READING SPACEPROJECT 4
Project Dictate: Utilizing the information gleaned during the Site Analysis Assignment, design a place for reading located within Riley Park.
Design: Arches form seating areas at the base while si-multaneously framing spaces of varying levels of privacy.
TECTONIC PRECEDENT INVESTIGATIONPROJECT 5
Project Dictate: Analyze an assigned ar-chitectural precedent building in terms of the salient tectonic component.
Precedent: Therme Vals; Peter Zumthor.
TECTONIC DRAWING:
FRAMING DEVICEPROJECT 6
Project Dictate: Utilizing the tectonic design element iden-tified in Project 5’s Precedent Analysis, design an ‘archi-tectural device’ to frame a ‘phenomenon’ in Riley Park.
Precedent: Therme Vals; Peter Zumthor.Tectonic: Angled CantileversElement to Frame: Rain
Design: Roof panels with calculated slope angles, direct rain water into a glass gutter system. The water travels in the glass gutter system until it drops through the building through a small opening thereby making a ‘column’ of rainwater.
RILEY PARK INTERPRETIVE CENTREPROJECT 7
Project Dictate: Synthesizing all previous design lessons, design an environ-mental interpretive centre in Riley Park. Program must include an indoor and outdoor presentation space, staff room, and various service rooms of speci-fied sizes.
Design: Situated primarily below grade level so as to impact the park minimally and maintain sight-lines, green-space and pathways in the park. By subtly raising and lowering the roof panels above grade, the green roof provides park seating areas and the Centre’s windowing emits light to the park at night.
