QUOTE OF THE DAY
We make a living by what we get, but we
make a life by what we give.

Woofstcok Tri-County Humane Society
The Tri-County Humane Society's most important fundraising
event, the 27th Annual Woofstock Companion Walk, is coming up
on September 12th. Fundraise and have fun with us! This 5k Walk
for animals will be held at Wilson Park in St. Cloud from 9-
2pm, with the walk kicking off at 10am. There will be food, music,
exhibitors, a silent auction, games for pets and people, face paint-
ing, paw art, a hotdog eating contest and costume contest, FREE
bouncy house for kids, human (inflatable) jousting, a dunk tank,
and dog demos by the Twin Cities Disc Dog Club and Prodigy
Pups Dog Training.
Thinking about adopting, but don't have a pet yet? This is a
GREAT place to meet different breeds and talk to pet owners to see
why they love the breed they have. Pet owners LOVE to talk about
their pets. ;) The past few years have brought over 500 people and
300 pets to this event, so there are plenty of animals to meet!
More info and pledge forms may be found online at
www.tricountyhumanesociety.org, or by calling (320) 252-0896.

Reading Corps
Nearly one in three 3rd graders in Minnesota is failing to reach basic levels of literacy. You can help change
that.
As a Minnesota Reading Corps literacy tutor, you can help change this statistic and the lives of struggling read-ers. As the nation’s largest state AmeriCorps program, we are recognized because our tutors are getting results with the students they serve and are helping to ensure that all children are successful readers by the end of
third grade.
Become a tutor! We are recruiting full time and part time Literacy tutors in Saint Cloud and surrounding ar-eas. Tutors commit to one year of AmeriCorps service. They are parents, grandparents, recent college gradu-ates, mid-career professionals and retirees who may want to get more involved at our school, explore a new career in education, re-enter the workforce or give back
to their community. We train our tutors prior to service.
Benefits of serving include:
• Training and coaching in research-based literacy practice
methods
• Impacting the lives of children who need extra support to
become proficient readers
• Biweekly living allowance of about $544 (for full-time)
• Education award of up to $5,730
• Stronger connection to the Saint Cloud Community
Serve to grow. One year. This year.
Now is the time to apply for 2015-2016 positions. For more information about literacy tutor positions available please contact: Melissa Walton at 612-327-4776 or [email protected]
