January 2003 Golfing superstar Nicholas Faldo, former world number one and three time champion of both the British Open and the US Masters, is not only Britain’s most cherished professional golfer, awarded an MBE by Queen Elizabeth in 1987, he is an example of how hard work and dedication can pay off. Faldo started golfing at age fourteen after he saw Jack Nicklaus on TV. He holds the Ryder Cup records for the most matches played and the most points won. In 1996, he started the Faldo Junior Series to nurture the next generation of Champions. Most recently the “Little Nick” Series had over 2,000 applicants from which 500, aged under 21, were chosen. The Institute is the first of its kind in Europe and incorporates the finest playing and practice facilities with the most innovative teaching programs available today. The flagship Faldo Golf Institute at Brocket Hall is central to Faldo’s plans to nurture golfing talent by providing access to sophisticated game improvement centres such as the flagship facility at Brocket Hall. Others will follow in Spain, Moscow and St. Kitts. “As I come from this part of the world,” said Faldo (home town of Welwyn Garden City) at the unveiling of his ambitious plans for the future, “I thought it would be nice to open my first UK institute here. It’s a great location, close to London. It really was an easy decision to have it here”. Brocket Hall Estate comprises 543 acres and features two championship golf courses, and the graciously appointed Melbourne Lodge with sixteen luxurious en- suite rooms. All suites have a view over the magnificent grounds of this historic estate steeped in the scandal and intrigue of the English Court from the 18 th century to the present day. Most recently Baroness Thatcher spent time at the Hall where she wrote her memoirs.
