, where an interactive session between experts and farmers also held. Farmers asked their queries regarding diseases of large and small ruminants, benefits of poultry keeping, rearing & marketing of small ruminants (especially goats & poultry). A session of quiz listing 16 questions was an innovative and interesting feature of the celebration, where enthusiastically farmers responded the questions and got rewards by Guests. Women farmers excitedly responded on technical queries like why line sowing is important. The celebration was a memorable for everyone participated, project team as well as farmers made a commitment for ensuring the success of project in future.
