NEWS FLASH

Our first up game was a great win over the Kats and it was good to finally have a solid hitout after an excellent preseason.

Well done to first gamers for the club in Cody Hancock, Cam Nowotny, Callum Miller and Courtney Layton who all played well on the night and it was a great team effort by all the boys.

Last week saw our first bus trip of the season and Swannies presented a very young side. We easily outclassed them and as the score indicated we ran away with an easy win. Adam Glass played well in the centre and excellent games to both Jai and Aaron Wheeler.

Lets keep up the good work this week against Wolves.

Karratha Falcons kicked off the 2009 season in superb form against local rivals the Kats in front of large home crowd and managed to win convincingly by 25 goals or 150 pts.

Newcomer to the club, Bryce Spratling was instrumental in setting up this win for the Falcons. With Ruckman Chris Wailu giving first option to the on ball division we were able to create many opportunities for the forward line. Congratulations to first time league players Josh Giles and Ash Gill.

The Falcons League team travelled to South Hedland on Saturday last to play the Swans in what was to be a very low scoring game. By comparison to the previous weeks performance, the game effort was considered to be disappointing for the Falcons, but credit must be given to the Swans who were well prepared, and applied great pressure to each contest, never letting an easy flowing game to exist.

It was a hard fought game with the Falcons remaining goalless in the first and third quarters but the Falcons managed to hang on in the end to come away with a 10 point win.

Four quarter efforts were difficult to find for naming better players for the night but in a good co-captains role were Rhett Thomas and Mick Formanczyk who both played well (two goals each) and Chris Wailu who continued his good form on the ball. Dean O'Brien was consistent and David Drummond also did what was asked of him while Cameron Nowotny picked up the players choice.

Other players that may represent the Karratha Falcons in future squads include Myles Mitchell, Cameron Nowotny, Craig O'Brien, Kane McKay, Mick Martyn, Ashley Gill, Michael James and Tyson Martin(who has just scraped in). They are all involved in the U/19 Landmark Championship Pilbara Representative team (to be coached by Richard Coates - Rio Tinto Pilbara Regional Football Development Officer) which is one of the biggest football events in Australia and the most significant carnival on the Country Football calendar. They have a reputation to live up to as Richard's team last year won their division. The Landmark Championships are held during the July school holidays, commencing each year with games on the Thursday and continuing on the Friday, with the colts finals being held on Saturday. We wish them well in their endeavors. They are currently in a squad of 40 and it is their performances over the next few weeks that could cement their chances in this team of 26. We wish Coatesy (and the team) all the very best for the Carnival, regardless of who makes it. It is good to see the younger blokes getting an opportunity like this and can be only better for the League (and us as a club).

FORMANCZYK TO CAPTAIN WACFL SQUAD coached again by Rod ‘Rocket’ Williams from Boddington Football Club in the Upper Great Southern Football League, who led WA Country to a third-place finish at last year’s bi-annual championship in Shepparton, Victoria. Most of the WA Country side has been replaced for this year’s hit-out at Fremantle Oval, with Williams keen to trial new talent ahead of next year’s national carnival, when teams will really get down to business.

Good luck to Rod 'Rocket' Williams and the WACFL squad best wishes to Mick - Do yourself (and the club) proud.

Congratulation must go to Mick formanczyk (3 time NPFL DeGrey Medallist and Club B& F and Club Co-Captain). Mick has not only made the West Australian Country Football League’s State squad, but he is also captain of this. They are gearing up for their first hit-out of the season with a game against the WA Amateur Football League’s State squad at Fremantle Oval on Friday, May 15.The contest will be played in preparation for next year’s Australian Country Football Championships in Canberra, and will see some of the top talent from country WA come together to take on the Amateurs in a clash under lights. The AMCAP / New Holland WACFL senior side will be

FOSTERING THE JUNIOR COMPETITIONI started here with the Falcons Junior Football Club in 1996 and have been involved with the committee of both the juniors and seniors for all but 1 year of that time. It has been great to see so many of our young footballers that started in the juniors now playing senior football. There are 34 players, under the age of 26, that are currently on our 2009 playing list that have come through our juniors of which 10 are playing in the league side. Both our current captains Rhett Thomas age 22 and Mick Formancyzk age 25, 3 time Degrey Medal Winner, are from our juniors. So to all the past coaches and parents who dragged themselves around after the kids well done.
