GenreFrom my audience research I found that the most popular genre of music was rock, so I am going to create a rock magazine because I appealed to the larger amount of people. Although my rock magazine is also going to contain sub-genres of rock like punk-pop, metal, classic rock etc.

There weren’t enough answers for all of the other genres to base a magazine off them specifically. The bands that I would include in my magazine to fit my genre are bands such as, Fall Out Boy, AC/DC, Blink-182, Bring Me The Horizon, Panic! At The Disco, Bon Jovi, Slash, All Time Low etc.

What Will It ContainMy magazine will contain information about both old and new rock bands. There will be information on topics such as tour schedules, new album releases, album/song/live artist reviews, upcoming work from different artists because they all relate to my target audience. Through my surveys and interviews I have carried out I found that my target audience enjoy free items from their magazines. The most popular items were posters and CDs, so I am also going to include a poster section inside my magazine but offer a free CD with every few issues, also putting in some discount codes for programmes such as iTunes or Spotify, so that it will appeal to my target audience.

Colours and StyleThe most popular colours were red, black and white. I don’t want to do a monotone magazine because it doesn’t represent my genre, so I am going to make Red the main colour however using other colours such as blue and yellow. There will be a lot of black and white still in the magazine as accents to text and pictures however they won’t be the main colours running through my magazine.

The style of my magazine will be very informal and relaxed, because my target audience is a younger age (13-20) I don’t want my magazine to be too serious because if it is too serious then it won’t appeal to my target audience. By having a more friendly atmosphere in my magazine it will appeal to a much younger audience because it won’t feel too mature but also won’t be completely immature. It will have a sophisticated playful look to it and also have a friendly feel to make it appeal to both younger and older parts of my target audience.

My magazine will look similar to magazines already popular with the same age range as much target audience and genre, for example Kerrang!

Publication and PriceMy magazine will be published monthly, this is because magazines such as Mojo and Q were found to be the most popular in my survey and they are both published on a monthly basis. Since my target audience were answering this survey it shows which magazines they prefer, which are monthly published ones, so this also appeal to my target audience.

Most people said that they would pay between £2-3 for a magazine, because my magazine is going to be published monthly so it my magazine is going to cost £3 because there will be more in it than a weekly magazine, whereas if my magazine was published weekly I would be retailing for around £2-2.50.

MastheadFor my masthead it is going to be the same very issue, the colours aren’t going to change and neither is the style of it. I wanted something that looked fun and not too serious which appeals to my younger audience, however I wanted something that appears more to an older generation as well.

Soundnote

I thought this font was a little basic for the type of Magazine I am making, so I’m not going to use this one.Soundnote

Font: Aharoni

I thought this font could have been a possibility because the ‘d’ looked similar to a music note, however I chose not to use this font because it is also very plain and doesn’t portray the feel of my magazine very well.

This is the final font that I am going to use, I chose this font because it isn’t as simple at the others but it still has an informal look. It is also fun and looks inviting, it is going to appeal to my target audience because of this so this is why I am choosing this font for my final masthead.

Style SheetThese will be the main colours running throughout my magazine, however there will be other colours in the issues these will just be the colours that will reappear on ever issue.Soundnote

Headers

Cover lines

Font: Magneto

This is my masthead, this will not change colour or style with each issue of the magazine.

Font: Eras Bold ITC

This is the font I am going to use for my masthead, however this may change each issue considering the colour scheme of each other and the feel of each issue.

Font: Impact

I chose this as my cover line font because since both of my header and Masthead fonts are so bold I wanted a thinner font for my cover lines, so that there isn’t as much distraction away from the masthead as the first thing people see. These will change colour accordingly to the theme of the issue and what is colour suits the background better.
