VP Technical Report By John Fischer Jr.

CHAPTER MEMBERS - HELP NEEDED Summer of 2015 is almost over and Fall for the St. Louis Chapter will be very busy. The ASPE Symposium will be held October 1 thru Oct 4 in St. Louis at the Hyatt Regency at the Arch. Hope you are planning on attending. Technical education will be available from entry level to advanced plumbing design, from Introduction to water reuse systems to legal greywater reuse. It promises to be an educationally rewarding three days. You do not want to miss it. AYP will be having a busy time during the Symposium so I hope you are encouraging the young engineers in your companies to participate. Our AYP liaison and Vice President Legislative, Nicholas Hipp has been very busy planning the local festivities. Our presenter this month will be Jeffrey Shiner, P.E. from the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District speaking on Stormwater issues in the St Louis area and the relationship between those issues and the design of projects within the St. Louis region. I still am in need of suggestions for meeting presentations this year. From the Summer newsletter I only received one reply. I know you manufacturer representatives can provide names of people I can contact who would be willing to make such a presentation. Continuing education certificates for the last two meetings (April & May) which were not picked up or received by e-mail or were not available at the meeting, will be available at the September 1 meeting. See you there

Joint ARCSA/ASPE Storm water Harvesting Standard Receives ANSI Approval ASPE is pleased to announce that ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI 78-2015: Stormwater Harvesting System Design for Direct End-Use Applications was approved as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on August 3, 2015. Jointly developed by ASPE and the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA), ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI 78-2015 provides guidance on how to install and maintain a safe alternative to utility-provided water and to optimize stormwater utilization to reduce dependence on municipal potable water systems. It is intended to pick up where ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI 63-2013: Rainwater Catchment Systems left off in terms of collection surface. Both standards are available for download at aspe.org. 2015 IAPMO Swimming Pool Code is published. The 2015 Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa, and Hot Tub Code contains new requirements for secondary disinfection systems by ultraviolet light or ozone and for the installation, design, and ventilation of chemical feed equipment. Both the hard-copy and electronic versions are available for purchase via the IAPMO web store at http://goo.gl/WQKiXd St. Louis County Plumbing Code Review The St. Louis County Plumbing Code Review Committee is currently reviewing Chapter 6 of the 2015 uniform Code. The next St. Louis County Plumbing Code Review Committee meeting is September 9th at 7:30 am, in the 6th Floor Training Room, 41 S. Central Ave., St. Louis, MO 63105. The 6th Floor Training Room is located in the southwest corner of the building immediately adjacent to both the elevator lobby and the restrooms.

Well . . . September is here already and fall is around the corner!

Welcome to our newest members:

Stephen Kramme, with William Tao & Associates

and . . . Welcome back:

Ben Brooks, with Ross & Baruzzini We’re glad to have you and look forward to seeing you at out Chapter meetings!

Membership renewal notification always seems to be somehow lost, misplaced, forgotten

about, or simply overlooked (that’s why you get the emails from me). A lot of you have said you would still like to receive the hardcopy mailed notification, so guess what . . . its back. We are always trying to find a way to make it better or easier for you to receive your renewal notices, now in addition, ASPE is introducing a new way to receive your membership renewal notification! See the following recent announcement:

As part of ASPE’s ongoing efforts to streamline member services, members now have the option to

receive membership renewal reminders via automated SMS texts. If a member opt-in, two messages will be sent to their cell phone if the membership has not been renewed. The first message will be sent 15 days prior to the expiration date, and the second message will go out on the day of the expiration date. Anyone that participates will be provided with a number to call in their membership renewal payment in addition to a link that will connect the member to our online renewal system. To participate, go to aspe.org/user, log in with your username and password, add your cell phone number to your record, and make sure you click the “opt in” box, which will give ASPE permission to send members renewal reminders via SMS. Please note this does not replace all of our retention efforts, this is in addition to what we are currently doing, which includes emailing invoices and we have now gone back to mailing invoices to the member them as well.

And as always, I am here to help you with your membership and your renewals. Just send

me an email [email protected].
