Eastern European Migration

Samuel Suskauer and his family came to New York from Russia as part of this migration. At this time, Jews were facing persecution and economic problems, inspiring the migration and bringing the Suskauers to the United States.

World War II

My father’s parents were both working in preparation and support for World War II. Harry worked in the shipyard and Barbara in a government office. Harry and Barbara met during this time and brought my father into the world!

Counterculture

The hippie counterculture shaped me as a person greatly. During the 70s, both of my parents were teenagers and experienced all of the great music and protests of teenagers. With this, I grew up listening to the Beatles, James Taylor, and Simon and Garfunkel.

“Friendship Force”

Jimmy Carter began the “Friendship Force”, encouraging cultures to merge for better understanding of each other for world peace. My parents met through a Friendship Force meeting.

Internet

Through the internet, my father was reunited with his half-brother, Steve, Steve’s wife, and his sons. Now we remain extremely close with that part of our family and see them often.

Twin Towers Attacked

The attack on the Twin Towers caused fear in my family and my mom decided to become and citizen of the United States after being a permanent resident for 7 years. This also changed the way we visited Brazil.
