Long agoIn one of the ten Auromainias worlds called VenthrosThere lived a great king called Merlin

Ruler over the entire realmAnd the most powerful sorcerer of all the land

Upon his arrival on Earthanar he realized that the only living creatures onThe world were dragonsAll of which possessed incredible powers, and no sense or

IntelligenceSeeing there senseless violence he raised his staff and granted them intelligence,

thinking that this would solve their battlesBut he was badly mistaken

At first, the dragons got on with their livesBuilding homes and civilizationsBut then it happenedThe dragons divided themselves into clansSplitting land, and each wanted what the other had until the fighting grew worseOnly this time they were smartWhen Merlin was finally able to stop them he took away their intelligence butthey still fought, so he took their wings as punishment, and left them to return tohis home world.But alas, his interference had made them begin to destroy not only themselves,

but the world in which they livedKnowing the ancient law by which they lived he recited it to himself as heprepared for what he had to do:That if one world is destroyed, so too shall the other nine perish in its wake ofdarkness and despair, untying the string that binds them together.

And with that he released a spell, shooting a ball of rock and fire to kill them all.Then he started from scratch, making something new, humans.

And that was his biggest mistake yet.They fought and grew more intelligent everyday, until the world was over run

with machines driving them further and further away from their true selves untilthey forgot everything about the other worlds.

As his final ounce of power was banished from his body, the punishment of

causing death to an entire race of species,He sent out a command, imploring all creatures to never enter the tenth world again, as hisdying wish they agreed it would be left alone, forever.

Squinting and covering her yellow\brown eyes in an attempt to shield herself fromthe early morning rays of the bright sun, all of which now assaulted her retinas,Annar got to her feet and glanced over at her friend who lay sprawled out on a redand black beanbag, a thin fleece blanket covering up to her shoulders where thebeginning of a black T-shirt could be seen over the slightly tanned honey colouredskin, cans and sweet packets covering the floor in front, showing the late night

effects of DR. Pepper, chocolate buttons and a game cube.Wake up Tiff, come on Im gonna be lateOpening her eyes, the girl blinked unresponsively at her friendUmm? Yea what?Rolling her eyes, and blowing her straight black hair out of her eyes, the girl repliedin a frustrated toneWere going to miss the bus if you dont get your lazy butt out of bed!

Throwing off the covers and flicking her medium length brown hair out of her darkbrown eyes, Tiffany sat up groaningCrap, I forgot that you go to school.Gee thanks, Im not as lucky as you, and were the same age and all.Not true, Im a few months older.

Tiffany stated matter-of-factly, grinning as she got to her feet revealing her red andblack T-shirt, black trousers with chains hanging off the loops and a pair of stripyblack and grey socks, which she thought much too elf-like for everyday use, althoughshe wore them none the less.

Reaching for a pair of black and white converse shoes, Tiffany put them on andhastily tied the laces, then nodded at her friendOk, lets get goingLooking at what little floor was left showing, the two girls hurdled the mess off Buffyvideos and gothic clothing that had become Tiffanys bedroom and then ran out thedoor.

Ok the bus leaves at twelve to and its only ten to now soThats too far! We cant make that!Yea we can, besides were in England, when do the buses ever turn up on time?Annar chuckled as they kept on walking getting faster as they tried to reach the busstop on time until they simultaneously broke out into a run.

Feeling as if someone had taken a match to the back of her throat as she desperatelyfought the swimming feeling inside her head and struggled to gain air, TiffanycomplainedOk I... am officially tired...Leaning next to her against a wall opposite the bus stop, Annar nodded shakily inagreement.Yea me tooWhats the betting that the stupid bus wont come on time after that?!Shaking her head, Annar grimacedWe shouldnt have gone to bed so late what time was it anyway?

Tiffany groanedabout five-ish?Laughing, she continued

see now this is why I like home-edd, go to bed as late as you want and still havetime to lie inSmiling sarcastically, Annar then turned towards the road just as the bus wasrounding the corner.So Ill see you after school?

Kinda, but I can meet you in town Ill get the bus with you now; I havent hadbreakfast and my mum needs milk anywayCool.Annar grinned and held out a bus pass to the driver, who didnt seem to notice

Tiffany get on behind her.Sitting on the seats closest to the back the friends stared out the window as the bus

pulled away from its stop.

Talking and laughing as they watched the clouds and houses fly passed in the goldensun light, Annar asked.So, dont you ever miss this?What?You know, taking a bus to school, laughing with a big bunch of friends, having yourknowledge tested, anything?

Tiffany laughedThat cage? No, they start you learning at four and by five they expect you to beable to recite the entire Shakespearean plays, besides you hate it almost as much asme. Shrugging, Annar pointed outTrue, but thats because I go, do you know any kid that actually likes their school?Chuckling, Tiffany returned to her window gazing until the bus came to a halt in frontof a large grey building with spikes protruding from a fence around it.Well this is my stopAnnar stated getting to her feet, following suit as they got off the bus, Tiffanyshivered looking up at the school towering above themIm sure schools were based on prisons.See yaAnnar laughed as she walked through the gatesYea, see ya.Tiffany responded as she began to follow the road down hill until the school was out

of sight.

The path kept a straight line as it slowly headed down into a field,She knew it very well as her mother used to lead her this way when she was little, itended up in town but first it lead you on a winding fifteen minute walk through a fieldand across a motorway then there was an under pass that ended you up in the towncentre.

Walking next to the hedges, gently running her hand along the leaves as she went,Tiffany smiled at her mellow surroundings.

Thump!having reached the bottom of the road, Tiffany spun around in alarm, at thebeginning of the field she had heard a dull thud behind her, like a horse trudgingthrough mud but without the hooves, she had heard it earlier but decided to pay itlittle attention, however, hearing it for the third time, Tiffany was beginning to getspooked, there were quite a few bushes and trees dotted around the field so Tiffany

expected that if something wanted to follow her it would not be too hard to do so.Becoming lighter on her feet, stepping with care making almost no sound as theconverse shoes made contact with the mud and grass, Tiffany attempted to hearover her own shaky breathing, becoming aware of another sound.A rasping breath, although knowing that there was nothing was behind her, she couldnot ignore the creeping sensation down her back and neck to turn around thatconstantly made her want to throw her back against a wall and run.Breathing heavier, as her mind went through an unhelpful list of what could bemaking the sounds and its motives, Tiffany closed her eyes, her heart started

pounding against her chest, her throat was so dry, she couldnt take it anymore,realising that the enemy you know is a lot better than the enemy you dont know, shespun around, fists balled tight and yelledall right! Come on! Show yourself!Staring at the open field, her eyes flicked between the many bushes that lined herpath.

But nothing made itself apparent, sighing; she turned around, more on edge nowthan at first, and was about to start walking again when suddenly she had a massiveshiver down her spine urging her to turn around, spinning on her heels the girlscreamed.Staring at what looked like a massive, thin furred, rabid dog, towering above her onits hind legs, its eyes glowing yellow with fangs to match, its grey, brown short furexposing its rib cage.Falling backwards, Tiffany rolled aside as its gigantic clawed paw came crashingdown on the ground where she had been only seconds ago.Lifting its curved paw the beast revealed a huge hole in the ground then it turnedand roared, its foul hot breath crashing into her face making Tiffany cringe,

Then it stood again and lunged at her, screaming, Tiffany leaped up, barely missingits claws that was when one of the weirdest things about it became apparent, itshands, not paws, hands, covered in fur with big black talons protruding from thecurved fingers, she tried to scream but her lungs were trapped with air and it was allshe could do now just to breath, dodging a third time, the girl was too slow and itsblack claws grazed her cheek.crying out in pain, tears stinging her eyes, Tiffany watched as it stopped and rearedup ready to attack once more, then Tiffany started thinking clearly, her survivalinstincts kicking in, and she ran.

Jumping over long grass, tripping occasionally and gaining speed every second,Tiffany ran faster than she ever had done before, but it still wasnt enough, she couldhear the creatures massive clawed paws pummelling the ground as it gallopedtowards her, heart racing, adrenalin pumping through her, Tiffany racked her braintrying desperately to find some way out of this nightmare, but the only thing thatcame to mind was what the hell was that creature? And why was it trying to kill her?beginning to run out of breath, knees shaking so badly she thought she wouldsubside, her eyes shut tight as she pushed herself on, then rounding a bush, Tiffanyopened her eyes too late, as she ran into the boy that had appeared as if fromnowhere.Grinning at her as he caught her in his arms, his orange eyes glinting in the lightalong with what appeared to be fangs, they werent massive over sized fangs butthey were definitely noticeable.Looking up at him Tiffany noticed, they were almost the same height, although hewas a bit taller than her, his short-ish black hair hanging down over his forehead inlots of thin gelled spikes, a black t-shirt with a long black leather coat over it andblack jeans as dark as his hair reviled the tops of shinny, black, ankle high, leatherboots.

Tiffany was shaking so badly now that he was the only thing holding her up, and shedidnt even care who he was or that she didnt know him, just that he was anotherhuman like her, a small slice of reality in this nightmarish dystopia.Suddenly the creature rounded the bush and lunged, sighing the boy spoke with whatappeared to be an American accent, but it wasnt like those whiney American accentsyou hear on telly, it was kind of, different.Excuse me.

Then before she could even respond, he leaped into the air flipping in front of thebeast and in no time he was at its throat choking it until the dog-like creature hit theground snarling.

Tiffany gasped as she sat shaking, watching the scene unfold, but they both movedfar too quickly for her to see them properly, then the boy turned to her amidst thefighting as time seemed to freeze and the scene around her became blurry.

Then speaking in a voice that seemed to be inside her very mind he whispered.Run.Normally, Tiffany was the sort of person that would help someone out no matterwhat, but in this case she did as he said and just legged it.

.Chapter two.

Walking down the dimly lit hallway, Annar desperately looked around for her locker;by this time she was sure that they changed places everyday.She had been excused from class to get her maths book out of her bag, havingforgotten it, and in maths class it would probably come in handy.

Turning yet another corner, Annar stopped in front of the teachers lounge.About to turn to the next corner, the girl paused, as she heard voices coming fromthe room the first sounded scared, now Annar was not the sort of person toeavesdrop but I defy any thirteen year old girl that happens to hear a teacher theyhate being intimidated by an odd couple youve never met, and not stop to listen.

Pressing her ear up against the door trying to listen in, Annar swallowed, the firstvoice sounded much to calm for what they were saying.we need to find him, are you sure you havent seen him?Yes Im sorry, we have checked our files he isnt listed in the school, sorry.Annar frowned, she recognized the second voice as her headmaster but she had noidea who the first one had been.Listening harder, Annar pressed herself closer up against the wood as herheadmaster spoke,Is he your son then?Oh no not really, he is from our family, easy to recognise, American accent.Annar shivered, there was something about the way they said family that seemedDifferent, like they were hiding something, frowning, the lines on her foreheadintensifying, Annar pushed against the door harder as there was a rustling movementinside and someone rummaged through a bag,Here, this is a photo of him.

Interesting paper, whats this printed on, it feels like a leaf?!stepping forwards, Annar held her breath as she heard a soft click! the door sprungopen and Annar burst in to the room falling on her hands and knees.Umm hi, sorry I was looking for my homework and I tripped. And ummMiss Sheldon!Annar grimaced as the principal stood above her arms folded.Swallowing, she got to her feet as she glanced at the picture on the table just as itwas slid into a bag pocket, it was a photo of a boy, perhaps her own age, he wore ablack and white suit, and his black hair was combed back into a flawless parting, she

frowned at the couple who sat in the shaded corner of the room, they looked nothinglike the boy in the picture, they were totally cloaked, the hoods covering their facescompletely, although dark grey hair escaped the womans hood they still soundedyoung, perhaps in their late thirties?Grabbing Annars arm the principal escorted her roughly out into the hall.Wait here and I will deal with you later

And with that he turned and walked back into the room, slamming the door behindhim. Leaving Annar alone in the empty hall way. Sticking her tongue out shemutteredGod damn pumpkin head!And with that she spun around and walked towards the lockers grabbed her book

then jogged down the hall to her class room.

Tiffany collapsed on a bench, her breathe coming in short rasping gasps, it felt as ifher lungs were filled with fire and the cramp in her ribs was close to unbearable,having ran all the way from the field and never stopped until she had reached thecentre of town, where she now sat trembling with a mix between fear, confusion,anger, and a total sense of being lost.

She sat staring at the mess of people running around in front of her like everythingwas normal, closing her eyes she tried to replay what had happened to her in the lasttwo hours or so,But she couldnt quite believe any of it, the thing, the boy, and had it been realanyway, could it have been some prank that went wrong? or animation? Hadsomeone drugged her water?!Sighing, she tried to stand only to fall back down on to the bench.

Then Inhaled and stood.She walked slowly, trembling and shaking with every step, until she reached the busstop, looking around; Tiffany then staggered into a corner shop and emerged amoment later with a two pint bottle of semi skimmed milk, returning to the bus stop,she sat down looking at the time table.

Tiffany wasnt aware of just when the bus had come but she was half way to boardingit when her mind un-blanked itself and returned her to the real world, handing thechange to the driver, she made her way to the nearest seat, looking out the windowas always until the familiar sight of her friends school loomed overhead.She would have just watched it go passed, had Annar not been standing out sidelooking very grim.Sighing, Tiffany yelled to the driverHey! Can I get off here?

The driver opened the door as the buss wheels screeched to a stop, then the girljumped off the seat still clutching the milk as if her life depended on it; it was after allthe only normal thing that had happened all day, then walking off the bus, Tiffanysmile grimly at her friendWhat are you doing here? And what the hell happened?!

Annar asked as Tiffany approached her, assuming that Annar was referring to thefour pale slash marks on her cheek, she croakedYou have no idea, of the day I have just hadKicking a stone, Annar mopedJoin the club, my principal suspended me for two weeks.No really, I just whyd he suspend you?Cause there was this weird couple freaking him out so I kinda eaves dropped and hecaught me, and he told me to wait, and well, I didnt. What happened to you?Sighing, Tiffany leant against the gate.

You wouldnt believe me if I told you.Try meShaking her head, Tiffany beckoned for Annar to follow her walking up the road in

the direction of her house.

Ringing the door bell, Tiffany waited silently for her mum to answer, when no-one

came she rang again, and again, and again, until the anger and rage that had beenbuilding up inside her was finally unleashed on her front door and Annar screamed asTiffany landed a powerful kick on the wood smashing it off its hinges,Sighing as she entered, Tiffany snappedOk, in my defence, some crappy door workmanship!Annar stepped tentatively into the room, looking at the splintered wood nervouslysayingI would hate to get on the wrong side of you.Smiling, Tiffany attempted to stand the door back up,You think my mum will know it was me?NoAnnar mocked picking up a piece of splintered woodIm sure shell just think it was group of mindless destructive termites.Oh ha ha ha.

Tiffany laughed sarcastically, kicking the door handle out of her way as she walkedinto the house.Mum? ... You home?Shrugging, she walked into the kitchen, flicking her electric kettle on as she passedthe through door into the living room and sat on the sofa.

Joining her, Annar began to search desperately for the TV remote as EastEnders wason (Tiffany and Annars least favourite show)Aaah! Quick turn it off! The musics starting!Annar yelled covering her earsAaah!Screaming as the music began; Tiffany looked to Annar, who yelled,Aaah! Forget this!Diving at the telly, Annar plunged straight into the off\on switch and was greeted

with the soft pweew of the telly going black.Sighing, they sunk back into the sofaThat was close; it nearly got to the intro.Laughing at their own stupidity, they walked back into the kitchen pouring the kettle

water into two steaming cups of hot chocolate, suddenly Tiffany froze as she stoppedin front of the broken door, or rather the door that she was sure had been brokenUmm Annar? Did, did I break the door?What? Are you only just realising? Oh.Stopping still beside Tiffany mouth agape, Annar realised what her friend was staring

at.Looking at Annar, Tiffany frownedDo you see what I see?Annar nodded

Are you sure?Shaking her head, they sighed looking at what was now a fully fixed door.Walking over to it, Tiffany gently touched the handle opening and closing it just tomake sure, she then walked back into the living room and sat down.Well that is just the pickle on the giant crap sandwich that has been my day.Sitting down besides her still looking puzzled, Annar asked,Well what happened to you then? It cant be weirder than that!

Tiffany glanced at her friend.Promise not to tell anyone, or freak out?

She noddedOk, but you still wont believe me Earlier, when I went to walk to town, well youknow the field, well I was walking through the field, and I heard something, so Iturned around and yelled--Whatd you yell?Youre kinda missing the point. Nothing was there, so I carry on walking then I turn

around again, and theres this massive thing trying to kill me! It was bloodyhorrible! It looked like a big wolf man! But worse!Dude?Oh thats only the half of it. Then this, boy! Appears and tells me to run!

A cute boy?Annar asked mockinglyThat is so far beyond the point!

Tiffany replied irritably, her cheeks going slightly pink,I GOT ATTACKED BY A WOLF MAN! And I think the boy who saved me wasnt evenhuman! You should have seen him fight the thing.Annar smiled,I think you need to sleep.Flapping her arms around wildly, Tiffany continuedIm serious! Apart from the way he looked he was inhumanSo howd he look?What?! Well kind of, I duno, he had black hair, kind of orange eyes and, oh yea,FANGS!Frowning, Annar looked upHang on; did he have an American accent?Sitting bolt up right, Tiffany stared at herOh my god yea! Howd you know?Looking totally perplexed, Annar answeredMy headmaster! He was talking to this weird couple with cloaks! And they said theywere looking for someone from their family, but it was weird, like they were huntinghim or something.

Tiffany was about to respond when the door bell rang, sighing, she got up to answeritOh hey mum, whered you go?Shopping Did you paint the door?Hu? Oh um yea well me and Annar did, can she stay again tonight?Sighing, her mum shruggedIf its alright with her mum. Oh and Tiffy dont forget that Ive got that arrangementwith the family in Devon Ill be gone a few days, not sure how long but Ive arrangedfor your aunty to look after you while Im gone, she should be coming tomorrow.Yea mum fine!Grinning at each other, they ran out the door to beg Annars mother.Crossing the road, they ran into the open door as Annar yelled,Hey mum can I stay round Tiffs house again?MaybeHer mum yelled back from the kitchen

Try asking a little nicer.Mother might I please stay round master Tiffanys house upon this eve?Very funny, I said nicely not poshley; yes anyway just dont be late for schooltomorrow.Annar grimaced, then shrugging at Tiffany, crossed her fingers and continued,Oh um, yea we have a break for a couple of weeks so, umYou are not thinking of staying with your friend all that time! Oh god if its ok withher, you can stay a week check back with me every two days, and pack a bag, and ifyou wear out your welcome come straight back ok?

OkAnnar said thrusting her fist into the air in silent victory, then high-fiveing each otherthey ran up stairs into Annars room.Grabbing a small back pack off the back of her door, Annar began rooting aroundunder her bed for some clothes.How many should I bring? If Im going to check back every two days,

She asked pulling a face at her doorwayShould I just bring, like, two pairs and change them or like?Yea whatever thats cool.Yea, like, cool.Grinning as she grabbed a random assortment of clothes and piled them in to herbag, Annar then grabbed a toothbrush and zipped up the bag, slinging it onto hershoulder and waltzing out the door, Tiffany close behind her as they ran down thestairs and back to Tiffanys house.

.Chapter three.

It was late into the night when the two friends went down stairs.As always they had waited for her mum to go to sleep so they could sneak sweets outof the kitchen cupboard.Holding back their laughter as the carpet shuffled and creaked under their feet,

Tiffany stifled a laugh whisperingDont make a sound, ok?OkAnnar chuckled avoiding a coat which had decided to curl up on the step.

Reaching the kitchen, they began prowling around the cupboards looking for food.Do you have any hot chocolate left?Umm yea, somewhere.Annar began pulling cans out and shoving them on the counter.Opening the fridge, Tiffany pulled out a Kit-Kat then stuffed it in her pocket andgrabbed some ham, thump thump thumpAaah!

Jumping back as they heard a banging sound from outside the friends looked at eachother then edged their way to the kitchen doorway with their backs to the wallYou check first, its your houseAnnar uttered, her voice shaking slightly

No way!Tiffany retorted

You!Together?

They sighed and then jumped out fists balled to seeNothing.What the hell?!Looking around, Tiffany then opened the door and checked out side, the streets

were empty, and almost nothing moved.Looking at each other they closed the door and shrugged.Duno, what the hell that was, maybe the wind

Yea thats just what parents say in horror movies right before they get killed by thezombies or vampires or whatever the hell is wielding an axe!Shuddering Annar sat down on the sofa,Im sure it really was the wind though, I mean it makes things bash around and junkso, you know, itll ether be that or.

They froze as they both heard the sound of what seemed like a vacuum that was

blocked by a tissue, but with out the mechanical noise in the background.w-what i-is t-that?Annar and Tiffany looked at each other in alarm then they both said what they leastwanted to hear,Is it, breathing?The second the words left their mouths the noise stopped, without a moments

hesitation they bolted up stairs screaming and lunging under the covers.Ya know whatever the hell that thing was we should call the police!Annar trembled, still beneath the covers.Yea but what should we say!? That we heard spooky vacuum breathing?!rolling onto the cushions by the side of the bed, Annar pulled another duvet over herhead and sighed, Tiffany did the same and lay there in silence, listening to the windthrough the near by trees until the sound of Annar's breathing informed Tiffany thatshe was asleep, rolling over, Tiffany stared at the wall, trying not to think about thebreathing that she had heard earlier, but this only made her mind wander back to thewolf thing she had seen, shuddering, Tiffany pulled the blanket up higher in anattempt to relieve her mind of the horror movie images it had began to flick through.

Thump! Thump! lunging into a sitting position, Tiffany looked around the room,her heart beginning to speed up and she found herself uttering silent prayers fornothing bad to happen, throwing off the covers, Tiffany crept out of bed on all fours,avoiding stepping on Annar, which failed miserably as she knelt on her leg, thenstood up, back to the wall staring under the door, there was nothing there but the girlknew she had heard somethingTiffany?Rubbing her eyes, Annar sat up

Whats wrong?Shhh!

Did you just shhh me?!Do you hear that?What?That

They paused and listened then Thump! Annar stood up and walked over to thewindowHey Tiff I think itsBut Tiffany was already gone, her bedroom door wide open, looking around

anxiously, Annar walked out and crept down the stairs clutching the banister like itwould fly away if she let go.

Closing the door behind her, Tiffany walked out into the road, still clutching the

wooden tent peg she had found in the hall, she knew it wasnt brilliant but it was theonly sharp object that she could find,a-all right, i-if theres a-anythings out here then, dont bother hiding!she turned, looking up and down the street, although she wasnt really expectinganything to answer her so the American accent that echoed calmly off the housesnearly made Tiffany jump out of her untied boots,Think its safe for a girl to walk these streets alone at night?Taking a deep breath, she turned around, holding the weapon behind her back

What?The boy asked as he slid off the wall he was sitting on, his long leather coat flying upbehind him midair.Backing off slightly as he landed perfectly balanced in front of her, Tiffany askedagain, voice shakingi-in the field that, that THING!

He smiled at herI have no idea what youre talking about.Quivering slightly, she backed off as he took a step towards herThat weird THING!Leaping aside, Tiffany watched as he turned to avoid the creature rising up behind

him, bellowing.Jumping he flipped midair as its paw came crashing down putting a scratch mark onhis coat,OY!The boy yelled swinging the coat off his shoulders and holding the scratch mark in

front of himTHATLL COST YA!

Throwing the coat at Tiffany he threatenedIf you get any scratches or mud on that, Ill kill you.Blinking at him in confusion and fear as he turned to the creature and began to

punch and kick it, Tiffany swallowed.She had idea what was happening, but all she wanted to do was get the hell out ofthere.His attacks did a lot more damage to the thing then she had expected, but it stilldidnt seem to do enough, the shaggy dog bit and scratched but it rarely seemed tohit the boy, standing like a statue, petrified, Tiffany would not have moved all nighthad she not heard a growl from behind her, leaping aside before anything had thechance to attack her, Tiffany looked up at the monster that was crouched were shehad been mere seconds ago, barely even hesitating, she let her instincts take over.

Annar watched from the doorway, her face white with shock as she watched her bestfriend plough a wooden tent peg through the monsters chest.

He smiledVampire.She looked around as an obvious fact was only just hit her

Hey, if youre a vampire then how come you can walk around in sunlight, or is thatjust a myth?He sat down on the arm of the sofa and pulled at a chain around his neck revealing asmall metal talisman that she thought looked like a big wolfs fang.Claw actually, silver and werewolf.Hu? AAAAH!He put his hand on her shoulder and the pain seemed to lessen although it appearedthat he could not stop it.She blinked back tears once more and then if felt as if her entire body was beingripped apart at the seams.She screamed even louder and dropped to all fours bracing herself with her hands.

Whats going on?She heard Annars voice from the distanceTiffany!Desaris was speaking to her in her mind again, this much she knew.Ok can you hear me?He put his other hand on her shoulder and she could hear him more clearlyI need you to promise me something and our very lives could depend on it, in just amoment the pain is going to stop, and you are going to hate me and Annar aboveeverything else you are going to want to kill us, and more importantly, you will beable to. So promise me that no matter what goes through your mind, promise thatyou will not move from this spot ok?

Tiffany had no idea why he was telling her this when she was in so much pain thattears were streaming silently down her cheeks but she could tell he was serious andthere was even a part of him that seemed scared, unable to talk due to the pain, shecould barely breath, and nothing she did seemed to have any effect on the skintearing, head throbbing feeling, but she looked up, meeting his eyes and blinked,then he nodded and let go, the pain increased, whatever he had been preventing wasnow unleashed in a sudden burst of agony and just as she felt like she would pass outit stopped.Leaving her to crash to the ground panting heavily.

Minutes passed and no-one spoke, when she finally raised her head, things seemeddifferent, clearer.Annar stood by the door way, her face white as snow as if she had just seen a ghost,she stood shaking, but Tiffany didnt care, she was so confused she had no idea whyshe wasnt upset that her best friend was scared, and this made her angry, thenpushing herself up with her hands she looked down at Desaris who was still kneeling

on the floor, he hadnt broken eye contact through any of it, then Tiffany realisedsomething, she was looking down at him.Turning her head slowly to look at her hands, or rather what had been her handsmoments before, Tiffany inhaled heavily, finding that this was all she was capable ofat the moment.She raised one of her, now paw-like hands to look at it realising now that they did stillresemble hands, they were sort of the same shape, just more padded and paw-likeand she had almost the same dexterity as they used to but they were stronger withmassive black talons protruding from the ends of the curved fingers.She pressed down hard with the other and realised that they were made not just forfighting, but for running, her entire shape was built for swift getaways and fiercefights. Looking in a mirror Tiffany gasped at her image.She was a massive shaggy dog her eyes mirrored the orange colour of a harvestmoon, looking almost as if it were reflecting in her corneas, or what little of themshowed as the dark black of her pupils consumed most of them, although more wolf-like than the werewolves she had seen before and she looked more feminine, herdark brown fur covering over her entire being, the snout, only slightly shorter than awolfsAnnar, computer.Way ahead of youAnnar stated shakily, turning the screen so that they could seeWerewolves and LycansDesaris and the lycanthropy Tiffany stared at the screen:Werewolves that were born as humans--Annar read aloudHave more tendency towards a human body does she look anything like this?

Then she left the room and walked up the stairs.

Breathing in shakily as she grabbed a short-ish black skirt, with shorts attached a pairof black leggings with red lace at the bottom and the sides and a tight black T-shirtwith a white skull on it.

So, are you ok?Annar questioned sitting next to Desaris on the sofa as he held an ice pack to his

neck, eyes closed as he smiledGod, yes I thought she was gonna bloody well kill me, she probably wanted to andall.He laughed.

HeyTiffany stated quietly leaning against the door way in her new change of clothes.Not bad--

He smiled at herSuites you more than a tail.Desaris grinned, she smiled weakly then sat down on the sofa beside him twiddling

Turning, she lunged at Desaris, knocking him to the floor as they rolled into the frontdoor, being far too busy with her hands around the vampires neck, Tiffany didntnotice the door that they had landed next to crash down onto the floor as they rolledout side, switching position,You, stupid, annoying, cocky, vampire!she yelled as she lay on top of him throttling him against the pavement, suddenly,his eyes flashed red, then Tiffany found herself pinned to the floor as he lay, onehand around her neck the other holding her arms on her stomach, although unlikeherself he applied little to no pressureOh, down bit---Suddenly he stopped, looking up, then leaped up hissing as he said sternlyTiffany, get up. Now!

Begrudgingly, the girl got to her feet staring at him as if looks could kill, thensnappedDesaris what the hell isStopping, Tiffany followed his gaze to where two cloaked people stood, arms folded ina slightly oppressive manner.Stepping forwards the woman saidDanny? as they started to chant Tiffanys mind raced, she had to remain still, robotic or theywould not be convinced, but more than anything she did not want them to harmDesaris and Annar, closing her eyes, trying to block out their chanting, Tiffanylunged, catching Desaris eye as her lycanthropy form hit them full force, they had noidea what was going on, giving her the advantage then she stared at Desaris, Tiffanyfound herself craving blood, specifically his and Annars but keeping the image ofthem laughing together in her mind, she thought about what she wanted to do andhe nodded.Running at the couple, having not been affected by the spell either, Annar jumpedthe woman, keeping her from chanting, as Tiffany ripped into the man, trying herbest not to hold back as the tangy metallic taste of his blood hit her teeth she wasforced to listen to the part of her that said, this is fun, this tastes goodShivering as she shut her eyes, Tiffany bit into his shoulder ignoring his cries offagony and despair.Desaris didnt hesitate, he ran to the door and held his hand up as Annars readypacked bag came flying at him, catching it he then held out his free hand and closedhis eyes as a red and black skull bag began to fill itself with a bunch of Tiffanyscloths, a waterproof ground sheet, a couple of thin fleece blankets then a wallet onthe side and the bag flew onto his outstretched arm.

Slinging the second bag onto his shoulder, Desaris threw the other one at Annar whohad joined him at the door, her adversary doubled over in pain as Tiffany continuedto fight them both.

Taking a deep breath Desaris yelledTiffany! Now!

Turning, the lycan charged towards him, fangs dripping with fresh blood.He and Annar held their breath, as for one terrible moment they thought that shewould not stop, then heart pounding she skidded to a halt in front of them andgrowled, Desaris leaped onto her back clinging to her thick fur as he offered a hand

to Annar, sitting behind him she clutched his shoulders, then with one final bloodcurdling howl they were off.

Tiffanys heart thumped against her chest as her clawed paw\hands pounding thepaved streets, gaining speed every second; unsure of where they were going or whatwould happen when they got there, Tiffany looked around herself in haste and panicknowing only that she had to get herself and her friends out of danger and fast.

Chapter eight

Heart still pounding, breath rasping as the air scraped across her lungs making hercough, the lycan carried on running, feeling as if her throat was burning, and her legsshook even as she ran making it impossible to keep on a straight line.Blinking became more of a fight to stay awake each time she did so, until eventuallyshe was forced to stop and rest.Looking concerned as he knelt down in front of her Desaris whisperedTiff, Tiffany you ok?Nodding, she then made an attempt to stand only to be pushed back down by gravityitself panting heavilyHereSmiling Desaris reached into his jeans pocket and produced a pendent, putting itsilently around her neck.Looking at the brass crescent moon as he did up the steel chain, Tiffany wonderedwhat it was for.Itll help, with the transforming thing makes it easier to do and makes sure yourclothes dont take a beating for it.Raising a paw she clouted him gently round the head and roared, although even thissimple action made him fall downOww! What the bloody hell was that for?!Closing her eyes she felt the familiar shift of gravity, much like a plane taking off asshe changed back into a human, then still panting, she snappedI told you not to read my blo my mind!Clutching his head Desaris rose to his feet, pulling Tiffany up by her shoulders andsayingYea but watch your strength one of these days you couldPausing he looked around

Kicking a stone into a tree Desaris sighed and sat downRemind me to stop by M&S.Exchanging glances as the girls refrained from laughing, Annar questionedWell, shouldnt we set up a camp or something?Watching Tiffany panting on the floor she continued.I mean Tiff must be exhausted she did carry us all this way, and I think she was tiredby half of it.Nodding Desaris clicked his fingers.

Rummaging through the bags Annar then produced the fleece blankets and threwone at Desaris.

Desaris she groanedWe only have two blankets, there thin, its cold, and I gotta tell ya I am not happysharing a mat with a murderous lycan and a bloodthirsty vampire.Good points but were not in a five star hotel so no choices there, unless of courseyou fell like standing guard all night.Sighing Annar mumbledFine but I aint going in the middle.Whatever, but that only means that youll be closer to whatever is waiting for you inthe dark goodnight.Holding back his laughter Desaris lay down on the edge of the matt leaving Annar theright side next to Tiffany.Uuurrr.Groaning Annar lay down next to her and they shared out the blanketsWell goodnight. Please no-one eat me.Desaris waved an arm dismissively as he rolled on to his side and closed his eyes.NightHe smiled adding sarcasticallySleep tight.Closing her eyes Annar found that it was a lot easier to drift off to sleep then she hadthought and before long she was in the land of dreams.

Desaris? ...Sitting up Tiffany looked around, having paid little attention to where she hadcollapsed and now finally seeing it she gasped, even in the night time this place wasincredible, they were at the top of a small sloped hill two magnificent oak treesshading their camp with fields all around.It looked like something from a family picnic scene, smiling Tiffany looked back at theground sheet, where engulfed in both the blankets Annar lay asleep in her cocoonlike state, but Desaris was nowhere to be seen.Walking to the edge of the hill Tiffany looked down at her surroundings not that shecould see much in the darkness of whichever hour this was, suddenly her stomachmumbled a row of incoherent gluglings something that could well have sounded like:feeeed meeee!

Then with a sudden wave of hunger making her stomach feel as if it were eating itself

Tiffany shuddered and looked around, true she couldnt see much now, but in herlycanthrope state she was more than certain that she would be able to rustle upsome grub, but there was also the added temptation that as a werewolf she wouldfeel, alive, and the pain from the ache of running all day would vanish, closing hereyes Tiffany began to transform when Desaris voice called inside her mindDont do itOpening her eyes she found herself in human form, as the vampire stood leaningagainst the trunk of one of the oak trees.Why?

Walking for hours in the freezing cold dead of night while you take directions from avampire, seemed all too horror movie-ish for Annar who now hung in the back of the

group, the two blankets wrapped around her shoulders, although with every breezethat found its way through a hole in the fleece Annar shivered and tensed althoughthis did little more than making her shake uncontrollably.

Trying to keep up with the vampires fast walking pace Tiffany trembledD-Desaris w-where are w-we going?Long term? Or in the next half hour?b-both.Looking her up and down as he walked Desaris said

Desaris we cant buy food with no money.Beginning to walk towards the town Desaris smirkedI tell ya now, with me you wont need much money, except maybe for travel.Yea provided the person at the counter is either a girl or gay.Staring at her with a slight smile Desaris said in a ghostly voiceYou know, I can do more than attraction spells

The way he looked at her made Tiffany flinch, and finding herself unable to look awayor move Tiffany snappedIf you put another spell on me I swear you WILL regret it bat boy!Smiling he looked away and Tiffany nearly fell to her knees, steadying her, Desarisdisappeared and reappeared in front of her, ignoring her confusion.Catching up with him Tiffany sighedHow did you do that?Do what?Oh noSaid Tiffany stopping in front of himYou know what.
