Reality Check Cleans Up In lieu of the American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout (GASO), Falconer's Reality Check Club coordinated a cleanup at the Chautauqua Mall grounds on November 8 to collect as many stray tobacco products as possible that had turned into litter. After only one hour of cleaning up the perimeter of the mall, RC's members collected two pounds of "tossed aside" tobacco products including cigarette filters, cigarette butts, practically whole cigarettes and an empty can of chewing tobacco. The goal of Reality Check is to raise awareness of how the huge companies are targeting today's youth, how important it is to know the dangers of all tobacco products (whether it's first hand or second hand related,) and, specific to our area, to help create a healthier Chautauqua County in general.
Finding this much tobacco litter in only sixty minutes had the group floored and, as the bags got bigger, more people were aware of exactly what we were doing. We received many “thank you’s” from store clerks as they were walking out or polite nods from strangers who were acknowledging what we were doing. Five Guys even gave the students free milkshakes for doing such a great job! Miss Matecki, the adviser for FCS's Reality Check, noted that there was still plenty of tobacco litter to be cleaned up after the hour. However, the goal of the event was to have set proof of the amount picked up in 60 minutes to show to the mayor and hopefully propose another ordinance for a Tobacco Free area of the county. Jamestown and a few other parks in the area have ordinances done.

Pumpkin Playfulness with Falconer Honor Society! ‘Twas the season… for pumpkin decorating! In October, Falconer Honor Society partnered with the Ellington Library to help local children decorate pumpkins! A handful of Honor Society students
donated their time on a Saturday morning to help students with painting and gluing, transforming pumpkins into funny felines, playful puppies, and mischievous Minions. It is always a worthwhile endeavor to give back to kids in our communities!

Family Fun Night On Saturday, October 27, AIS held its Family Fun Night. Students and parents enjoyed a brief summary of what AIS is and what services it provides to their children. The informational session was followed by make-and-take math games that were created by the parents along with their children. The AIS students and their guests also enjoyed cider and donuts, provided by the PTO. It was a great way to make the home and school connection between teachers, students and their families.
