Band Booster Central Who are the Band Boosters?

Have you ever wondered, “Who are the Band Boosters”? Well...if you have a child in the North Harrison Band program and you have paid their band fee’s for the current year, then YOU are a Band Booster.

Officially, the North Harrison Band Boosters, Inc. are an incorporated 501 (c) (3) organization, registered with the Indiana Secretary of State and the U. S. Internal Revenue Service. The obligation of YOUR organization rests with the Executive Board of five members elected each year. In every sense of the word, The Band Boosters are a business...with contract employees, equipment, maintenance, inventory and revenue.

The purpose of the Band Boosters is to support the band. This is done through fundraising, assisting the staff in a variety of ways and helping at competitions.

Essentially, everything that happens with the band after the normal school day is funded by the Band Boosters. Major ways the Band Boosters support the band are:

Contracting ancillary staff Fundraising: annual car show, football and basketball concession stands Building props for the show Moving props and equipment before and after the show Chaperone travel to competitions Driving the semi and pulling trailers to competitions

Each season, over $70,000 passes through the Band Boosters accounts. This money comes primarily from fundraising and band fee’s. Band fee’s for marching band season is $225 per student. These fee’s apply to any student in marching band and guard. If your student is in Winter Guard or Winter Drum line additional fee’s apply to these programs during the winter. In addition to band fee’s, fundraising begins in August of each season with our annual car show. No matter who you are or what you can do, there is a place for you to

volunteer to help you child’s band program.

For Michael Harbeson, being a Marching Cougar runs in his blood. Graduating in 2007 from North Harrison, Michael spent five years in marching band. As a member of the low brass section, he admits he

wasn’t a star player. Although he did earn the title of Section Leader during his senior year. What Michael really enjoys is portraying the story to the audience, the visuals. He has spent the past four seasons working with and designing the visual side of the performance. This year he is the lead Visual Instructor.

When he’s not working with the North Harrison Marching Cougars, Michael works as a contractor at LG&E in Louisville.

Michael lives in Georgetown, Indiana and recently became engaged to his fiancé , Haley. The wedding is planned for next June.

In his spare time he enjoys working on one of his cars, like his 1999 Pontiac Trans Am. Recently he began to enjoy going to concerts as well.

Michael states, “This season I couldn’t be happier to work with these kids and see where we can take this journey Beyond the Road Less Traveled, together”.

As you pick up your student after band practice or go to a competition, take the time to tell Michael how happy you are that he is working with the Marching Cougars this year.

The Band Booster car show took place August 16rd. This year marked the 20th consecutive year for the car show, which is the largest, single fundraiser of the year. This years car show drew 55 cars.

The car show this year featured a full day of fun and excitement for all ages. Along with the wonderful classic cars, great food, there were several new attractions this year. Additions to the event this year included a yard sale, vendor booths and Kosair Charities Bicycle Rodeo.

20th Annual Car Show Is History

Familiar activities were a DJ playing the “oldies but goodies”, bouncie houses and childrens games, and cake walk. The high point for the parents is always in the afternoon when the band performs.

PayPal To Be

Accepted For

Band Fee’s

The Band Boosters will soon have a new method to make it easier for you to pay your band fee’s. We now have a PayPal account and will soon be able to offer you the ability to pay with a credit or debit card or your PayPal account. You do not need a PayPal account to use this method of payment.

One of the thinks the Executive Board want to do is make it as easy as possible for each family to pay band fee’s. Watch for more information coming soon.

North Harrison

Invitational To

Be Held

September 20th

The North Harrison Band will host their invitational band competition on September 20th. The Band Boosters need all the parents we can get to help. This years invitational should have some surprises, such as an exhibition by a college band, as well as the regional high school bands we have all come to love to listen to.

If you can help for part or all of the day, contact Evelyn Hunter to let your availability be known. Evelyn can be contacted through the Band Booster email at [email protected].

The car show is the largest single fundraiser of the year and requires months volunteer work before and all day during the car show.

Following the car show, we provide concessions for all North Harrison varsity football and basketball games. Football games require an average of twelve people for each game and basketball concessions require nine people each game. It’s nice to have more people available so that each game doesn’t require the same people. This makes the work load lighter for everyone.

If you’re not available for football and basketball concessions maybe your handy at building things. We need people every year to design and construct props. In the past we’ve needed carpenters, painters, electricians, and people who enjoy crafts. These props needs change each year as the program changes.

During marching season we need people who are qualified to drive a semi or who can pull a trailer with their truck. These skills are also needed for Winter Drumline and Winter Guard. Can you sew? We need people who can repair and alter uniforms throughout the year. Maybe you can’t build anything, sew or drive a truck. If you fit into this category, you would be the perfect chaperone on the busses for trips to competitions. Whatever talent you have or don’t have, we need you to help. However, one of the most important things you can do to help your child’s band is pay your band fee’s. Remember, without the support of you and the Band Boosters, there’s no band program after the normal school day. If you have difficulty paying your band fee’s due to financial difficulties, we have a plan for that also. If you

child qualifies for free or reduced school lunch, you qualify for a discount. But, due to school corporation and federal regulations, you must come to the Band Boosters and let us know. If you would like more information on a band fee discount, contact the Band Booster President or Treasure.

If you like to find out how you can support the band with your time and effort contact the Band Booster President and I’m sure she can find a place for you to volunteer.

Here is a list of Executive Board members. You can email any of them at [email protected]. Also, check out our web site at http://www.nhband.org. We will soon have a way for you to pay your band fee’s through our web site.
