Certied OrganicCerties requirements of USDA National Organic Program aremet and veried through inspection by independent state or privateorganizations like the USDA or WSDA.

What does organic mean? Te National Organic Standards Board

adopted this denition in April 1995. Organic agriculture is anecological production management system that promotes and enhancesbiodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity. It is basedon minimal use of off-farm inputs and on management practices thatrestore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony.

While many consumers recognize the Certied Organic label, you maynot be familiar with the particular farming practices and methods alsobeing certied. Additionally, many farmers use a variety of sustainablepractices but choose not to be certied. Te best way to learn abouthow your food is grown is to ask your farmer about their practices.Start a conversation today, whether in person or online by visiting their

    website or Facebook page.

Salmon-SafeSalmon-Safe is a non-prot based in Portland Oregon that offerscertication programs linking land management practices withprotection of West Coast agricultural and urban watersheds.Salmon-Safe farms protect and restore native salmon habitat, waterquality and native biodiversity in their local watersheds.

Locally Raised MeatTese local farmers practice good pasture management and raise theirlivestock in a sustainable, ethical and humane manner. Its good for theanimals, good for the environment and good for you.

Credit/Debit and EBT Cards When visiting a farm or farmers market, always bring cash, as not allaccept credit/debit cards. When using food assistance benets at afarmers market, check in with the market information booth to ndout which vendors accept EB or additional benets like WIC FMNPor Senior FMNP.

Te Farm Guide is a wonderful tool for families to go out and experience farm life.We have chickens, we have cows, the kids get to picktheir own berries and they get to be in the orchard. It is soimportant to get kids out to the farm because they are our future farmers and when they come out, their eyes light up.Te Farm Guide is a tremendous asset for bringing people

together with farmers. Cindi Fox, Foxberry Farm
