The BirthplaceThe recently expanded and remodeled Birthplace at Fairview Lakes Medical Center welcomes 900 babies each year. We accommodate families in a quiet, friendly and secure environment. Expectant mothers give birth in private labor and delivery rooms and recover in rooms with space for them and their loved ones to get acquainted with the newest member of the family. Our medical staff has advanced training in delivering multiples and a certified lactation counselor is available while mothers are in the hospital and after they go home. If a baby needs more complex care, we partner with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital, where fragile newsborns have access to the most advanced care possible.
Care of children
Fairview Lakes Medical Center is child-friendly. Play areas are plentiful and conveniently located. Children’s videos, books and distraction toys are available in the emergency department and other areas, and regular visits by several pet “volunteers” brighten the day for children and adults alike. More than a score of on-site family medicine and pediatric physicians devote themselves to the care of children and families. Pediatric subspecialists from the University of Minnesota make regular visits. Children and parents whose needs are greater have access to the Twin Cities largest children’s hospital, University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.
Cancer care
Fairview Lakes Medical Center and University of Minnesota Physicians work together to bring state-of-the-art cancer diagnosis, treatment and related services to residents of east central Minnesota, western Wisconsin and the northeast metro area. A multidisciplinary team of medical professionals provides cancer patients and their families with convenient, comprehensive, individualized care delivered with compassion and understanding.
Our physicians and staff with advanced training provide medical oncology, hematology, chemo/infusion therapy, case management and radiation therapy services. At the Fairview Lakes Oncology and Infusion Therapy Clinic and adjacent University of Minnesota Physicians Radiation Therapy Center, teamwork ensures
coordination of care throughout the patient’s journey. Our on-site pharmacy, rehabilitation, imaging, surgical and palliative care services, coupled with nearby home health and hospice care and certified lymphedema therapy, mean each patient has access to the services he or she needs, close to home.
Surgical services
Our general and specialty surgical procedures include many laparoscopic and same-day surgeries, such as appendectomy and gall bladder removal, head and neck, ear, nose, throat, prostate, bladder, breast, bowel, ophthalmic and gynecological surgeries as well as orthopedic surgeries of the ankle, hand, knee and hip including total joint replacements. Staff and volunteers in our new surgery center attend to the needs of patients and their families and take pride in providing exceptional patient care utilizing the latest medical technology. Recovery may be enhanced by our RehabilitationServicesDepartment, whichofferscomprehensivehand, speech, physical, and occupational therapy at the medical center and several nearby community clinic locations.
Emergency services
Fairview Lakes Medical Center provides a team of specially trained emergency physicians and staff 24 hours a day, every day. We offer complete emergency resuscitation equipment, an adjacent intensive care unit, on-site surgical staff, and X-ray, MRI and CT scanners to quickly and accurately diagnose illness or injury. We have been recognized as a Premier Award for Quality winner for the treatment of heart attacks. Specially trained pediatric nurses and child-friendly pain medications are available to children in our care.
When it comes to treating stroke and heart attack, time and experience matter. That’s why we partner with Fairview Southdale’s nationally recognized, award-winning Heart, Stroke & Vascular Center.
When you need non-emergency medical care but can’t wait for a clinic appointment, walk-in Urgent Care is available at Fairview Lakes Medical Center from noon to 8 p.m. each day. Use the emergency entrance. If you aren’t sure whether you need to see a doctor, call our 24-hour Nurseline at 651-982-7700.
