ABOUT THE FALCONS Saint Augustine’s University returns 22 student-athletes from last year’s squad. Top returners on offense are wide receiver/returner Michael Allen, fullback Justin Shaw, quarterback D.J. Johnson, lineman Donald Brinkley and placekicker/punter Sean Smith. Key defensive stalwarts are defensive back Darius Cole, defensive ends Darius Goodman, Chris Roberts and Chasz Cosby, and linebackers Trey King and Terry Warren. ABOUT THE HEAD COACH Tim Chavous is in his fi rst full season as head coach. Last season, Chavous was the Falcons head coach for eight games on an interim basis. He led the Falcons to their only victory of the season, a 31-24 win over crosstown rival Shaw University on Nov. 7, 2015. Chavous has been with the football program for four seasons, including three full seasons as running backs coach. Under his guidance, standout tailback Roderick Davenport II became the University’s career rushing leader in the modern era this past season, gaining 2,809 yards. The SAU Head Coach has been the team’s academic coordinator since he arrived at Saint Augustine’s University in 2012. The Falcons have thrived in the classroom under Chavous, winning three consecutive awards for having the highest grade point average among all CIAA football teams.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT North Carolina Central University is in its sixth full season on the Division I FCS level. The Eagles are current members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and former members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Ten Eagles were named to the 2016 Preseason All-MEAC team. Head Coach Jerry Mack is in his third season at NCCU. He is the fi rst NCCU head football coach to win 15 games after his fi rst two seasons.

BOYD TIED FOR CIAA RECEPTIONS LEAD Wide receiver Sam Boyd has 17 receptions after two games which ties him for the CIAA lead. He caught 10 passes for 66 yards and one touchdown - eight yards - against Carson-Newman last Saturday. The junior receiver is also tied for ninth in the conference in yards per game (53.0).

JOHNSON IS DUAL THREAT AT QUARTERBACK POSITION Quarterback D.J. Johnson has 363 total offensive yards after two games. He has 229 passing yards and 134 rushing yards. The sophomore quarterback leads the Falcons in rushing yards, yards per carry (4.3) and yards per game.
