Harold Named GSC Athletic Director

Steve Harold ’87, Head Coach of the Glenville State College Lady Pioneer basketball team, assumed the role of Athletic Director at his alma mater on April 15, 2005. He continues to lead the Lady Pioneers in addition to his new responsibilities as Athletic Director.

Beginning his 11th year at the helm of the Lady Pioneer program, Harold has established himself as one of the most successful and well-respected members of the women’s basketball coaching community. He is an active member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association (WBCA), serves on the East Region Advisory Committee and represents the WVIAC on the WBCA Conference Captain’s Committee.

At this time, ten new faces have been brought into the athletic department. These include a women’s volleyball coach, a women’s softball coach and two assistant football coaches among others.

A Glenville native, Steve received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Business Education in 1987 from Glenville State College. After graduating from GSC, he continued his education at Radford University where in 1990 he obtained his Master’s of Science in Physical Education and Health.

Steve and his wife, Renee Posey Harold ’93, reside in Glenville with their two daughters, Katie and Allie.

Although the game was called because of extremely heavy rain, several GSC alumni and friends braved the weather and enjoyed a picnic in the luxury box above the water drenched stadium and field. Those wanting to watch the game were: Keith Pritt ’58, Mike Reed ’64, Larry North, John Quintrell, Ted Hoover, John ’63 and Lynn Harris, Tommy Gunnoe ’64, Corky Griffith, Tammy Gunnoe-Moats ’81 and Ron Moats, Larry Legg and wife, GSC’s Head Football Coach Alan Fiddler, his wife, Amy and their twin daughters, Ernie Moore ’64 with son and great grandson, John Hoover ’66 and Debbie Reed Nagy, GSC’s Coordinator of Alumni Affairs. All was not lost because of the weather. Everyone had some great fellowship and lots of food. Call John Hoover if you would like to see more activity for GSC alumni and friends in the Kanawha Valley. We are considering a tailgate at one of the football games “in the valley” this fall, possibly either when GSC plays University of Charleston or at WV State. How about it? Steve Harold ’87, head women’s basketball coach and athletic director, praised Tracy’s record as well “Tracy was the missing piece to the puzzle that helped GSC Lady Pioneer Basketball become the WVIAC’s premier program and one to be reckoned with on the national level. During her three year stint playing in the program, her teams compiled a record of 87-12 (32-0 at home) and captured 3 regular season championships, 2 WVIAC tournament titles, an East Region Championship, and advanced to the NCAA II national semi-finals. Tracy was an unselfish player that made everyone around her better. She was a great leader, an outstanding role model, and a tremendous competitor. She simply would not let her team lose. The WVIAC has never seen a better point guard.”
