forma amable vuelva a preguntar

cuando llegue a la cita.

Para los niños, la visita al dentis-

ta tiene que ser acerca de apren-

dizaje, sentirse cómodo y con-

fortable los niños aprenden mas

cuando se sienten en confianza y

en un ambiente amable y mirando

a otros niños.

A veces los padres envían men-

sajes negativos a los niños sobre

el dentista así que padres piensen

que la oficina del dentista es como

el salón de clase donde primero

se observa para darles tiempo a

los niños para que conversen con

los asistentes. Que es lo que usted

observa? Están tratando al niño

conforme su edad? El equipo de

dentista está contento y amable?

Ellos están ensenando al niño o

solo están haciendo su trabajo? Re-

It is important that Children get off to a good start when visiting the dentist for the first time.

The first visit sets the ground

rules for what to expect

from the dental team and

what is expected of the child. I

recommend taking the time to

ask what will happen at the first

visit so you as the parent have

a comfort level with the proce-

dures of the office. If the phone

person can’t answer that ques-

tion, then question whether

they are kid friendly!

For Children, the dental visit

should be about learning and

gaining confidence. Children

learn best in a comfortable

environment and by watching

other children. Often parents

unknowingly send mixed signals

to a child about dentistry, so

parents can think of the den-

tal office like a classroom and

observe first. That gives a child

time to interact with the staff.

What do you observe? Is the

child treated in an age appro-

priate level? Are the staff caring

and cheerful? Are they teaching

or just going through the mo-

tions? Positive answers to these

questions will put both parent

and child at ease.

At the end of the appoint-

ment, are things explained to

you so you are comfortable

with your understanding? Den-

tists also teach parents, so think

of that first visit as an interview.

Would you “hire” that dentist,

or do you need to keep look-

ing? Don’t settle when it comes

to your kids, your gut feeling

should be positive!

Hopefully these tips will help

you find a place your child can

grow and be healthy. It takes a

team of parents, child and a den-

tal team that cares to get it right!
