    The Accursed Share

On the surface of the globe, for living matter in

general, energy is always in excess The choice

is limited to how the wealth is to be squandered Ang tinutukoy naAccursedShareay ang surplus

wealth, at ang paggamit at paggasta nito ang

naghihiwalay sa mga human societies sa mundo

The greater the escess energy, the more intense

    the wars

  • 8/6/2019 Family and Religion

    23/39

we must divert the surplus production,

either into the rational extension of a

    difficult industrial growth, or into

unproductive works that will dissipate anenergy that cannot be accumulated in any

    case.

  • 8/6/2019 Family and Religion

    24/39

If a part of wealth is doomed to destruction

or at least to unproductive use without any

possible profit, it is logical, even

    unescapable, to surrender commoditieswithout return.

The value of the contemplative life lies in

its witness value, in the way it challenges the

world to consider the possibility and

desirability of a way of life vastly differentfrom the one we know, a way of life devoted

to the silent quest for perfection

    1. The view that faith is a matter of believing;

therefore it requires no empirical proof.

Belief is a matter of faith Agoo phenomena subject

    to empirical proof

    2. The belief that anything that strengthens ones

faith or gains new converts to the Church can only be

good, and therefore it must be encouraged.

    3. The belief that the realization of ones personal

wishes serves to confirm the truth of ones belief.

To have faith is to believe in Gods word and

to entrust your life to Him. It is not to

suspend the natural frame of reference on

everything. What is questioned is the reported apparition

of Mary and not the devotion to her.

  • 8/6/2019 Family and Religion

    34/39

If the Agoo miracles have strengthened the

faith of many and made them better

Christians, why should the Church not

maintain the mystique of Agoo rather thandemean it with its expose?

  • 8/6/2019 Family and Religion

    35/39

The Church will have nothing to do with what

is not true. Faith does not mean the

suspension of our natural standards for

validating experience; it only means thereadiness to look beyond the natural frame

of experience when it can no longer furnish

    the answers.

Cultures tend to impose supernatural sanctions on

the composition of animal flesh when the ratio of

communal benefits to costs associated with the useof a particular species deteriorates.

Severe restrictions tend to develop when a

nutritionally valuable species not only becomes

more expensive, but its continued use endangersthe existing mode of subsistence e.g pig: forests to

    grasslands to deserts

Leviticus XI even the domestication of pigs was

unclean; eating habits of the Israelites
