Jubilee Year of MercyAugust 28, 2016Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time“Alms atone for sins” (Sirach 2:29). Alms are mercy trans-lated into hands-on compas-sion. Jesus confirms Sirach’s wisdom, “Blessed are the mer-ciful, for they will be shown mercy” (Matthew 5:7). “Conduct your affairs with humility” (Sirach 3:17). Humility: we’re all alike and special, for we’re children of God. Jesus con-firms that wisdom, too: “Do not recline at table in the place of honor. Take the lowest place” (Luke 14:8, 10). In fact, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite friends, rela-tives, wealthy neighbors. Invite the poor, crip-pled, lame, blind,” physically or figuratively, society’s most vulnerable and marginalized, “who cannot repay you” (see 14:12–14). Jesus seems to be telling us to prepare for eternity with God’s chosen by becoming their friend here and now. Mercy is measured not by our delight in welcoming those we like most or who can repay us best, but by sincerely em-bracing those we like least, who cannot repay us at all. Utter humility inspires pure mercy; pure mercy leads to eternal joy.

Año Jubilar de la Misericordia28 de agosto de 2016Vigésimo Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario“En tus asuntos procede con humildad” (Eclesiástico 3:17). Humildad: todos somos pareci-dos y únicos por que somos hijos de Dios. Jesús nos da una explicación de lo que es tener humildad “no te sientes en el lugar principal... ocupa el último lugar” (Lucas 14:8, 10). De hecho “cuando des una comida o una cena, no invites a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a los vecinos ricos;... Invita a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los cojos y a los ciegos” física o sim-bólicamente, los más vulnerables y marginados de la sociedad “por que ellos no tienen con qué pagarte” (ver 14:12–14). Parece que Jesús está por decirnos que nos preparemos para la eternidad con los elegidos de Dios haciéndonos su amigo aquí y ahora. La misericordia no se mide por el placer de ser anfitriones de quienes mejor nos pueden devolver el favor de una invitación, sino por aceptar sinceramente la compañía de aquellas personas que no nos caen bien, de quien no podrían devolvernos el favor de una invitación. Una completa humildad inspira misericordia pura y una misericordia pura nos guía a una alegría eterna.

Where is the Religious Education Of-fice? - Now that RE has ended, many are having a hard time figuring out how to get to the RE Office. Please come to the back of the new addition to the Religious Education Building. There is a single door there with a door bell. Ring the bell during posted RE Office hours and we will let you in and be happy to assist you. Please see map for more details.

Catechist, Catechist Aides & RE Volunteers! Praise God our community and Parish is growing and we will be able to share our faith with so many parish children & youth. Please consider answering the call to serve and share your faith with our parish Religious Education Program. We are needing help filling volunteer positions for our Monday and Wednesday 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm sessions. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please contact the RE Office. Religious Education will begin in September. We are also needing a few Catechist for our Adult Education Sacramental Sessions. ADULT FAITH FORMATIONAre you wanting to learn more about our faith? Are you just sitting in your car waiting for your kids to get out of religious education classes? Take that leap of faith because we have something for you. We are excited to announce this years’ theme for the Adult Faith Forma-tion classes. We will be studying Revelation. In this intriguing look at one of the most talked-about books in Scripture, Jeff Cavins explores Revelation to demonstrate how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven, especially through the celebration of the Mass.
You will learn what all the mysterious figures and images of Revela-tion present, as well as what will happen during the Second Coming of Christ, what has already happened, and what is happening now in salvation history.
This is open to everyone come join us for Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come beginning when Religious Education starts on September 18, 19, or 20th and continuing every week for 11-weeks. For more in-formation or to register for this study, call Erik Diaz at 512-312-2520 extension 137.
Adult Faith Sacramental Sessions - will start on Monday, October 3rd. These sessions will run from 7:00-8:30PM for 8 weeks. These sessions will prepare any adult 18 years [who is out of HS] and/or older to celebrate the sacraments of First Communion and/or Confirmation or both. I-35 Corridor ProjectSanta Cruz Parish along with other churches in the area of the I-35 Corridor between San Antonio and Austin are participating in a project to better under-stand the issues that the families of our communities are experiencing in their daily lives. We have all witnessed the rapid changes that have taken place in this region over the past 20 years, changes that have created new pressures that affect our families. This project will train people of our parish to go into our community and engage all families around the challenges that they face: issues such as the dramatic growth of our communities, increased juvenile delinquency, issues that affect access to quality education and affordable health care, among others. Those who participate in the project will be trained to organize the people of the community to work together as neighbors through the church to identify these issues, develop effective solutions and work with public officials to address them. This project has the full support of Bishop Vazquez and will be similar to Austin Interfaith in Austin and Communities Organized for Public Service in San Antonio. Ramon Duran is the organizer who is working with Father and other pastors in the region. Participating churches are Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, and Unitarian in Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Seguin. We have held four informa-tion sessions and will schedule two more to give everyone a chance to attend. These will be held September 6 (English) and September 7 (Spanish). Proyecto - Ruta del I-35La Parroquia de Santa Cruz, con otras Iglesias en el área entre San Antonio y Austin, está participando en un proyecto para mejor entender los asuntos que afectan el bienestar de las familias de nuestras comunidades. Todos somos testigos de los cambios rápidos que han ocurrido en los últimos veinte años, cambios que han creado nuevas presiones que enfrentan a las comunidades. Este proyecto entrenará a gente de nuestra parroquia para entablar conversaciones con las familias de la comunidad y poder entender los asuntos que nos enfrentan, por ejemplo, el crecimiento rápido de las comunidades, la delincuencia juvenil, acceso a educación. Los que participan el en proyecto se van entrenar como organizar la gente de las vecindades y desarrollar soluciones que puedan llevar a los oficiales públicos. Este proyecto tiene el apoyo completo de Obispo Vázquez. Ramón duran es el organizador que trabajara con el Padre y otros pastores en la región. Otras Iglesias que están participando incluyen Católicos, Metodistas, Luteranas, Bautistas, y Unitarias. Hemos tenido 4 sesiones de información y vamos a programar dos más: el 6 de septiembre (Ingles) y el 7 de septiembre (Español).
