FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT A CHINESE VISA (MAINLAND)

1. What does "ENTERING BEFORE" on my visa mean?

"ENTERING BEFORE" is the expiry date of the visa. A visa holder is eligible to enter Chinaat any time prior to the expiry date (allowed to enter China even before 24:00 [BeijingTime] on the last day of its valid period), provided that permitted entries on the visa havenot been used up. If a double­entry or multi­entry visa has expired, the visa holder cannotenter China with this expired visa even if he has been to China only once.

2. What does "DURATION OF EACH STAY" on my visa mean?

"DURATION OF EACH STAY" indicates the maximum days of each stay in China countingfrom the date of entry into China rather than the total staying days within the valid period ofa visa, which is different from a Romanian visa. A visa holder's planned duration of stay in

China must not exceed the duration stated in the visa. However, the duration of each staydoes not necessarily overlap with the valid period of a visa. For example, the validperiod of a visa is from 29 August 2015 to 29 November 2015 and the duration of each stayis 30 days. The visa holder can enter China on any day between 29 August 2015 and 29November 2015. The visa holder can even enter China on 29 November and stay for 30days till 28 December.

3. I applied for a double­entry visa but after I get my visa, can I ask the embassy staff toextend its duration of each stay or to change it to a multiple­entry visa?

No. The Chinese Embassy can not change the duration of each stay or the number ofentries of an issued visa. Please make sure you fill in the blank of "the longest intendedstay in China among all entries" and "intended number of entries" correctly in your visaapplication form. Otherwise you have to apply for a new visa.

4. I want to apply for a single­entry visa and stay in China for 30 days but my passport willexpire in 4 months. Can I apply with this passport?/ I want to apply for a multiple­entry visafor one year and stay in China for 30 days but my passport will expire in 12 months. Can Iapply with this passport?

No. The remaining valid period of one's passport must be more than 6 months and mustexceed one's intended staying period plus the valid period of a visa one intends to applyfor. Thus in the two examples above, for the single­entry visa applicant, the remaining validperiod of his passport must exceed 7 months and for the multiple­entry visa applicant, theremaining valid period of his passport must exceed 13 months. Otherwise one has tochange for a new passport first.

5. Can I extend my visa in China?

After entry into China, a foreign citizen who needs to stay in China longer than the durationof stay specified on the visa must apply for an extension of stay at a local public securityauthority before the expiry of the duration of stay on the visa. This does not necessarilymean your application for the extension of stay will for sure be approved. An applicant shallbear any consequences arising from there. Overstay in China violates the Chinese lawsand regulations on control of the entry and exit of foreigners and foreigners could be finedor punished with other penalties.

6. If I go to Hong Kong or Macau, shall I apply for a double­entry visa?

Unlike a single­entry Schengen visa which allows the visa holder to travel in the Schengenarea freely regardless of how many Schengen countries one visits, for those who enter themainland from Hong Kong or Macau, please note that each time you do so, it is countedas one entry.

7. Are there specific requirements about a business invitation letter?

Yes. Applicants are requested to provide two invitation letters, one in Chinese, and theother in English or Romanian.

An invitation letter must contain:

a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)b) Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates,

place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual,financial source for expenditures)

c) Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number,address, official stamp (a round one rather than a rectagular one), printed as well ashand­written Chinese name of the legal representative or the inviting individual)

If the applicant wants a double­entry or a multi­entry business visa, this must bespecified clearly in the invitation letter and at least two flight reservations and hotelreservations are required.

If the applicant wants to apply for a double­entry visa to travel to Hongkong orMacao during his stay in China, it must be specified clearly in the invitation letter.

Make sure the invitation letter is stamped and clearly signed. An invitation letterwithout a stamp or a hand­written name or with an ambiguous stamp or anambiguous hand­written name or a name stamp will not be accepted. If an invitationletter is signed by a Chinese, both the printed name and hand­written name should be inChinese characters while if it is signed by a foreigner, the Latin letters of his or her nameshould be clear and identifiable.

8. Can I apply for a Chinese visa if there is only one blank page on my passport?

No. There must be at least 2 blank pages on your passport. 9. When can I pay in the UniCredit Bank after I have applied for a Chinese visa?

 You can pay on any day before you pick up your visa. It is strongly recommended that youpay on any day between the application day and the pickup day but not on these twodays.

10. Is a medical check­up report or medical insurance needed for visa application?

No medical check­up report or medical insurance is needed for visa application.

11. If I'm going to stay in China for 15 days, can I just provide a hotel reservation of 10days?

No. The dates of your hotel reservation should conform with your flight reservation. If youapply for a business visa, the period of your stay in China should coincide with that ofyour hotel reservation and flight reservation.

12. If I want to apply for a double entry visa, can I just provide one flight reservation and onehotel reservation because I don't know the exact time of my second trip to China?

No. If you apply for a double entry visa, you need to show two flight reservations and twohotel reservations. If you don't know the exact time of your second trip to China, you canonly apply for a single entry visa. After your first trip to China, you may apply for yoursecond visa.

13. Is my Romanian ID card required for visa application?

No, it's not required.

14. How many cigarettes or how much cash can I take into China? Can I take a pet withme?
