Wouldnt Bollywood lose a bit of its sheen without fashion? It wont be wrong to say that

fashion adds a touch of magic to tinsel town. With every passing year, our B-town stars

have redefined the way we look at style. On the special occasion of our 4th anniversary,

StarWeek presents Indias Most Stylish a hotlist of stars who have wowed us with their

inimitable style. And topping the list is none other than the man of the moment the

uber stylish FarhanAkhtar.

Tell FarhanAkhtar that he is arguably the most stylish man in the industry today and hell

probably tell you, with a half smile, that he doesnt know how to react to the

compliment. And thats the beauty of Farhans sense of style he doesnt take it too

seriously. The multi-talented star has an innate sense of style; it comes to him easily

and effortlessly. His supreme command over style reflects in everything he does be it

the clothes he wears or the slick films he makes. Young and confident, he is neither a

slave to designer labels nor is he one to follow trends blindly. Instead, he plays around

with fashion and dresses just the way he wants to; fashion critics be damned! And does

he go wrong? Certainly not. With every appearance, he breaks a few rules of fashion and

makes his own style statement. And thats exactly why he is our pick for StarWeeks title

of Indias Most Stylish this year. One of Bollywoods fashion icons, the actor-director

talks about everything from Prada to his worn-out yellow keds as he shares his style tips

with us. Excerpts:

Considering youre touted as Indias Most Stylish, tell me, what does style mean to you personally?

To me, I think style is a physical manifestation of who you are. It shows your attitude, your cultural influences, your identity and what you think of yourself. It all reflects

in what you wear, how you do your hair or even what kind of car you drive. These are ultimately all extensions of your personality. So I think true style is an individual

representation of who you are inside being shown to everyone.

If you had to describe your personal style in three words, what would they be?

Do your thing thats my style mantra (laughs).

One of the few disadvantages of becoming an actor is that youre constantly under scrutiny be it your personal life or your appearance. So do you see

dressing well as an added pressure or do you feel its a part of your image as a movie star?

No, I dont think the pressure of dressing well is that important. Eventually, I dont think it matters to people what youre wearing when youre going out for dinners. What

matters to them is what they see of you on screen in the larger sense of things. You see, style is a very personal thing and its what you enjoy doing. Like, I know people

who enjoy wearing clothes and keep changing them up with a change in trends. And why not? Thats what they enjoy doing. Thats their thrill. My thrill lies somewhere

else. I, more often than not, end up buying things for my friends rather than for myself. So style varies from person to person because like I said, its a personality thing. I

am very comfortable with somebody doing my clothes when I have to dress up to go somewhere. Im fine with that. But I am not at all comfortable with somebody telling

me what I should wear every single day of my life. Im not at all okay with a personal designer telling me on a daily basis what I should wear to get a casual cool look.

Do you think youve committed any fashion faux pas in the past?

To be honest with you, I dont think I have made any fashion faux pas in the past because I dont take it that seriously. But a lot of people around me have pointed out

certain things to me (laughs). Like, a lot of people ask me, Why do you keep wearing those yellow shoes constantly? And I am like, Because I like them and they are

comfortable. And then they say, Yeah but you have been seen in these yellow shoes everywhere you have been for the last eight weeks. So things like that have

happened. But in my own head, I have never made a fashion faux pas (laughs).

What do you believe is the one look that you can never go wrong with?

Well, my yellow keds for sure (laughs). But on a serious note, I think its the whole look of a black tie with a white shirt. It is such a classic look that I think it is very, very

difficult to go wrong with it if you just stay true to that.

If you had five minutes to get dressed, youd wear

Well, thats exactly what happened today and what happens on most days. I just threw on

the t-shirt that was lying on top of the pile, a pair of jeans that was just hung there and put

on the most comfortable shoes that I have and here I am (laughs).

Youre always very well turned out at red carpet events. Who helps you with your

appearances?

There are a few people who I depend on for red carpet events. I have worked with

ArjunBhasin in the past, he has designed a lot of stuff for me. Recently, I have worked with

Govinda Mehta. He takes care of my wardrobe as far as these formal events go. I am very

comfortable working with him. So its mainly between these two people.

Do you seek your wife AdhunaAkhtars opinion as well considering she is innately

stylish herself?

Adhuna is extremely stylish, thats true. And whenever I dress up to go somewhere, she is the

one person I always check with. But then, she also loves me very much. So I dont think she

honestly tells me every time what she thinks of what I am wearing (laughs). But then she

knows that I have my own way of doing things, that I dress for comfort. So she is very, very

supportive of what I wear (smiles).

What is your favourite designer label?

I am not really a slave to designer labels. However, one designer label that I really like would

be Prada. I find them very understated. So even when you are wearing something thats from

Prada, it doesnt shout out that I am from Prada (laughs). Thats what I like about the brand.

Its very comfortable, very high quality but at the same time, it has this sense of being

understated which works for me.

And do you have a favourite high street brand?

Amongst high street brands, I have too many. There are so many to choose from, you know.

They are all so good. I dont really have one favourite high street brand as such.

Whats your next big purchase?

I think it would be something formal.I dont change my wardrobe of casuals so much. But I

keep changing my wardrobe for formal affairs and that is one area I have been wanting to

redo.

Bollywood has witnessed many stylish stars over the years. Are

there any celebrities whose sense of style you admire?

I think there are a couple of people in the industry who are really stylish. They really have a cool, casual way of dressing. I definitely think Saif (Ali

Khan) is one of them, Ive always found him very stylish. And Shah Rukh (Khan) has a good sense of personal style too. Among the actresses,

Kangna (Ranaut) dresses really well. She has a very individual sense of style. When you talk about stylish actresses, she is the one name that

springs to my mind.

Finally, what is the one tip regarding dressing up that youd like to give guys?

If youre personally not too much of a fashion magazine buff to know whats in fashion and whats going on out there, then find somebody who knows

it and whom you can trust. Thats the only advice I can give guys.
