ESOL
If English is not your first language, you can take a course to help you improve your English language skills. These courses are called ESOL (English for speakers of other languages). You can gain a qualification at the end of your learning. These qualifications offer the first steps in helping you build your knowledge and skills of the English language and will allow you to live more independently in the UK.
Call (01254) 507720 or email [email protected] to join our waiting lists. All learners will be offered an assessment prior to joining the course.
Family Learning
We can help you understand what your children are learning in school and improve your own reading, writing, maths and computer skills so you can help them with their homework. Our sessions include arts, crafts, health & fitness.
Everyone in the family and extended family are welcome, such as parents, carers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, children and even friends of the family and it’s friendly, free and fun!
Courses we offer include Supporting your child’s English, Maths and Language, Family Arts and Crafts & Story Sacks.
For further information, call us on (01254) 581175 or email [email protected]
Courses for groups with learning difficulties and disabilities
We offer fun and friendly courses for groups of people with learning difficulties, disabilities, or mental health needs. Topics include cookery, arts & crafts, and drama. The aim of these sessions is to help people become more confident, make friends, learn new skills, move on to paid or voluntary work, and learn to live independently.

Transforming Lives
Public and voluntary services in Blackburn with Darwen are working together to provide families and/or adults with complex needs the support they need as early as possible. Anyone needing help with parenting, a family member’s anti-social behaviour, drug or alcohol misuse, domestic abuse, health problems, debt, housing or tenancy issues and loneliness or isolation can be referred into the Transforming Lives Programme. Transforming Lives provides a Key Worker who then work alongside the family to identify and address any issues. The Key Worker can also co-ordinate the work of other services and agencies. All support is offered and monitored through four hubs located in Audley, Little Harwood, Bank Top and Darwen.
Neighbourhood issues are also managed through the Locality Hubs and services such as work clubs, Your Call activities and other community issues are supported by our team of community officers based in the hubs. They work with partners including the police, fire service and housing to support local residents to make improvements to their streets and neighbourhoods..
