The Fantasy Stock Exchange By Gary Davenport

FANTASY STOCK EXCHANGE: Week 16

The Fantasy Stock Exchange is about to close up shop. The 2016 business year is about to come to a close.

In the overwhelming majority of fantasy football leagues, Week 16 is the end of line. Championship Week. Investors who lost their shirts this year have been cast aside. All that remain in each league are a pair of sharks who made a killing on their investments this season. By the time the dust settles and the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys wrap up Week 16 next Monday night, a champion will have been crowned.

They are who we thought they were.

Given that this is Championship Week, fantasy football needs to be looked at a bit differently. Yes, past performance is important. So is dancing with the players that got you this far to begin with. But in now week are matchups more important than Week 16. It’s a one-week season all its own.

So with that in mind (and my heartfelt wishes to all for a safe and happy holiday season), let’s get down to business.

QUARTERBACKS

STOCK UP: Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints: Brees put quite a scare into fantasy owners with duds in Week 13 and Week 14, but if you survived that rough patch Brees rewarded your patience with Week 15’s top fantasy performance under center. Championship Week brings a plus matchup at home against the Buccaneers.

STOCK DOWN: Brock Osweiler, Houston Texans: I’m well aware that no fantasy owner on the face of the Earth will be rolling out Osweiler in a title game – because the Texans finally benched him. But if nothing else this affords me the column space to mention that DeAndre Hopkins might actually be able to help teams in Week 16.

STOCK UP: Matt Moore, Miami Dolphins: All Moore did in Week 15 was toss four touchdown passes despite attempting only 18 passes against the New York Jets. Starting him in Week 16 straddles the line between brave and crazy, but the Bills rank in the top half of the league in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks over the last month.

STOCK DOWN: Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs are a good football team, last week’s loss to the Tennessee Titans notwithstanding. And Alex Smith is a fine quarterback by NFL standards. But last week’s meh statistical performance by Smith isn’t his first this year – and Smith and the Chiefs draw a Denver defense that stymied Tom Brady in Week 15.

RUNNING BACKS

STOCK UP: Jay Ajayi, Miami Dolphins: Ajayi went over 1,000 rushing yards for the season last week against the Jets, but he hasn’t topped 100 yards on the ground since Week 9. There’s a good chance that dry spell ends against the Bills. All Ajayi did the last time the teams met was roll up 214 rushing yards and score a touchdown.

STOCK DOWN: Kenneth Dixon, Baltimore Ravens: Every time it looks like the Baltimore backfield is settling into a discernible pattern John Harbaugh shakes it like a snow globe. Don’t ruin your Christmas Day by trusting either Dixon or Terrence West against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think Harbaugh is doing it on purpose.

STOCK UP: Bilal Powell, New York Jets: Sometimes, in order to get over the hump in a title game, you need that one player you never expected would carry you to paydirt. Powell could be that player in 2016 – as the Jets clear lead back at this point he could be in for a ton of garbage time dump-offs against the New England Patriots.

STOCK DOWN: Kenneth Farrow, San Diego Chargers: Farrow could have been that out of nowhere hero, especially with the Cleveland Browns on tap for the Chargers in Week 16. There’s only one problem with that storybook ending – Farrow was absolutely awful in last week’s loss to the Oakland Raiders.

WIDE RECEIVERS

STOCK UP: Robby Anderson, New York Jets: In proof that the Apocalypse has to be close, this is the second Jets player to make a positive appearance in this column this week. Say what you will about that, but the fact is the undrafted rookie has been a consistent producer since Bryce Petty took over at quarterback. Garbage time here we come!

STOCK DOWN: Tyler Boyd, Cincinnati Bengals: Boyd had been a decent PPR option with AJ Green on the shelf, but last week’s two catch, 13-yard effort sent his bandwagon right into the ditch. With Green looking more likely to play in Week 16 and Boyd clearly behind LaFell on the target totem pole he’s waiver wire fodder in redraft leagues.

STOCK UP: Brandin Cooks, New Orleans Saints: Cooks was a monster for fantasy owners in Week 15, reeling in seven passes for 186 yards and two scores. The huge outing put Cooks over 1,000 yards for the season, and while he didn’t roast the Buccaneers to that extent a couple of weeks ago he posted double-digit fantasy points in PPR formats.

STOCK DOWN: Amari Cooper, Oakland Raiders: Stop me if you’ve heard this story before, but just like in 2015 Cooper is pulling a disappearing act in the fantasy playoffs. Blame Derek Carr’s finger. Blame the cooling weather. Blame Scrooge. Whatever. But benching Cooper despite a favorable matchup this week isn’t crazy talk.

TIGHT ENDS

STOCK UP: Charles Clay, Buffalo Bills: Clay had his best game of the season in Week 15, making seven catches for 72 yards and scoring a touchdown for the second straight week. Add in a Week 16 matchup with a Dolphins

team that’s eighth in fantasy points allowed to tight ends, and you have the makings of some Secret Santa action.

STOCK DOWN: Jimmy Graham, Seattle Seahawks: Graham’s been solid for fantasy owners this year, and his return from a torn patellar tendon is a great story. But as Tyler Lockett has picked up steam late in the season Graham has cooled off. This week Graham draws an Arizona Cardinals team that’s dead last in fantasy points allowed to tight ends.

STOCK UP: Every Tight End, San Diego Chargers: Clay’s big day came against the Cleveland Santas, who have been delivering gifts to opposing tight ends all season long. No team in the AFC has allowed as many fantasy points to the position in 2016 by a double-digit margin. Both Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry are on the streaming radar in Week 16.

STOCK DOWN: The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Whoville Whos: The Grinch has used his 7’6” frame and physicality to bully defenders all season long, but his playing status is in doubt for Christmas Eve. Apparently he suffered some sort of myocardial injury that caused his heart to grow three sizes. It may be from eating too much roast beast.

The Red Zone: Week 16Thomas Casale

Passing

Matt Ryan, Falcons – Ryan wasn’t even drafted in over 50 percent of fantasy leagues this year. How did that turn out? Ryan is fourth in red zone attempts (82) and his 18 touchdowns ranks third with two games to go. The most surprising part of Ryan’s success is Julio Jones has only been targeted six times in the red zone this season. Ryan is this year’s fantasy MVP. He went from undrafted in many leagues to Top 5 in fantasy points.

Cam Newton, Panthers – Unlike Ryan, Newton was drafted. As a matter of fact, he was the top quarterback selected in most fantasy leagues this year. As Newton owners know, he was getting benched for other options like Dak Prescott and Marcus Mariota at one point during the year. One of Newton’s issues came in the red zone where he threw only 10 touchdowns. To put that in perspective, that’s the same number of red zone touchdown passes as Brock Osweiler. Newton will look to rebound in 2017.

Rushing

LeGarrette Blount, Patriots – Remember back in the summer when a report came out that Blount might get cut? Fantasy owners would probably be better served to stay off Twitter for the month of August. Blount is leading the NFL in red zone rushing attempts (50), touchdowns (13) and he’s second in yards (127). It’s safe to say Blount’s roster spot is secure next season.

Todd Gurley, Rams – There are a few candidates for Fantasy Bust of the Year but Gurley probably wins the award. Gurley scored just three red zone touchdowns this year playing on one of the worst offenses in the NFL. There is a silver lining for Gurley though. First, if you suffered all year with Gurley, you may actually think about starting him in your Fantasy Super Bowls. The 49ers are the last ranked rush defense by a mile and just gave up three touchdowns to Devonta Freeman. Second, the Rams are likely to make a splash with their next coaching hire, so Gurley is primed to bounce back in 2017.

Receiving – WR

Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals – Fitzgerald is tied for fourth in the NFL with 18 red zone targets. However, he’s only caught three touchdown passes. That’s an odd stat for Fitzgerald who is one of the best red zone receivers in the league. Carson Palmer has struggled with accuracy all season and that’s hurt Fitzgerald’s red zone efficiency. There’s a good chance another quarterback is throwing to Fitz next year.

Amari Cooper, Raiders – One of the most amazing stats of the 2016 season is Cooper hasn’t scored a red zone touchdown in 14 games. He’s been targeted 12 times. Michael Crabtree and Seth Roberts

Page 6: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

have a combined 10 touchdowns on 39 targets. Derek Carr has spread the ball around this year, especially in the red zone. It’s been good for the first-place Raiders but not so much for Cooper owners.

Receiving – TE

Hunter Henry, Chargers – Rookie tight ends don’t normally make much of a fantasy impact but Henry dominated in the red zone this season. He caught 9-of-15 targets and scored six touchdowns. The Chargers future is up in the air but with Antonio Gates’ career winding down, Henry will be an every-week TE1 next season.

Coby Fleener, Saints – Fleener was an average fantasy tight end in Indianapolis when he played with Andrew Luck. When he came to New Orleans, owners drooled over Fleener’s potential output because of how often Drew Brees targets tight ends. Heck, he made Benjamin Watson relevant. Fleener caught a whopping two red zone touchdowns. Congratulations to Fleener. He’s now failed with two elite NFL quarterbacks.

THE DAILY PLANET BY TODD COLBURN

The Daily Planet – Week 16By Todd Colburn

We’re obviously getting to the end of the season. No messing around. We’ve got just two weeks to make hay in our daily fantasy leagues, so the stakes are high to make this the best week ever. Week 15 presented some bizarre outcomes, with a number of QBs in particular messing the fantasy bed. It was a frustrating week, especially when several of our other calls went as predicted. But there are some great matchups this week, and there are several teams hungry for the playoffs. There are also several teams that are ready to check out and turn in their equipment for the year. We’re ending on a high note, folks, so dig in with me and explore the players who will bring the points this week.

BYES in Week 16: None

VEGAS-SOURCING

Vegas-sourcing is the term I use for the strategy of using the knowledge of the wise guys to inform your daily fantasy decisions. Each week you’ll want to build a base of information around the matchups. Vegas bookmakers have an uncanny ability to project what teams are going to put up on the scoreboard. The over/unders and the spread give you a free look at what the experts think each team is going to produce. So instead of “crowdsourcing,” we present: “Vegas-sourcing.” You just extrapolate the projected points scored by a team by looking at the Over/Unders and cross-referencing the spreads. Keep in mind that the numbers all change throughout the week, so don’t get too worked up if the line has moved based on what you see below. The takeaway is the same whether Vegas is projecting 28 or 29 points scored by a team at different points throughout the week.

High Scorers: New England 30 Low Scorers: San Francisco 18.25Oakland 28.75 Minnesota 18Tampa Bay 27.75 Arizona 17.5Atlanta 27.25 Denver 17Seattle 25.5 NY Jets 13.5

Notable: Tennessee 24.25Cincinnati 19.5Detroit 18.5

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 8 www.FantasySharks.com

Once again, the names at the top of our list are the usual suspects. You’ll pardon me if I curse the Oakland offense, who doesn’t feel like a top option after Derek Carr and Amari Cooper combined for zero fantasy points or something like that. It’s hard to hop back up on that horse, but they are home against Indianapolis. Incidentally, in six road games since October, Indy is averaging over 31 points per game. I think this will be a big shootout and there will probably be nothing but winners in this contest (for fantasy). In the bottom five, we find Arizona, who tried to convince us last week that their offense was good again. Their 41 points notwithstanding, don’t be sucked in this week. They are toxic in Week 16 with a road matchup against Seattle. I think Tennessee is interesting this week, in that this could be a blowout. Jacksonville always seems to play teams tough, but who are they playing for at this point? Doug Marrone? I think this game gets out of hand quickly. I like the Titans to outperform their number, and Marcus Mariota to return to his lucrative numbers after struggling through some tough opponents. Stay away from Cincinnati, now that their Super Bowl has come and gone, and they are now on the outside looking in. Nothing to play for there, not even a compelling opponent.

WEEK 16 VALUE PLAYS

DEFENSE: Defense is where I usually like to steal some value. You can usually find some nice inefficiencies in pricing on defense. I will often start my roster construction with defense, looking for the best relative value, with an emphasis on low price. Some weeks, the matchup compels you to take the high-priced options, but I like to spend my money elsewhere.

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryTennessee $3400 San Diego $4900San Diego $3400 NY Giants $4800NY Giants $3300 Kansas City $4700Buffalo $3100 Pittsburgh $4500Dallas $2800 Houston $4500

Like, I’m sure, everyone in fantasy football, I love New England DST this week. It has all the makings of an ugly blowout, and I expect that they have the greatest upside of all teams. You just have to pony up for them. There are more economical options with less upside, but definitely some diamonds in the rough. I like Tennessee on DK at that price, where they are relative higher priced on FD. The NY Giants are a very solid against a fading Philadelphia team. And San Diego gets the ubiquitous “Cleveland Bump.”

QUARTERBACK: Normally I like to pay up for the best QB options, as they are such a big source of points. This week is no exception, as some of the highest-priced players project to score big this

Page 9: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

weekend (I’m looking at you, Drew Brees). But if you want to go big at another position, here are some values for you to consider:

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryDerek Carr $6800 Matt Ryan $8100Aaron Rodgers $6700 Derek Carr $8100Jameis Winston $6500 Jameis Winston $8000Marcus Mariota $6000 Marcus Mariota $7800Dak Prescott $5900 Dak Prescott $7800

In the spirit of “no messing around this week,” I might be going high-end at QB this week. But where I need value, I’m looking at Marcus Mariota. His value is depressed after a BYE week and then playing Denver and Kansas City. People have forgotten the tear that he was on against weaker teams mid-season. Well, prepare for another offensive outburst against Jacksonville. By the way, you’ll never see Aaron Rodgers at $6,000 on DK ever again, I’m not sure why he has the 8th highest salary. On FD, Matt Ryan has a lower-than-usual salary this week, if you aren’t scared of the Carolina defense. If you’re nervous about the New Orleans matchup for Jameis Winston, don’t be. The Week 14 game was an outlier – this will not end 16-11 with Winston throwing zero TDs again. I expect the opposite. Look for Winston to have a big day.

RUNNING BACK: Normally, I’m looking for value at RB and paying up for top WRs. These last few weeks though, I have found it harder and harder to find value at RB. I’m starting to pay up for the top RBs and then looking for value at WR. With so many roles in question, it’s hard to justify going too deep into the bargain bin, but here are some guys outside of the top tier to consider:

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryTy Montgomery $5900 LeGarrette Blount $7200Carlos Hyde $5800 Doug Martin $7000LeGarrette Blount $5600 Spencer Ware $6500Spencer Ware $5300 Ty Montgomery $6300Thomas Rawls $5100 Thomas Rawls $6200

Valuations continue to be really tough for RBs, with all the guys you want to pick huddled up at the top of the salary pool. I love LeSean McCoy again this week, but he’s expensive. Same for DeMarco Murray. But I think LeGarrette Blount will be the top dog outside of the Top 10 salaries this week. If Kansas City wants to beat Denver this week, the formula will be 19 touches again for Spencer Ware. Thomas Rawls is coming off of a 23-touch performance, and he’ll get the ball plenty in this next game as well. Since TDs are so unpredictable, you have to go where the touches will be.

Page 10: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 10 www.FantasySharks.com

WIDE RECEIVER: Most weeks, my plan will be to max out the wide receiver position. I’ll try to get top guys for their reliability. With RB being so tight right now, I really want to find some good value at one, maybe two WR positions. Here are some options for Week 16:

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryDez Bryant $6500 Julian Edelman $6700Michael Crabtree $6100 DeAndre Hopkins $6600DeAndre Hopkins $5200 Allen Robinson $5600Tyler Lockett $4800 Ted Ginn, Jr. $4800Ted Ginn, Jr. $4500 Tyler Lockett $4700

.Let’s start with my co-value picks of the week: First, Tyler Lockett has gotten into the endzone twice in the last three weeks, and Patrick Peterson will be locking down Doug Baldwin. Lockett blew up last week, and it could happen again this week, now that Russell Wilson has shown the confidence to target him 9 times in a game. Second, Ted Ginn, Jr. has scored four of the last five weeks! Get this man in your lineup, and shame on me for not seeing it sooner! DeAndre Hopkins sure looked rejuvenated once Tom Savage became his QB. Houston is winning the division and have to keep pressing the throttle to the floor to stay ahead of Tennessee. Julian Edelman has a very low salary on FD this week, and I love all things New England in this game.

TIGHT END: I’m going extreme on TE most of the time. Either it’s Gronk or Delanie Walker if the numbers work out right (I find multiple bargains at other positions), or I might be punting TE. That said, punting TE doesn’t mean you put a can of corn out there. You can get a quality contributor for cheap. Here are some options:

DraftKings Salary FanDuel SalaryTravis Kelce $5000 Delanie Walker $6400Kyle Rudolph $4900 Kyle Rudolph $6000Delanie Walker $4300 Zach Ertz $5800Cameron Brate $3900 Cameron Brate $5600Jason Witten $3400 Jason Witten $4900

Let me start by saying that the targeting/catches Zach Ertz is getting is ridiculous. The fact that he has the 9th highest salary in FD is a gift. Receive it. Delanie Walker’s value is depressed, concurrent with Marcus Mariota’s “cooling off” period. As you recall, I don’t see this as a permanent trend. This is the week they turn things around, and I see Walker with serious upside this week (and a high floor, for that matter). His salary is solid on both sites. Also noteworthy is the degree to which Dak Prescott has been going after Jason Witten lately. 10 catches ALONE will snag you some points on DK (full PPR). With 17 targets in the last two weeks, perhaps you can see Witten as a high floor guy in Week 16, if you choose to punt TE.

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 12 www.FantasySharks.com

ASSUME THE POSITION BY BILL AQUAVIVA

ASSUME THE POSITION: Week 16

Tom Savage replaces Brock Osweiler as the Texans’ QB, making Blake Bortles the worst starting QB left in the league (with Fitzpatrick and now Osweiler benched), Ryan Succop is better the second time around, Philip Rivers continues to lose games with his INTs, and Adrian Peterson’s return was as lame as the entire Vikings team’s performance. Davante Adams’ not one, but two dropped TDs likely cost someone a trip to their fantasy Superbowl, but Ty Montgomery’s 2 TDs ( and huge yardage) likely propelled someone to their fantasy Superbowl, and Dallas’ dynamic rookie duo bounced back nicely. Devonta Freeman and LeSean McCoy did what they were supposed to do, Ryan Matthews and Matt Moore exceeded what they were supposed to do, but Antonio Brown did nowhere near what he was supposed to do. The fantasy playoffs are in full swing and although matchups are a good tool to use in your decision-making, there’s always going to be players who underperform as well as those sneaky players who steal points from you - I’m talking to you Robert Turbin, Kerwynn Williams, Tim Hightower, and Derrick Henry.

The weekly Assume The Position article takes a look at some of the great matchups (“Money in the Bank”), good matchups (“Safe Bets”) and bad matchups (“Rolling the Dice”), and we give you one player at each position (QB, RB, WR and TE) that we’ve identified for that respective performance (great, good or bad), taking into account the player’s offensive capabilities as well as the defensive matchup they’re facing. And remember, a bad matchup is not a suggestion to bench a player; that decision depends on your roster and who you have available to replace that player, it’s just a caution for you to review and consider and check for a better alternative. If you don’t have a better alternative you should stick with that player.

MONEY IN THE BANK (Great Matchup)

Philip Rivers – QB, San Diego Chargers (@ CLE)

Can Philip Rivers actually play a game without throwing an INT? Maybe...just maybe, this week he will. Rivers, 8th in the league in passing YPG and 4th in the league in passing TDs also leads the league in INTS with 18. But this week he takes on the winless Cleveland Browns who give up the third most fantasy points to QBs, including the most TDs and maybe more importantly, just 8 INTs all year. This matchup promises to be fruitful for Rivers, if you’re gutsy enough to play him with a fantasy Superbowl berth on the line.

Todd Gurley – RB, Los Angeles Rams (vs. SF)

Gurley is averaging just 56 YPG rushing and has just 5 rushing TDs this year, but there are several reasons to be high on the young RB this week. First, he’s playing the 49ers who have the 32nd ranked

Page 13: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 13 www.FantasySharks.com

run defense in the league. Second, he’s playing the 49ers who give up the most fantasy points to RBs in the league. Third, he’s playing the 49ers who give up the most rushing yards and rushing TDs to RBs in the league. And fourth, he’s playing the 49ers, who give up the most 20+ yard run plays as well as the most 40+ yard run plays in the league. Need any more proof that this is a great matchup? How about Jeff Fisher is no longer coaching the Rams? Or that Chip Kelly is still coaching the 49ers? I mean, these all show the great matchup Gurley has this week.

Stefon Diggs – WR, Minnesota Vikings (@ GB)

Who? Yes, “that” Stefon Diggs. The one from the Vikings...you know, the team that has arguably the worst offense in the league. He is nursing a sore hip and Diggs hasn’t passed 60 yards receiving in 4 straight games and hasn’t scored a TD since week 8, but this week he faces the Packers, and likely does so without having to share targets with Adam Thielen (injured). The Packers are the 27th ranked pass defense in the league, get torched by almost everyone through the air, give up the most fantasy points and the most receiving TDs to WRs in the league and allow the 5th most receiving yards to WRs. This is a great matchup for Diggs and could result in a resurrection of fantasy points for you.

Ryan Griffin – TE, Houston Texans (vs. CIN)

Griffin filled in for injured C.J. Fiedorowicz last week and had a great game, hauling in 8 catches for 85 yards. His chemistry with backup QB, and newly named starter, Tom Savage, was great and there’s lots of expectation for that to continue this week against one of the worst defenses for covering TEs. The Bengals have the 12th ranked pass defense in the NFL, but against TEs they allow the 3rd most fantasy points, the 3rd most receptions, the 2nd most receiving yards and the 6th most receiving TDs to TEs. Fiedorowicz might be back from his concussion this week but this matchup looks too good to pass up. Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle (Chron.com) reported that “Griffin had good chemistry with backup quarterback Tom Savage, who looked to him frequently after replacing starter Brock Osweiler.” and Griffin commented "I played like I practiced, go out there and make some catches. Tommy put the ball right on me with the timing. So, it felt good out there.” It might continue to feel good this week as well.

SAFE BETS (Good Matchup)

Tom Brady – QB, New England Patriots (vs. NYJ)

Last week I had Brady as a bad matchup against the Broncos and it definitely ended up being a bad day for him (50% completion, just 188 yards and no scores to go along with 2 sacks and 2 fumbles). Well this week Brady should be back with a favorable matchup against a sinking fast New York Jets team. The Jets give up the 12th most passing yards, the 4th most passing TDs and the 16th most fantasy points to QBs. Middle of the pack in fantasy points to QBs doesn’t sound so bad but this team has been self-destructing recently and Brady owns the Jets (with or without Rex Ryan), and this week should be no different.

Weekly Report Page 14 www.FantasySharks.com

Doug Martin – RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@ NO)

Martin struggled mightily against the Cowboys and their #1 ranked run defense last week, breaking a 2 week streak of scoring a TD. This week the tables flip and instead of facing a top 5 run defense he gets to take on a bottom 5 run defense. New Orleans gives up just 100 YPG on the ground but their 20 TDs to RBs are the second most in the league, which results in them allowing the third most fantasy points to RBs. Martin’s 53 YPG and 3 TDs on the season are certainly a concern but this matchup is too good to ignore and cbssports.com acknowledges that “Martin has still been a featured player in an improving offense and will look to bounce back next week against the Saints.”

Odell Beckham, Jr. – WR, New York Giants (@ PHI)

OBJ seems to have his temper under control over the past month or so. He also is still making ridiculous catches and bailing Eli out of even more mistakes than usual. This week, Beckham brings his 84 YPG, 85 receptions, 10 TDs, and league leading six 40+ yard plays to Philly for a Thursday Night primetime game and the matchup couldn’t be better for him. The Eagles have the 12th ranked pass defense, which is pretty decent, but against WRs they give up the second most yards, the 6th most TDs and the 3rd most fantasy points...which is not pretty decent.

Jason Witten – TE, Dallas Cowboys (vs. DET)

Witten only has 2 TDs this year, and until last week he, like the rest of the Dallas passing game, was struggling, but after a 10 catch performance last week he should be back on track. And not many things could be a better sight for Witten owners than a matchup with the Detroit Lions this week. Detroit’s pass defense is average, 15th in the NFL, but against TEs, Detroit struggles “bigly”, as Trump would say. The Lions allow the 4th most catches, the 3rd most TDs and the 4th most fantasy points to opposing TEs, which makes this a potentially big game for Witten (finally).

ROLLING THE DICE (Bad Matchup)

Carson Palmer – QB, Arizona Cardinals (@ SEA)

Palmer comes into this game with five straight weeks of at least 2 passing TDs per game and fresh off a very productive game against the Saints, but this week’s matchup does not bode well for him. The Seahawks pass defense is ranked 7th in the league and they are giving up the 5th fewest fantasy points to QBs, including just 14 TDs, the 3rd fewest in the league.

Le’Veon Bell – RB, Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. BAL)

Bell had a decent game last week against Cincinnati and finished with 93 yards rushing and 131 all purpose yards but didn’t score. He only has 6 rushing TDs and only 1 receiving score this year so the end zone has not been his friend, and this week he takes on the #2 ranked run defense of the Baltimore Ravens that has only given up 5 rushing TDs all year - 3rd best in the NFL. Baltimore also allows the second fewest fantasy points to RBs and just 82 YPG on the ground. Yes, Baltimore got pretty abused

Page 15: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

on the ground last week, which dropped them from the best run defense to the second best run defense statistically, but this is still an ugly matchup for Bell.

Tyreek Hill – WR, Kansas City Chiefs (vs. DEN)

The explosive and exciting Tyreek Hill has certainly given a boost to lots of teams, not so much with his yardage (only 39 YPG), but with his receptions and TDs across all positions (rushing, receiving and returning). As Christian D'Andrea of sbnation.com claims, “Tyreek Hill has developed into Kansas City’s most dynamic scoring threat.” D’Andrea also shared from @NFLResearch, that “The @Chiefs Tyreek Hill has 6 touchdowns this season of 25+ yards. (T-most in the NFL this season with @KSTiLLS).” While he may be exciting to watch for those one or two explosive plays per game, and his TDs are always a welcome addition to your weekly total, this week’s matchup looks to be pretty ugly for the youngster. Denver is the leader across the board in all passing defense stats that count. They are the #1 pass defense in the NFL, and give up the fewest receiving yards, catches, TDs and fantasy points to WRs.

Jimmy Graham – TE, Seattle Seahawks (vs. ARI)

Graham may once again be a top 5 TE in the NFL this year, but this is a horrible time for his toughest matchup of the season to occur. Despite what Drew Brees did to them (like he does to everyone) last week, the Cardinals have a solid pass defense. Arizona is ranked 5th in the NFL in pass defense, and even tougher on TEs. The give up the second fewest receptions, the least yards, the fewest TDs (just 1 all year) and the fewest fantasy points (3 per game) to TEs. Talk about bad matchups.

FLEX APPEAL BY MICHAEL NEASE

Flex Appeal —Week 16By: Mike Nease, Senior Writer

As we wind the season down I just want to mention a couple of things. Next week we will feature an article on the art of drafting in regards to filling that flex spot in your lineup. This will be my last Flex Appeal article and I am trying to think of the transition from writing to retirement.

Speaking of that transition, I wanted to mention this in regards to keeping the fantasy football party alive after my retirement:

Last night I had a brainstorm. With my pending retirement from fantasy football writing, what I will miss the most is my interaction with readers and my fellow writers. As I was writing player comments last night it hit me.

We need a Facebook discussion group. So come one, come all. Join us at the new Couch Tomatoes. Indicate you want to join and I will get you setup.

I automatically put a bunch of friends in there already. If you are in it and want to opt out, let me know.

We will get the thing working now and see what diverse directions we go in. One rule basically--keep it clean and do not be mean.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/330237687362965/

This week I have listed only high grade options. This is not a week to take a flier on someone like Jermaine Gresham or Justin Forsett so I have left that sort of option off of this report.

Have a Merry Christmas, or Hanukkah.

My goal each and every week is to help you fill that wild card slot in your lineup, the flex position, with some viable, practical solutions.

In a typical fantasy football lineup we have one position dedicated to a flex player, that being an extra RB, WR, or TE. Many people just take a lower tier RB or WR and slap them into the lineup. Following that haphazard strategy can cost you games on a regular ongoing basis.

Page 17: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 17 www.FantasySharks.com

You can turn the challenging flex position in your lineup into one of strength, rather than an afterthought. Typically the selection pool here in a 12-team league includes those players ranked beyond RB24, WR36 and TE12. I will use several rankings sources to obtain a healthy consensus.

Marriage Material

This could be either an available free agent pickup, or a player you already have on your roster that you would take home to meet your folks. This is a likely keeper that you can use more often than not throughout the rest of the season. He has a flair for consistency and the ability to light up the scoreboard with big numbers some weeks.

RB Justin Forsett, Den

Justin Forsett’s 2016 journey has taken him to Denver where he is getting enough action to make him a viable flex option for your lineup. He has averaged 7.9 FPPG over the last two weeks while compiling a modest 16-54-0///7-34-0 stat line.

Look for Forsett to be good for about 7-8 FP against the Chiefs.

WR Sterling Shepard, NYG

With Odell Beckham getting all the attention, Sterling Shepherd has been continuing his rookie development over the last three games, averaging 11.1 FPPG in that time span. That was built with an 11-116-2 stat line.

In his first game against the Eagles this year Shepherd had 14 FP. He should get you about 11-12 FP in Week 16 in Philadelphia...

WR Marvin Jones, Det

After being missing from the scoring column much of the season, Marvin Jones is back to fantasy viable status. Over the last two games he has averaged 8.9 FPPG and he has had a 7-108- 0 stat line.

Expect Jones to get you about 7-8 FP in Week 16 against the Cowboys in Dallas.

WR Rishard Matthews, Ten

Over the course of the 2016 season, Rishard Matthews has moved steadily up the depth chart to become the #1 WR on the Titans. With a 5-131-0 stat line and a 9 FPPG average over the last two weeks, he has been the mark on consistency all year. He does not have a big upside, but he does have a high floor scoring wise. He has scored in double digits in 9 of the last 11 games.

Look for him to be good for 9-10 fantasy points this week against the Jaguars in Jacksonville.

WR Steve Smith, Bal

Page 18: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 18 www.FantasySharks.com

Steve Smith has an explosive temper, yet we seldom hear much about him anymore. Over the last three games he has averaged 11 FPPG and had a 12-150-1 stat line. In four previous games against the Steelers he has averaged 10 FPPG.

Expect Smith to be good for about 10-11 FP against the Steelers in Pittsburgh this week.

TE Charles Clay, Buf

Quick-play him while he is healthy. For years I have though Charles Clay had super potential. Then he gets hurt and is in and out of the lineup for weeks on end. Over the last two weeks he has averaged 17 FPPG and in those two games he has a 10-124-2 stat line.

In the Rex Ryan Save My Job Bowl, look for a solid 9-10 points from Clay as the Bills play the Dolphins.

Love ‘em and Leave ‘em

A player here has some flex appeal, but you really only want him because of a favorable matchup this week. You will likely see some red warning flags as you approach. A background check may alert you to injury risks, his coach may favor someone else that is not even suiting up this week, etc., etc. But hey, you don’t want to consider marriage. A one week stand is all you need him for now. But over the long-haul, maybe, just maybe he could fit the bill for something long-term.

None

Last Call

The bar is closing and you are so, so desperate. We have all been there at one time or another. A wasted draft choice is a scratch once again. Who can I add to my roster? Here we will give you a guy to start. He won’t be great and very seldom will he be even good. But this week this mutt of a player will give you at least something from the flex position.

None

Adrian Balboa

To Rocky, she was the greatest, prettiest woman in the world. To the rest of us with discerning tastes perhaps not so much. In fantasy football there are players like that available all the time. While others are running away from a player and completely overlooking them is the time for you to swoop in and snap them up.

And there you have it—the Week 16 Flex player recommendations. When you look at your lineup, view it as a combination of players designed to give you enough points not only to win this week, but enough to win each and every week and ultimately to win the league championship.

So, one more time—work hard each week to have the strongest lineup possible. Use your judgment to maximize your points based on the players you have. Work the waiver wire and seek out trades to give you the strongest roster you can have. Always outwork your opponents and keep building your team from week to week, even as the end of the regular season draws closer.

Good luck! Have fun!

The Blitz

TEAM DEFENSE

Here’s what we think we know heading into Week 16: The Patriots defense/special teams (D/ST) took advantage of an inexperienced Trevor Siemian last week and may get the chance to do so this week should Bryce Petty be able to start for the Jets. Even if he doesn’t I still like the Pats as the top D/ST because that will likely mean a turnover prone Ryan Fitzpatrick under center…The Titans make a rare top-5 appearance in the rankings because we always chase Blake Bortles. The secondary should get a pick or two against a team that just fired their head coach and has a very shaky offense in general. The Cowboys rank just outside the top-10 (13th) and could easily outperform that position. They get DE Randy Gregory back this week and he’ll join a pass rush led by David Irving that’s racked up 10 sacks in the last three games. The Detroit Lions offensive line can be beat off the edge so big plays are very possible this week for Dallas…If you feel like swinging for the fence this week then roll out the San Francisco 49ers against the Rams. In the last three games Los Angeles has allowed 11 sacks while turning the ball over seven times and giving up a pair of defensive scores. This should ne a nice week for rookie DE DeForest Buckner and the entire 49ers defense…Let’s steer clear of a Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST that has been hot over the last month. The Saints offense at home is an animal we do not want to mess with.

Less Than 90% Owned Standout Team Defenses for Week 16*:

*Ownership information based on ESPN Standard Leagues

San Diego (@ Cleveland) – 50% owned. The Robert Griffin III Browns led offense is not exactly working out. In his three starts Griffin III has yet to reach 200-yards passing or throw a touchdown pass. He does have two rushing scores but has thrown two picks this season. The Chargers rely on the big play having forced 27 turnovers and four D/ST touchdowns on the season. There will be plenty of big play opportunities this week.

Page 21: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 21 www.FantasySharks.com

Dallas (vs. Detroit)- 27% owned. The Lions simply have no running game and have to rely on quarterback Matthew Stafford to deliver weekly come back victories. That plan didn’t work out last week in New York and is unlikely to get it done this week at Dallas. Over the last three weeks the Cowboys have put up 10 sacks and forced eight turnovers. It appears that DE Randy Gregory will return from suspension this week and that will bolster the already red hot pass rush. The trio of David Irving, Benson Mayowa and Gregory will be too much for the Lions offensive line to handle this week.

BONUS PICK: Tennessee (@ Jacksonville) – 19% owned. This one is really quite simple and you’ve heard it many times before here. Always chase Blake Bortles. Bortles threw his 16th interception of the season last week and has now turned the ball over 20 times. We like that.

Downside Team Defenses for Week 16:

Baltimore (@ Pittsburgh) – 82% owned. The Steelers offense is a different animal when playing at home. More specifically Ben Roethlisberger is a much better quarterback when playing at home. He has thrown 17 touchdown passes when enjoying that home cooking and only nine when on the road. The Steelers average 310 passing yards per game at home as opposed to 226 when on the road. You see where I’m going with this right? The Steelers are at home this week so I avoid the Ravens defense.

Minnesota (@ Green Bay) – 90% owned. I was more that a little surprised to see that 90% of owners still trust the Vikings after their pitiful performance against the Colts last week. They allowed 34-points with over 400-yards of total offense while failing to register a sack or turnover. This looks a unit that is worn out after carrying the team for most of the season. There’s no way I can trust this unit on the road against a resurgent Green Bay Packers offense.

INDIVIDUAL DEFENSIVE PLAYERS

Let’s take a look at the IDP landscape heading into Week 16: I have three Seattle Seahawks defensive linemen ranked in the top-30 this week as I like the matchup at home with the Cardinals. In the first meeting between the teams Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril and Frank Clark combined for 12 total tackles and four sacks…Bears DE Akiem Hicks hot been on a roll over the last three weeks racking up 12 solo stops with three sacks and a forced fumble. I see another big day on tap against a Redskins offense that’s allowed four sacks to the defensive line position in the last three games…After a huge Week 14 (10 solos and two sacks) DeForest Buckner took a dip last week but has a great matchup to have a bounce back week. The Rams have been ravaged by defensive linemen over the last three games allowing 10 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles to the position…Kiko Alonso has the best chance to outperform his ranking (21st) this week in a juicy matchup with the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are giving up an average of 20 solo tackles per game to linebackers over their last three games…A couple of names to keep in mind that rank just outside my top-30 are Mason Foster and Martrell Spaight of the Washington Redskins. The Bears are going to feature a heavy dose of Jordan Howard this week and there will be tackle opportunities aplenty. Spaight played in place of the injured Will Compton last week so monitor practice reports out of Washington this week…A nice ‘swing for the fences’ play that’s also just outside my top-30 is DeAndre Levy. His snaps increased from 18 two

Page 22: Fantasy Insights Weekly Report 2002 - Fantasy Football Web view · 2016-12-22Fantasy Sharks VIP Weekly Report. December 21, 201623 ... FGM. XPA. XPM. PTS. PK. Robbie ... New York

weeks ago to 30 last week in a game where he posted eight solo stops. I’d have him inside the top-30 if we were sure the snaps would jump again. Even if they don’t he has a great matchup against a Dallas offense that will be riding Ezekiel Elliott…The Saints have been very generous in handing out fantasy points to the defensive back position of late. Over the last five games they have given up 125 solo tackles and seven interceptions to the position. That’s the reason that both Bradley McDougald and Keith Tandy land inside the top-25 in this week’s ranings. In the first meeting between the teams the duo combined for 14 tackles with four passes defended and an interception…Both Byron Jones and Barry Church of the Cowboys are nice starts this week against a Detroit offense that struggles to run the ball but still offers up nice tackle opportunities to defensive backs. In their last three games the Lions have allowed 75 solo tackles to defensive backs. They’ve also given up three interceptions and a forced fumble to the position…While his overall 2016 performance has been disappointing Corey Graham of the Bills is my outside the top-30 sneaky good play of the week. Graham had one of his better games back in Week 7 against the Dolphins posting seven solo tackles along with three passes defended. The Dolphins have allowed 53 solo tackles to defensive backs in the last three games and more importantly five interceptions. Graham has the chance for above average tackle numbers as well as a big play or two.

Banged Up: Here are the primary concerns this week.

DL- The Rams placed Robert Quinn on IR to his concussion issue…Demarcus Lawrence continues to deal with a back injury that forced him to miss Week 15. We will need to keep an eye on practice reports out of Dallas this week. Lawrence’s teammate Randy Gregory is on track to play after serving his suspension…The Raiders are hopeful that DE Mario Edwards be ready to roll after missing extended time with a hip issue…Derek Wolfe is considered day-to-day with a neck injury but expected to play this week…Arthur Jones is done for the season with a groin injury…William Gholston is expected to miss this week with an elbow injury…Michael Bennett is expected to play this week despite suffering a neck injury last week…Stephon Tuitt was forced out of last week’s game with a sprained knee but is expected to try and play this week. Keep an eye on the game day inactive list to make sure Tuitt suits up.

LB- The Broncos were without Brandon Marshall (hamstring) in Week 15 and he is iffy to be ready for this week…Nick Bellore has been placed on IR with an elbow injury…It’s not injury related but Jerrell Freeman of the Bears is eligible to return from suspension this week…After a week of full week of practice Luke Kuechly sat out Week 15 due to his concussion. There is the real possibility that the Panthers decide to shut down Kuechly for the season. I do not currently have Kuechly ranked but if he does play then get him in the lineup…Stephone Anthony has been placed on IR with a knee injury…Will Compton missed Week 15 with a knee injury so we’ll need to keep an eye on his status throughout the week as to his availability this week…Justin Houston is missing practice with swelling in his knee but still expected to play…Ryan Kerrigan suffered a sprained elbow last week but was able to return to the game.

DB- Kemal Ishmael is done for the season with a shoulder injury…Janoris Jenkins took a knee to the back and was knocked out of last week’s game. He is iffy to play this week on Thursday night…Greg Toler is in the league protocol for concussions…Jimmie Ward has been placed on IR with a broken collar bone…Trae Waynes has returned to practice after missing time due to a concussion…

Darius Slay of the Lions is dealing with a hamstring issue and is unlikely to be ready for Week 16. Detroit plays Monday night so he will have a little extra time to rehab but remains a long shot to play…Byron Maxwell is dealing with an ankle injury and may miss Week 16.

Free Agent Thoughts: In what is championship weekend in many leagues these are the players we feel may be available and able to help IDP owners bring home the title. As expected the pickings are slim by the time Week 16 rolls around.

Defensive LinemenWilliam Hayes Quinn is done for season. Had 6 tackles and a sack last week.Randy Gregory Is done with suspension and will have fresh legs to pass rush.Linval Joseph We like any DL that puts up double-digit tackles. Had 13 last week.Denico Autry Boom/bust big play potential in great matchup this week.

LinebackersPernell McPhee Put up 2 sacks last week and we like big play potential.Jerrell Freeman May be out there and is done with suspension. 3-down role on tap.Sio Moore Seeing lots of snaps with Bucannon out in a nearly full time role.Michael Wilhoite Big uptick in snaps with Bellore done for the season.Martrell Spaight Big role die to injures and had 11 solos in Week 15 for Washington.

Defensive BacksDashon Goldson Just signed and may see some snaps for Falcons with Ishmael out.Quintin Demps 14 solos in last 4 games and had an interception last week.Ron Parker With Johnson out has more tackle opportunities. Had 9 solos last week.

NEW YORK GIANTS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Shane Vereen (triceps)

The New York Giants offense still isn’t traveling well. New York has scored more than 20 points in a road venue just once. It was against the Cleveland Browns in Week 12 (27 points). The Philadelphia Eagles defense plays far better at home, but this stop unit is still struggling, especially against the pass. The Big Blue ground game usually disappears outside of MetLife Stadium, so don’t expect big things from the Rashad Jennings/Paul Perkins combo against an Eagles defense that ranks 13th in fantasy points allowed to the running back position. Philadelphia, however, has surrendered the third-most fantasy points to wideouts, so the must-start Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard are the best plays. Eli Manning has struggled away from home this season, so keep your expectations for him in check. The elite Giants team defense is a solid starting option.

Previous matchup: In Week 9, the Giants downed the Eagles 28-23 at MetLife Stadium.

In that game, Eli Manning passed for 257 yards and four touchdowns.

Rashad Jennings amassed an 11-26-0 rushing line and a 3-13-0 receiving line.

Paul Perkins compiled an 11-32-0 rushing lie and a 3-15-0 receiving line.

Odell Beckham hauled in four passes for 46 yards and two scores.

Sterling Shepard caught three passes for 50 yards and one touchdown.

Reserve wideout Roger Lewis caught a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Will Tye made four grabs for 33 yards.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES INJURIES TO MONITOR: Darren Sproles (concussion), Jordan Matthews (ankle),

Dorial Green-Beckham (back)

Struggling rookie Carson Wentz doesn’t deserve all the blame for the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive issues, but his inability to generate a consistent passing attack – Wentz has tossed multiple touchdown passes in just one of his last 10 games – is clearly on him. It’s fair to point out that Wentz doesn’t have enough trustworthy targets. His best wideout, Jordan Matthews, likely will draw shadow coverage from Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. If the work-in-progress Dorial Green-Beckham plays, he’ll be limited due to a back injury. Nelson Agholor, who hasn’t scored this season, still seems completely lost in the offense. Look for Wentz to lean on Zach Ertz. He’ll do some damage against a New York Giants defense that ranks just 20th in fantasy points allowed to the tight end position. Since Kenjon Barner has joined Wendell Smallwood on Injured Reserve, Ryan Matthews and Darren Sproles will handle the bulk of the backfield duties. However, New York ranks ninth in fantasy points ceded to tailbacks.

It looks like the Buffalo Bills defense is still playing hard even though the Bills won’t make the playoffs and rumors about head coach Rex Ryan’s job security continue to swirl. Don’t go overboard with your expectations for the Miami Dolphins fantasy stars because the Buffalo defense is much better than the New York Jets stop unit that Miami gutted last Saturday night. Since only Tom Brady and Russell Wilson have tossed more than two touchdown passes in clashes with the Bills, don’t expect the still risky Matt Moore to light it up again. Even though Buffalo ranks eighth in fantasy points allowed to the wideout position, Jarvis Landry looks like the safest Miami receiver to start. In Week 7, speedy Kenny Stills gashed the Bills for 100 yards and one touchdown, so he’s the most likely wideout to score. DeVante Parker continues to play through injuries, and his production continues to suffer. Jay Ajayi will make some noise against a Buffalo defense that has yielded the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing runners, but his big-yardage games from earlier in the season now look very fluky.

BUFFALO BILLS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Sammy Watkins (foot)

Although the Buffalo Bills won’t make the playoffs and head coach Rex Ryan likely will be shown the door after the regular season wraps up, this team is still giving a solid effort. A Miami Dolphins defense that ranks 13th in fantasy points allowed to the running back position has been much softer in road venues, so LeSean McCoy is a lock for a nice game. Goal-line specialist Mike Gillislee, who has scored in four of his last six contests, has a good chance to hit pay dirt at least once. Success on the ground usually means less throwing from Tyrod Taylor, and that will happen here. Miami has yielded the 11th-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends, so Charles Clay has a good chance to extend his scoring streak to three games. The Bills wideouts, however, shouldn’t be trusted. The Buffalo team defense is a solid starting option.

NEW YORK JETS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Bryce Petty (chest), Matt Forte (knee)

The reeling New York Jets have lost five of their last six games, and they completely collapsed last Saturday night. Since this team apparently has packed it in for 2016, New York fantasy stars are very risky plays in a road matchup against a New England Patriots team that loves to pound weak opponents. With Matt Forte banged up and limited (even if you’re desperate don’t start him), Bilal Powell, one of the few Jets who is still playing hard, deserves starting consideration because of his heavy three-down use with Bryce Petty under center. Petty, by the way, was expected to start even though he took that nasty sandwich hit from Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh last Saturday night. Petty’s favorite target, Robby Anderson, who has either scored or racked up 90-plus receiving yards in three straight games, is worth a desperation start. However, New England probably knows that Anderson is Petty’s top target.

If your New England Patriots fantasy stars disappointed you last week, they’re going to make it up to you in this matchup versus a New York Jets defense that is just going through the motions. Yes, New York probably start the game off strong, but this stop unit will implode at some point before the final gun like it has in every contest during the last few weeks. Tom Brady and Julian Edelman are must-start options, and Malcolm Mitchell, who gashed the Jets for two scores in Week 12, is a solid play. Since Chris Hogan is down in the pecking order behind Edelman and Mitchell, Hogan comes with more boom-or-bust risk. Martellus Bennett has scored just once in his last nine games. Since New York has slipped to 16th in fantasy points allowed to the running back position, LeGarrette Blount is a solid start. Dion Lewis’ role has expanded, and James White has been receiving a much smaller workload (close to half a dozen touches per game in the last three weeks). The Patriots team defense is a starting option.

TENNESSEE TITANS INJURIES TO MONITOR: None

The declining 2-12 Jacksonville Jaguars are playing their first game under interim head coach Doug Marrone, but he’s obviously not going to be able to turn things around. The Jaguars are playing far worse than they did during their Week 8 clash with the Tennessee Titans, which Tennessee won 36-22. Don’t worry about sagging Jacksonville’s defensive numbers here. DeMarco Murray, Delanie Walker and Rishard Matthews are all solid starts. Derrick Henry, who has hit pay dirt in two of his last three games, has a good chance to score since the Titans ground game will dominate. That’s why you should expect just moderate yardage from Marcus Mariota. Tajae Sharpe, with just four receptions in his last three games, has hit the rookie wall. The Tennessee team defense is a solid streaming option against a Jaguars offense led by turnover machine Blake Bortles.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Allen Hurns (hamstring), Neal Sterling (concussion)

Interim head coach Doug Marrone isn’t going to be able to jumpstart an offense that has absolutely collapsed after a promising showing last year. The Tennessee Titans have yielded the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and the fourth-most fantasy points to the wideout position, respectively, but Blake Bortles isn’t playing well enough to exploit the leaky Tennessee secondary. The touchdown that we’ve projected for Allen Robinson could just as easily go to Marqise Lee. Robinson hasn’t scored or amassed more than 32 yards in a game since Week 11, and Lee’s production has been up and down during the last month. Allen Hurns may return, but Hurns was playing poorly before his multi-game injury layoff. The Titans have yielded the fourth-fewest fantasy points to running backs, so Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon are obviously weak plays.

INJURIES TO MONITOR: Adrian Peterson (knee), Stefon Diggs (hip), Adam Thielen (neck)

The Green Bay Packers defense has been playing a lot better at home because it has been getting healthier. Adrian Peterson is clearly not 100 percent recovered from knee surgery and shouldn’t be trusted in starting lineups against a Packers defense that ranks 10th in fantasy points allowed to the running back position. Goal-line guy Matt Asiata remains touchdown dependent. Since the Vikings won’t be able to run the ball (what else is new?), passing-down back Jerick McKinnon, who hauled in a season-high nine passes last week, deserves flex consideration in PPR leagues. The Green Bay defense looked terrible on the road against the Chicago Bears last week, but the Packers have yielded just four touchdown passes in their last four home games, which is obviously bad news for the Vikings’ usually anemic Sam Bradford-led aerial attack. There’s more bad news: Stefon Diggs (hip) looked iffy to play. Adam Thielen’s status also was in question. If Diggs sits, Thielen (if he plays) and Kyle Rudolph would both be heavily targeted. Green Bay remains suspect against tight ends. It’s hard to trust the Vikings team defense after its Week 15 collapse.

GREEN BAY PACKERS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Aaron Rodgers (calf), James Starks (concussion)

The Minnesota Vikings defense won’t play as poorly as it did last week, but Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson and Ty Montgomery should be entrenched in starting lineups. Minnesota hasn’t allowed an enemy quarterback to toss more than two touchdown passes in a game all season, so Rodgers should throw for at least two scores with moderate yardage. Even though Vikings No. 1 cornerback Xavier Rhodes matches up naturally on Nelson, he won’t see Rhodes the entire game since the Packers move their wideouts around. Nelson has either scored or racked up 90-plus yards in eight straight games. Montgomery has taken control of the Green Bay backfield. Davante Adams’ production has been wildly up and down during the last month, so he comes with risk. Randall Cobb posted a bagel last week and continues to struggle. He’s not a reliable option. Jared Cook could surprise against a Vikings defense that ranks close to average in fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends, but he’s a dice roll as usual. The Green Bay team defense is a starting option.

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Melvin Gordon (hip, knee), Tyrell Williams (shoulder)

Unless the weather becomes a factor, Philip Rivers, Tyrell Williams, Dontrelle Inman and Antonio Gates are all solid starts against what we all know is the worst defense in the NFL. Williams will rebound from his dud Week 15 outing, and Inman, who is usually a safe play, has scored in three of his last four contests. Deep-threat Travis Benjamin, who hit pay dirt last week, probably will want to stick it to his former team, so I like his chances to score. Gates is two touchdowns short of tying Tony Gonzalez’s NFL record for most scoring grabs by a tight end. Melvin Gordon wasn’t expected to play, so the mediocre-at-best Kenneth Farrow deserves consideration against a Cleveland Browns defense that has surrendered the second-most fantasy points to running backs. The Chargers team defense is a starting option.

CLEVELAND BROWNS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Terrelle Pryor (finger)

Looking for some fantasy diamonds in the rough here? The pickings are very slim. Robert Griffin III has rushed for a score in two straight games. However, he hasn’t tossed any touchdown passes and continues to crush the value of Terrelle Pryor, who is expected to draw coverage from Casey Hayward. The San Diego Chargers defense has surrendered eight rushing touchdowns in its last seven road contests, but Isaiah Crowell hasn’t hit pay dirt since Week 8. WASHINGTON INJURIES TO MONITOR: Jordan Reed (shoulder)

Look for a solid bounce-back performance from a Washington offensive unit that is much better than it looked Monday night. The Chicago Bears defense has been getting gashed on the ground lately (the Green Bay Packers ran for 207 yards last week), so this is a great matchup for Rob Kelley. However, the Bears remain solid overall versus the pass. Chicago has yielded only five touchdown passes in its last seven home contests. With the ground game clicking, Kirk Cousins won’t have to light it up. Anything more than two touchdown passes would be a surprise. Even though the Bears have been successfully containing No. 1 wideouts most weeks, the red-hot DeSean Jackson still looks like a safe play. Since Jordan Reed is still banged up (don’t start him), Jamison Crowder is the most likely candidate for Cousins’ second scoring strike. The consistent Pierre Garcon is usually good for at least four or five catches per contest. Chicago ranks ninth in fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends, so Vernon Davis is a weak play.

CHICAGO BEARS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Marquess Wilson (groin)

The strength of the Chicago Bears offense – and its safest fantasy play – is still three-down workhorse Jordan Howard. He’s a strong start against a Washington defense that has coughed up the fourth-most fantasy points to the running back position. Matt Barkley has been serviceable in his four starts. He has sandwiched two dud outings in between two efforts with 300-plus yards and multiple touchdown passes, and Barkley has played his best at home. Since Washington has been soft against the pass in road venues, Barkley is actually a solid start on paper. Josh Norman is expected to shadow Alshon Jeffery, which will depress his numbers. Cameron Meredith is starting to flash some chemistry with Barkley, so Meredith, with Jeffery facing tough coverage, is the most likely Chicago wideout to score. Deonte Thompson is coming off a 100-yard game and continues to pop up on Barkley’s radar. Washington has been super weak against tight ends, but Daniel Brown has done very little and shouldn’t be trusted.

On paper this is a Matt Ryan game. The Carolina Panthers have allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to the running back position and haven’t allowed a visiting runner to score, but Devonta Freeman will still cobble together an okay outing thanks to his usually high workload. He has a decent chance to score through the air. Tevin Coleman’s yardage numbers have been soft since he returned from an injury layoff in Week 11. Since his chances of scoring in this matchup aren’t very good, Coleman doesn’t have much starter appeal. At last check, Julio Jones was expected to return, and he’d obviously be a must-start. Taylor “Mr. Touchdown” Gabriel, who has scored at least once in six of his last seven games, deserves regular starting consideration. Gabriel has averaged six targets per game in the last three weeks. Mohamed Sanu is a hit-or-miss fantasy WR4 play who is more likely to miss. Although the Panthers have coughed up the second-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends, it’s hard to recommend the struggling and banged-up Austin Hooper.

CAROLINA PANTHERS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Kelvin Benjamin (shoulder)

The Carolina Panthers’ playoff hopes went up in smoke weeks ago, but the team is still playing hard. Cam Newton is still productive even though he’s playing with a bum throwing shoulder. Newton is a strong play against an Atlanta Falcons defense that has hemorrhaged the most fantasy points to enemy passers. With a very banged-up Kelvin Benjamin struggling (he hasn’t caught more than two passes in a game since Week 11), Ted Ginn has been operating as the team’s unofficial No. 1 wideout. The speedy Ginn, however, remains a touchdown dependent boom-or-bust fantasy WR3. Devin Funchess and Corey Brown remain too unreliable to trust. Since Greg Olsen has racked up at least 85 yards in two straight games, it’s safe to assume that he and Newton are back on the same page. Since Atlanta has yielded the sixth-most fantasy points to tailbacks, this looks like a Jonathan Stewart game.

The Oakland Raiders have been tougher against the pass in recent weeks, especially at home. Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton should be in starting lineups, but dial down your expectations for them. We didn’t project for Donte Moncrief. If he plays, Moncrief likely will be limited. This makes him a boom-or-bust fantasy WR4 option versus a Raiders defense that ranks 17th in fantasy points ceded to wideouts. The Colts continue to use a rotation at tight end with Dwayne Allen operating as the main blocker while Jack Doyle has been operating as the primary pass catcher. Doyle draws a nice matchup against a Raiders defense that has coughed up the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends, but he’s a risky start. Oakland also has yielded the ninth-most fantasy points to the tailback position. Frank Gore looks like a solid RB2 plays thanks to his usual high volume of touches, but he has lost four rushing scores to goal-line guy Robert Turbin in the last five weeks.

Since the Indianapolis Colts defense excels at covering wideouts – the Colts have yielded the ninth-fewest fantasy points to the position – look for the Oakland Raiders to go run heavy with Latavius Murray. Indianapolis has yielded the 10th-most fantasy points to tailbacks, so this matchup obviously looks great for Murray. He will score once and has upside for a second end-zone visit. Even though Derek Carr’s wideouts will face solid coverage, he still looks like a moderate play. Colts No. 1 cornerback Vontae Davis is expected to shadow Michael Crabtree, who usually doesn’t rack up big numbers in home contests. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS INJURIES TO MONITOR: None

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense isn’t going to have the same success containing Drew Brees and company that it did back in Week 14. In other words, Jameis Winston is going to have to let it rip, but he doesn’t have enough weapons to compete in a scoring contest with New Orleans. Winston still looks like a moderate play with an upside for a bigger outing. Mike Evans is a must-start, and Cameron Brate is a solid play against a Saints defense that ranks close to average in fantasy points allowed to enemy tight ends. The other Buccaneers receivers are dice rolls. Even though the Saints have yielded the third-most fantasy points to opposing tailbacks, they are stiffer against the run at home. On top of that, Doug Martin has averaged just 2.8 yards per carry since he returned from an injury layoff in Week 10. Don’t expect a big game from Martin. Charles Sims’ role remains small.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Mark Ingram (toe), Michael Thomas (foot)

We all know that 99 percent of the time, Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints offense plays lights out at home. Don’t expect a repeat of the low-scoring Week 14 slugfest between the Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the fast track of the Superdome. Brees, Brandin Cooks and Michael Thomas obviously should be in stating lineups. Willie Snead has amassed at least 75 receiving yards in two straight games and deserves flex consideration against a Tampa Bay defense that ranks 18th in fantasy points allowed to the wideout position. The New Orleans backfield remains a three-man operation with Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower and Travaris Cadet. Since Ingram is the lead early-down runner, he’s the best bet for a rushing score versus a Buccaneers defense that has been soft against the run in road contests. Hightower, however, is a risky touchdown-dependent flex in deeper leagues, and passing-catching specialist Cadet has flex value only in deep PPR leagues.

Look for the Seattle Seahawks defense to smother an Arizona Cardinals offense that hasn’t played particularly well on the road. The 5-8-1 Cardinals, by the way, are already thinking about next year. Nevertheless, David Johnson remains a must-start. He’ll see a very heavy workload, because Carson Palmer and his wideouts won’t be able to do much. Palmer didn’t throw a touchdown pass against Seattle at home in Week 7, so it’s doubtful that he will in this rematch. While Larry Fitzgerald is

The Arizona Cardinals defense hasn’t played well in road contests all season. The Cardinals gave up 48 points to the New Orleans Saints at University of Phoenix Stadium last week, so it’s fair to assume that 5-8-1 Arizona has thrown in the towel on the 2016 season. Thomas Rawls, Doug Baldwin, Jimmy Graham and Russell Wilson are all solid plays. Since Rawls will have a nice game, look for just moderate numbers from Wilson, Baldwin and Graham. The passing attack won’t have to do too much, which makes Tyler Lockett a very risky start. The Seattle team defense is a strong play.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS INJURIES TO MONITOR: Torrey Smith (concussion)

Since your playoff fantasy team probably isn’t loaded down with San Francisco 49ers, I’m not going to waste your time with a bunch of analysis. Carlos Hyde remains the only productive and reliable fantasy option here against a Los Angeles Rams defense that ranks 17th in fantasy points allowed to enemy tailbacks. Colin Kaepernick is always a threat for junk-time production, but do you really want to gamble with him in your starting lineup with a championship on the line? The unreliable San Francisco receiver corps looks very thin due to injuries.

Kenny Britt, the favorite target of Jared Goff, also deserves starting consideration against a super leaky 49ers secondary. Brian Quick and Tavon Austin could surprise, but they’re both too risky.

(knee)

Even with the help of A.J. Green, who, at last check, was expected to return, it’s going to be tough sledding for the struggling Cincinnati Bengals offense against a Houston Texans defense that has surrendered only seven touchdowns in its last six home games. The Texans rank in the top five in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback, wideout and tight end positions, respectively, so Green, Andy Dalton, Brandon LaFell and Tyler Eifert all look like weak starts. Green is the most likely receiver to score for obvious reasons. Jeremy Hill, assuming he plays, will cobble together a decent outing against a Houston defense that ranks just 19th in fantasy points ceded to tailbacks.

‘Twas the night before Christmas at NRG Stadium, Brock Osweiler wasn’t stirring, because he had been benched for Tom Savage. The 2014 fourth-round selection will be making his first career regular-season start, and Savage has spent three years in head coach Bill O’Brien’s system. Savage obviously isn’t a fantasy option, but he helped pull DeAndre Hopkins off the fantasy scrap heap against the Jacksonville Jaguars while filling in for Osweiler last week. Fifteen of Hopkins’ season-high 17 targets in that game came from Savage. Is it safe to start Hopkins again? The Cincinnati Bengals defense ranks fifth in fantasy points ceded to the wideout position, but Hopkins should deliver a solid outing thanks to a high volume of looks. Savage also targeted his tight ends frequently, which bodes well for C.J. Fiedorowicz against a Cincinnati defense that has coughed up the third-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Will Fuller, however, is a dart throw fantasy WR4. Assuming Lamar Miller is reasonably healthy, he’s a solid play versus a Bengals defense that ranks 18th in fantasy points allowed to tailbacks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense is much tougher at Heinz Field, and the Baltimore Ravens offense scored only 14 points on the Steelers at M&T Bank Stadium back in Week 9 (Baltimore also scored on a blocked punt). Don’t expect a lot of yards and points. Pittsburgh has yielded the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing tailbacks, but Terrance West and Kenneth Dixon have been operating in an unpredictable timeshare. Consider them both risky flex options. The Steelers rank sixth and third in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback and wideout positions, respectively, so look for moderate-at-best production from Joe Flacco, Steve Smith and Mike Wallace. While Wallace probably wants to show up his former team once again, don’t gamble on him having a big revenge game. Dennis Pitta is usually good for a few catches and 30-40 receiving yards per game.

DENVER BRONCOS INJURIES TO MONITOR: A.J. Derby (concussion), Virgil Hill (concussion)

The Kansas City Chiefs defense has been far more dominant at home, and the Denver Broncos offense continues to decline. Even though the Chiefs rank just 20th in fantasy points allowed to enemy tailbacks, the badly struggling tandem of Justin Forsett and Devontae Booker shouldn’t be trusted in starting lineups. It’s also very hard to see Trevor Siemian duplicating the big passing effort from his Week 12 clash with Kansas City (368 passing yards and three touchdowns) in this venue. Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas, the only two fantasy relevant receivers in this offense, deserve starting consideration thanks to their typically high number of targets, but don’t expect monster outings from either one. The Broncos team defense is a starting option.

Previous matchup: In Week 12, the Chiefs nipped the Broncos 30-27 (OT) at Mile High Stadium.

In that contest, Trevor Siemian threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns.

Devontae Booker compiled a 24-79-0 rushing line and a 1-22-0 receiving line.

Emmanuel Sanders reeled in seven catches for 162 yards and one touchdown.

Demaryius Thomas caught five balls for 60 yards.

Bennie Fowler made one grab for 76 yards and one touchdown.

A.J. Derby made four grabs for 43 yards.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS INJURIES TO MONITOR: None

Everybody knows the Denver Broncos defense is a brick wall against the pass. The Broncos have surrendered the fewest fantasy points to the quarterback and wideout positions, respectively, so Alex Smith and Jeremy Maclin obviously are both weak plays. The explosive Tyreek Hill scored twice against Denver back in Week 12, but the Broncos surely won’t let him get loose again. Travis Kelce gutted the Broncos for 8-101-0 in that Week 12 clash. He’s the best bet for a score on paper, but Kelce hasn’t hit pay dirt since Week 8. Things also set up well on paper for Spencer Ware against a Denver defense that ranks just 22nd in fantasy points allowed to opposing tailbacks. However, Ware hasn’t rushed for more than 70 yards in a game since Week 7, and he scored just once in the last two months. Ware could surprise, but he’ll probably disappoint again. The Chiefs team defense is a starting option.

Fantasy Sharks 2016 Season

Weekly Report Page 82 www.FantasySharks.com

The Dallas Cowboys defense has been rock solid versus the run all season, allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to the tailback position. Even if passing-down specialist Theo Riddick returns, he would be a weak play. Don’t expect much from plodding runners Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner, who will see more action if Riddick stays on the injury shelf. Dallas ranks close to average in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback and wideout positions, respectively, which is how Detroit will attack. Matthew Stafford has tossed multiple scoring strikes in just one game in the last five weeks, but he should do well here. Stafford’s top target, Golden Tate, is a strong play. Anquan Boldin has a decent chance to score but don’t expect big yardage from him as usual. Marvin Jones hasn’t compiled more than 41 yards in a game since Week 4. The Cowboys have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to tight ends, but Eric Ebron has been only marginally effective lately due to a knee injury.

DALLAS COWBOYS INJURIES TO MONITOR: None

The Detroit Lions defense is one of the tougher stop units that the Dallas Cowboys will face. The Lions have yielded the fifth-fewest fantasy points and only three rushing touchdowns to opposing tailbacks, but Ezekiel Elliott remains a must-start. He’s a safe play at home, and Elliott’s monster-game upside is always there. The Lions have surrendered the ninth-most fantasy points to the quarterback position, but Dak Prescott doesn’t operate a pass-heavy offense. He has tossed just one touchdown pass in four straight outings. Look for a typically moderate fantasy outing from Prescott. Even though Detroit ranks 14th in fantasy points ceded to the wideout position, Dez Bryant is still a solid start and the only safe play among the Cowboys receivers. Cole Beasley hasn’t scored since Week 11 and usually compiles 40-something or 50-something yards per game. If Dallas needs extra help from its passing game, Jason Witten could make some noise against a Lions defense that has surrendered the fifth-most fantasy points to tight ends.
