Town of Sullivan

Fall 2019

A Message from the Town Supervisor

Hello everyone,

I hope that everyone is outside enjoying the beautiful weather lately and taking advantage of all this Town has to offer. We have

been fortunate enough to have some nice weather after the long rainy spring, but hey, that’s Central New York.

We have received responses from the Town Wide Survey and we would like to thank everyone who participated. Your opinion is

valued and will help guide us in the future. We are actively working on quite a few things here at the Town and that includes the approval

of a Website proposal from a company called Civicplus. We feel as though that redesigning the Town website is something that has

needed to happen for some time. The system we are currently using we have had for over 30 years, it has served us well but as anything

else, as time passes, it needs updating. Also, we are hoping to bring the Bridgeport Greenscapes project to fruition to give the Hamlet of

Bridgeport a welcoming feel that is also safer for pedestrians walking along Route 31. Bridgeport is also seeing the long-awaited addition

of a bank. They have recently begun construction of what will be a Seneca Federal Credit Union. This addition came after we lobbied to

have Bridgeport declared as a federal banking district in the beginning of this year.

In other exciting news, we are in the preliminary stages of working with Byrne Dairy to site a new store in our area. This will be a

great addition to the Town and will be a nice update from the current Byrne Dairy we have in the Village now.

The Town Board is always working to give our Town and its citizens the best quality living in the area. As always, our Board

meetings are the first and third Wednesday of the month and open to the public. Until the next flyer, I hope that everyone enjoys the

remainder of summer and stays happy and healthy.

John Becker

Town Supervisor

A Message from the Parks & Recreation Director

As we close out another beautiful summer here in Central New York, it

is now time to welcome in the fall season. Fall is an incredible time to visit our

parks, Sullivan Park in Chittenango and Chapman Park in Lakeport….and enjoy all

they have to offer.

As always, we will be organizing a full slate of programming, events,

and trips for the Town of Sullivan Community. I would like to alert the

community to changes we will have in our programming due to the capital

improvements taking place at Bolivar Elementary School. We lean heavily on our

relationship with the Chittenango School District, to provide facility use for many

of our programs. Bolivar Elementary in particular was home to many of our

programs like fitness, dance and basketball to name a few. Due to the

improvements being made at Bolivar, we have had to work diligently with the

Chittenango School District to cultivate a plan on how to continue to provide

excellent programming to the community using other spaces.

We will be shuffling around some program locations and program

times to help alleviate the lack of facility use in 2019 and part of 2020. PLEASE

work with us and have an understanding that where a program or practice may

have been held last year, this year may be on the other side of town or

scheduled a bit later than usual. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

This department has a long history of success and we will continue to

build upon that and work through some logistical challenges as the Chittenango

School District makes improvements to their facilities.

Peter Bardou

Parks & Recreation Director

A Message from the Highway

Department

Due to the volume of Ash trees

damaged by the Emerald Ash Borer, the Town of

Sullivan Highway Department has been removing

dying trees that are in the Town’s right of way.

Dying ash trees not on the town’s property are

the responsibility of the resident.

Debris from private whole tree removal

will not be picked up on brush pickup days.

Residents may call the highway department (315-

687-6031) to arrange for a town dump truck to be

left for the resident to load. The truck will be

picked up once the resident has finished loading

the tree debris.

Please visit the Town of Sullivan

Highway Department’s website for the regular

brush pickup schedule, as well as other highway

department information.
