Abnormal Psychology 35 Fall2017 Famous Psychologists Project Preamble As we move forward in this course, it is important to consider theories and concepts from multiple perspectives. There are numerous psychologists and psychiatrists that have contributed greatly to the understanding of Psychology and the study of human behaviour. We are going to look at a few of these, including Muslim perspectives. Choose one of the famous psychologists below and create a presentation and physical profile [poster]. You may work alone or with a partner. You will be given two days of research time and one day of class time to complete this assignment. In groups of 3, choose from the following psychologists/psychiatrists: Name Area of Contribution: Al-Kindi Pioneer in experimental psychology Al-Farabi Social psychology; socialization Al-Farakh Social psychology Ibn Sina Pioneer of neuropsychiatry Imam Al-Ghazali Concept of the self Al-Balkhi First to define medical psychology; he was the first to distinguish between neuroses and psychoses Al-Razi Psychotherapy and Intelligences Ivan Pavlov Conditioning John B. Watson Behaviourism, “Little Albert” Albert Bandura Social learning and self-efficacy Sigmund Freud Psychoanalysis Abraham Maslow Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs B. F. Skinner Operant Conditioning and Radial behaviourism Carl Jung Concept of introvert and extrovert personality *If you have someone else in mind, approach me before beginning your project. Requirements: 1. Presentation (7-10 minutes): a. Background information i. Birth, death, schooling, etc. b. Research i. What their specialty area was / What made them famous ii. What their influence was iii. How they attempted to test their theory iv. What kind of success and critiques they experienced c. Connection to today i. Why is this person still talked about today? If not, then why should they be discussed? ii. Is this perspective/approach still relevant? d. Proper APA citations and references
