AstroDance$Visits$Fanwood!$$

On%Tuesday,%May%28th,%Fanwood%hosted%the%performing%group,%AstroDance.%%AstroDance%is%an%innovative%multimedia%performance%that%uses%dance%to%tell%the%story%of%black%holes%and%the%gravitational%pull%of%particles%in%the%universe.%%

Their%performance%blended%live%dancers,%narration,%multimedia%imagery%and%film%that%created%and%educational%and%entertaining%experience.%%AstroDance%is%a%joint%project%between%RIT’s%College%of%Science,%the%B.%Thomas%Golisano%School%of%Computing%and%Information%Sciences,%and%NTID’s%Performing%Arts%program.%%%This%show%was%created%to%provide%deaf,%hardIofIhearing%and%hearing%children%with%general%information%and%basic%concepts%from%the%fields%of%gravitational%physics%and%astrophysics%while%engaging%them%in%an%enjoyable%and%interesting%theatrical%experience.%

After%the%performance,%the%dancers%took%some%time%for%questions%and%answers%from%the%students.%%Students%asked%questions%about%whether%it%was%difficult%for%the%dancers%to%keep%rhythm%to%what%their%college%experience%was%like%to%how%they%chose%their%majors.%%It%was%a%great%experience%for%our%students%and%a%perfect%opportunity%to%talk%with%college%students.%%%%

DAY$IN$CLAY$Recently,%our%students%had%opportunity%to%observe%the%work%of%a%professional%artist,%sculptor/potter/%Mr.%Cliff%Mendelson.%Mr.%Mendelson%has%been%a%teacher%and%practicing%artist%in%the%community.%He%has%taught%at%Parsons%School%of%Design,%Greenwich%House%Pottery,%and%Hunter%College,%and%currently%at%the%Westchester%Art%Workshop.%%%Mr.%Mendelson%shared%his%expertise%and%talent%by%demonstrating%the%art%of%creating%pottery%by%hand.%Students%enjoyed%learning%about%the%process%and%effort%involved%in%creating%ceramic%pieces%and%

gained%and%appreciation%for%the%skill%involved%in%making%a%work%of%Art.%%Through%this%excellent%program,%students%were%able%to%witness%someone%who%succeeds%at%what%he%enjoys%most,%while%turning%it%into%his%life’s%work.%%

%Students%were%exposed%to%seeing%an%artist%create%original%works%of%art%in%an%atmosphere%that%encouraged%their%inquiry,%and%involvement.%%All%students%created%their%own%individual%clay%pieces%using%the%style%and%techniques%of%the%Native%American%Potters.%%Symbols,%patterns%and%imagery%were%utilized%in%their%own%work%to%explore%this%Native%

JanIMichael%Guillermo%was%the%2013%recipient%of%the%Paul%T.%Kennedy%Award%for%an%outstanding%senior%athlete.%%%

On%Friday,%May%31st%our%preschool%and%elementary%school%students%prepared%for%a%day%of%funIinItheIsun!%%The%day%was%hot%but%there%was%a%lot%of%shade%and%cold%water%to%cool%off!%%%

Congratulations%to%the%Senior%Class%of%2013!%%This%year’s%prom%was%held%at%Mamaroneck%Beach%&%Yacht%Club%and%it%was%a%huge%success!%%The%evening%began%with%pictures%at%6:30pm%followed%by%delicious%appetizers%both%indoors%and%outdoors.%%%

The%decorations%were%beautiful%and%all%the%students%and%staff%were%dressed%to%impress.%%As%soon%as%the%curtains%were%drawn,%guests%were%led%into%the%main%

room%where%dinner%and%dancing%would%commence.%%

There%were%many%highlights%of%the%night,%but%of%course%one%of%the%most%memorable%was%the%traditional%crowning%of%the%King%and%Queen.%%Announced%by%representatives%of%the%Junior%Class,%all%guests%were%thrilled%to%learn%that%Seniors%Shellane%McKitty%and%Julio%Perez%were%named%the%2013%Prom%Queen%and%King!%%%
