Foothills Neighborhood Halloween EventFriday, October 24, 6-8 pm.

Children, ages 10 and younger, can load up on candy at the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center and enjoy

an evening of activities, including carnival games, photo opportunities, temporary tattoos, train rides (additional cost),

costume parade and arts and crafts. Absolute Rhythm Dance Company will be on site with a “Thriller” dance performance. Admission can be purchased the night of the event for $4 ($5 non-residents). Supervision is required: Parents are FREE. For more information call 623-930-4610.

8th Annual Santa’s WorkshopSaturday, December 13th from 10am-Noon.Kids of all ages are invited to this special event where they can purchase holiday presents (everything is $2) for their friends, family or even their pets. A store will be set up with a variety of items sure to make everyone happy. Santa’s elves will be on site to wrap their selection in holiday wrapping paper. Foothills AquaticsThe lap pool is available year round for fitness lap swimming (schedules available at the front desk), a variety of adult water aerobic offerings, private swim lessons for ages 15 and older and swim/dive team. Hands-on artistic and collaborative programming for all ages takes place this fall at your Glendale Public Libraries. Join our teaching artists for a wide slate of programs geared for the very young up to adult learners. Try your hand at new artistic medium in one of the Main Library’s Creative Space programs or take your children to a special story time with related art activity. The community comes together in these free library programs designed for exploring the arts, collaborating with community, and meeting new people in Glendale.

Songs-In-Progress Workshops

Musicians gather at the Glendale Public Library to hone their craft. Participants can meet one-on-one with Arizona Songwriters Association member, Gavan Weiser, to get constructive feedback on their songs, finished or not, BEFORE they go into the studio. Perform a song live or bring a CD or work tape. Take advantage of this free opportunity to strengthen your songwriting in a laid back atmosphere. Gavan Weiser is a singer/songwriter who plays bass in the world’s oldest punk band, One Foot in the Grave. For more information on these monthly songwriting workshops, please call 623-930-3573.

Glendale Parks & Recreation does not place individuals on teams, but individuals may be listed on a Free Agent List made available to teams short on players. If you would like to be placed on the Free Agent List or have any questions about the Adult Sports program, please contact Mike D. at 623-930-2841 or [email protected].

To receive Glendale resident rates, proof of residency must be provided. Proof must show address and be current within 60 days. Examples include driver’s license, water bill, etc. Teams will pay the maximum non-resident fee until proof of residency is verified, then a refund will be issued for the appropriate amount. Refunds take 7-10 business days.

CONFIRM RESIDENTS: New teams who choose to be a resident team may call 623-930-2841 on or after September 11 to confirm team resident status.

FEES: Returning and Glendale resident teams: $505 • New Resident Teams (minimum number of 4 Glendale residents): $505 • New non-resident Teams: $595. Price includes double-header, 14-game regular season and a single-elimination tournament; administrative fees; ASA registration fee; softballs; lights; awards for winning teams; officials and field staff. $50 off league fees will be given to teams who attend the organizational meeting. The above listed rates do NOT include the $50 discount.

NUMBER OF TEAMS: Leagues are based on 8 maximum, 6 minimum. If leagues do not fill, teams will be placed in another league if space permits.

2014 Arizona Cardinals/NFL Punt, Pass & Kick CompetitionThis is a national skills competition in which girls and boys in four separate age divisions compete against each other in punting, passing and placekicking in a fun and engaging forum. Scores are based on distance and accuracy. This program is FREE for boys and girls ages 6-15. This year the local competition will be held on Tuesday, September 9th at Foothill sport complex, 57th Ave & just north of Union Hills on field #1 and #2. Onsite registration begins at 5pm sharp and the Competitions begin at 6 p.m.

Winners from the local competition will advance on to the sectional competition to be held on Sunday, November 2nd at the Sahuaro Ranch Main soccer field, 59th Ave and Mountain View. Only the top four boys and girls first place finishers in each age bracket from the pool of Sectional competition champions will advance to the Team Championships at the Cardinal Stadium to be held during a regular season home game. Before/After School Recreation ProgramQualifies for DES assistanceG.R.A.S.P. is a licensed recreation program which provides a variety of activities for children ages 5 to 13 such as arts and crafts, recreation activities, guest speakers and much more! The programs are regulated by the Arizona Department of Health Services and can accept DES qualifying families (contact your DES caseworker for information). Our programs provide enrichment opportunities to explore new and fun experiences in a supervised environment. Educational activities, snacks, group games and homework time are offered by caring, adult staff members. Program sites are open early release days, but closed on national holidays or when the school campus is closed.

Our mission is to preserve a historic site where the community participates in the ongoing development of educational and social experiences that connect Glendale residents and visitors to the past and to each other.
