Falcon Newsletter JANUARY 29, 2021
FROM THE DESK OF MR. KIPPING
Dear Falcon Family,
Each year the Lamar Classroom Teachers Association selects a Teacher and
Paraprofessional of the year for the District. We are proud to announce the Foster
High School finalists, Mr. Techmanski, Teacher of the Year and Mrs. LaMothe,
Paraprofessional of the Year. These two fine staff members have impacted hundreds,
if not thousands of students at Foster and we are grateful for their service to our
community. Give them both a shout out when you see them.
We are in the middle of subject selection for all students at Foster. Many parents
have questions and concerns about picking classes. It is a process that takes many
weeks. Please be patient when asking specific questions of counselors. They are
meeting with each student individually over the next few weeks. When we get to that
process the counselors will be glad to contact you. Subject selection is a living
process and changes will and can be made well into the summer.
Lastly, the window to change your learning modality is OPEN NOW until February
5th. If you are going to change to either virtual or face to face it needs to be done now.
We will not honor changes after February 5th.
Have a great weekend.
Protect the Nest!!
Jerry Kipping, FHS Principal

Did you Fail a Class 1st Semester??
FHS is offering an opportunity to “recover” credit to any student who failed 1st semester.
Students will be assigned a credit recovery on-line course to recover credit for six weeks 1,
six weeks 2, and/or six weeks 3. Students who are successful in completing the on-line
course will earn a maximum grade of a 70 for the recovered six weeks.
This credit opportunity for 20-21 fall semester is available to virtual and on-campus students,
grades 9-12. The deadline to sign-up is TODAY, January 29th.
Please click here for more information and to see which classes are eligible.
Hot Spots are Available
At the beginning of the school year surveys were sent to all LCISD families and students asking if you
were in need of internet service. If you responded “yes” to the survey, you are still eligible to receive a
hot spot and 12 months of internet service. All required LCISD forms must be completed online
through the Parent Skyward Access Center. These forms need to be filled out prior to picking up a hot
spot. If you have any questions, please contact Kara Day at [email protected]

WIT Students Visit TTU and Tesla, Virtually
The Foster WIT program participated in a virtual field trip to Texas Tech University (TTU). The field
trip began with a presentation from the TTU Visitor's Center. The presentation discussed the
application process, scholarship opportunities, tuition, and campus life. Then, a TTU student led a
virtual tour of campus; the tour included various academic buildings, dorms, and athletic
complexes. After touring TTU, the Foster WIT program watched a video tour of the Tesla
factory. The 2019-2020 WIT program visited the Toyota manufacturing facility in San Antonio last
year, so the returning WIT members compared the Tesla factory to the Toyota manufacturing
facility. Although university and industry field trips look different this year, the Foster WIT program
had a fantastic time!
Course Selection Information FHS counselors hosted a Course Selection Parent Night via Zoom this week. If you were
unable to attend, please click on the links below to receive all information that was shared
that night. You will need to know your child’s Canvas log-in information to retrieve some of
this following information. Reminder that the “Career Plan” in the student’s Skyward portal
is available through February 6th. If your student missed meeting with Course Selection, no
worries...counselors will be meeting with each student one-on-one before Spring Break to
verify courses, make changes, and answer any additional questions.

enrolled in 11th grade. The district will cover the cost of the SAT School Day and students will
not need to pay. All on campus juniors for the 5th six weeks will automatically be registered

this link if they plan to report to campus on March 3rd to take this test.
Junior—SAT School Day Registration
