The 1901 Census records that his father, Joseph, then aged 53, had been born in Warton,

Lancashire and was a railway stationmaster (at Heaton Chapel Station). His mother, Sarah, was aged 55 and hadbeen born in Leamington.The Census also shows that, at 14, Frederick was the youngest of the children. He was initially posted as missing in action before being confirmed KIA.
