Friday, October 12th, this will be a Mystery trip.Yes, Mary Ann Tully has put together another mystery trip for October.

On this mystery trip there will not be much walking or standing and it’s only about an hour drive from Fairfield. Afterward, we will be going for lunch on the Kemah boardwalk. We will have about two to two and half hours to have lunch at one of the many fine restaurants, and some time even to browse through the shops or watch the boats. The cost will be $10.00 per person plus the cost of your lunch, along the boardwalk. To get your name on the list for this trip call: Mary Ann Tully at 281-256-2342. Checks are to be made out to: Fairfield 50 Plus and are due no later than October 5th. Checks can be given to Mary Ann Tully, or Mary Lou Cook, and can also be mailed to Mary Ann Tully at 20310 Vaulted Chestnut Lane, Cypress, Texas 77433. We will depart from the Fairfield Village Parking Lot promptly at 8:45 a.m. Please be there by 8:30 a.m.

OUR NOVEMBER BUS TRIP PLANS ARE FOR: Wednesday, November 14th, this will be a trip to New Braunfels.

We will be travelling to New Braunfels to visit the Conservation Plaza owned by the New Braunfels Conservation Society. Docents will give us a tour of some of the priceless structures that have been preserved. Furnishings of some of the structures include period pieces, mostly of Texas or German origin. We will then proceed to the Gruene Historic District and to the Gristmill Restaurant. You will then be free to wander the district and have lunch whenever you please. German immigrants established this German village on the banks of the Guadalupe River before 1850. The cost will be $5.00 per person plus the cost of your lunch in Gruene Historic District. OUR OCTOBER ACTIVITIES PLANS: Thursday, October 11: The Monthly Planning Committee: Meeting is

at 1:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Trails Club House. Everyone is invited to attend these meetings and participate in our upcoming trip plans. We really need to see more participation, especially from those that are taking trips. In fact, without more participation we may be forced to cut back on some trips, possibly one every other month. Then later, around 6:30 p.m. that evening, we have our Monthly Pot Luck. It is also at the Lakeside Trails Club House. However, plan on being there early. Doors open around 6:00 p.m. for socializing and fellowship. Then plan on staying and join many of our members that stay to play games or socializing after the meal and to finish up the deserts.

Tuesday, October 16: Game Night at the Cooks’ House: It starts around 6:30 p.m. Just bring a little snack and a healthy appetite. This is always a fun evening with great fellowship. The directions are in the Activity page on our website and will also be in our October, 14 weekly newsletter.

Thursday, October 25: Game Night at Lakeside Trails Club House: It starts around 6:30 p.m., and we have plenty of room at the club house. We would like to see you there to enjoy an evening of games and fellowship with us. Just bring a little snack and plan on having lots of fun. There are some card games, some games that the members bring and of course dominoes.

Bradford Creek, Chappell Ridge & Garden Grove HomeownersA very important proposal is coming up for vote early this October.

The proposal is to combine the financial assets of Bradford Creek, Chappell Ridge & Garden Grove into a newly named Fairfield Central Neighborhood Association, Inc.

A Transition Committee has been looking at how best to govern this community after Friendswood Development completes the build-out of Fairfield and departs. The proposed merger is basically a financial arrangement that does not change the identity of the individual neighborhoods. Based on the present financial arrangement these three neighborhoods have like costs for audits & tax returns, insurance, management fees, office supplies, etc. The combined Fairfield Central finances would have one set of costs eliminating approximately $12,000/year in unnecessary fees per merged association. By combining the finances,

the neighborhood dues for Bradford Creek at $380.00 and Garden Grove at $340.00 would be reduced to the same $300.00 current assessment for Chappell Ridge. The current estimate of a $300.00 assessment should satisfy the needs of Fairfield Central for at least two years.

Another problem with the present setup is the disparity in size of the various neighborhoods in Fairfield. As this community was developed, the number of lots in a neighborhood association was dictated by the economic situation at the time. The neighborhoods vary in size from 287 lots each for The Lakes and The Trails to the much larger 1561 lots in Fairfield South. At the present time as shown in the following chart, Chappell Ridge has only 5.66% and Garden Grove only 7.66% of the neighborhood lots and votes in the master association as of December 31, 2011.

The only available area for additional lots is in Fairfield Village South which will eventually have approximately 2000 lots. The percentages for most neighborhoods will be less than shown as Fairfield Village South adds lots and gains in percentage.

Each neighborhood property owner pays an assessment to their neighborhood association in January each year. In July, each property owner pays an assessment to the master association, Fairfield Village Community Association (FVCA). This master association is responsible for the overall maintenance of common areas including green belts, boulevards, lakes, parks, etc. The new Fairfield Central Neighborhood Association, Inc. would speak with one stronger voice (33% of the decision) in the operation

of the master association. And remember, your assessment is almost double to the FVCA so the power of the combined voice is meaningful when it comes to decisions that ultimately affect that assessment.

Combining the three neighborhoods is a common-sense solution to controlling costs and maintaining a voice in the community. We encourage each homeowner to vote YES for the formation of Fairfield Central Neighborhood Association, Inc. a combination of Bradford Creek, Chappell Ridge and Garden Grove.

Our September events included our monthly Pack Meeting (3rd Thursday of the month) where we officially welcomed our new Scouts and re-registered our existing Scouts. Our Pack consists of a wonderful group of parents who volunteer and dedicate their time and resources to ensure a solid scouting program for our sons. The Leaders of Pack 533 would like to thank all of the parents who have taken an active role in the Pack as a Leader, an Event Chair or Event Helper to make our Pack GO!

Tiger Day sponsored by Big Cypress District and the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department was a blast. Our new Tiger Scouts and their Akelas enjoyed the Station Tour, Freddie the Fire Truck, a Fire Safety Trailer with smoke effects, a Fire Extinguisher and Fire Hose Demo. Tigers also earned their Physical Fitness Belt Loop and created

a Fire Escape Plan and a personalized Emergency Phone Number card! POPTOBER 2012 is here! Our community can help to fund our

scouting program through the first of two fundraising events that are allowed which provide the only income to support our Pack, our events and to purchase awards earned by our Scouts. Look for Pack 533 Scouts selling Trail's End Popcorn and purchase delicious holiday gifts that share the message of Scouting on each bag. When our Scouts go through the process of fundraising, it truly prepares them for life by imparting knowledge, self-confidence, ethics, leadership and citizenship skills while "earning their own way² since they know that 70% of the cost will support Scouting programs in our Sam Houston Area Council. Our team, Cousins 4 a Cure, will be taking part in JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes for the 10th year! We hope you will join us, for this fun yet very important day, on Saturday, October 27th, 2012, 8:00 am at Reliant Stadium.

Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people. It has been affecting Matthew since 2002 (9 mos.) and Jake since 2008 (16yrs.). Matthew is a 6th grader at Salyards Jr. High and loves playing sports. Jake is a graduate from Cy-Woods H.S. and is in his 3rd year of college at U.T.S.A. where he’s currently the president of the Ultimate Frisbee team.

Diabetes is Jake and Matthew’s worst enemy! How would you like to have your enemy follow you around every second of the day or have to prick your finger 5 – 8 times per day (that’s approx. 2,000 finger pricks a year)? Diabetes never goes away…even when you’re sleeping. If not treated properly, you face the risk of seizures, commas, or long term complications of kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage, liver damage, and even death.

But because of help from people like you we are closer every day to a cure! Through donations researchers are advancing more and more. Both boys have a device (CGM) that checks their blood sugars every 5 minutes! Matthew is also on an insulin pump that administers insulin on an hourly basis and when he consumes any

amount of food. Jake still administers insulin through shots at least 5 - 7 times a day.

Fairfield area middle school theater students are Broadway bound in June of 2013. The students and their chaperones will be travelling with Smithsonian Student Travel Company for a 5 day educational trip to discover Broadway and the Arts in New York City, and are looking forward to learning about theater in the Big Apple. The trip includes the opportunity to tour important theater landmarks such as the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Radio City Music Hall, NBC studios, as well as see Broadway shows and attend theater workshops. In addition, the students will visit many other NYC historical sites such as the World Trade Center site, Statue of Liberty, and the Empire State Building. The sponsors hope to make this a tradition to go every 2 years so that every middle school theater student who has completed 7th and/or 8th grade theater has the opportunity to experience the trip of a lifetime. This is not a school sponsored trip so the students have created their own group called Fairfield Theatre and are working

hard to raise funds to cover some of the tuition for the trip. Fairfield Soccer Association has generously allowed the group to set up concession stands at both Central Park and Weaver fields for Saturday morning soccer games throughout the season. The students are also offering preorder team snack sales for any busy parent who would like the option of convenience. Look for the white tents where the students are busy selling concessions and entertaining the crowds, and ask about ordering team snacks for future games. In addition, Fairfield Baptist Church has allowed the group to use their facilities for our meetings along with some much appreciated office support. Good Shepard Methodist church has been a generous sponsor to our fundraising efforts also. We are very thankful for the support from FSA and both Fairfield Baptist and Good Shepard Methodist Church, as well as the generous community of families in our area.

WRAP (Wildcats Right After Prom) is Cy-Woods High School’s parent-driven Project Prom organization. The purpose of WRAP is to provide a drug and alcohol-free all-night party for the graduating seniors and their guests after their prom. WRAP 2013 is already busy planning the numerous fundraising activities that will raise money for the WRAP party on May 24 at Dave & Buster’s on I-10 near 610. CY-FAIR KIWANIS CLUB SEEKS NEW MEMBERS

Continuing to put the focus on mobility challenges and solutions in the region, the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce has announced that Texas Department of Transportation Executive Director, Phil Wilson will deliver the keynote address as the Chamber’s 2012 Mobility Forum on Nov. 1. As executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation, Wilson manages, directs, and implements TxDOT policies, programs, and operating strategies. He also represents TxDOT before the Texas Legislature and other entities. He is the department’s first executive director since legislation was passed in 2009 removing the requirement that the position be occupied by a professional engineer.

Along with Wilson, the three-hour Mobility Forum and luncheon will bring together additional high-level transportation executives who will address the group in speakers’ panel starting at 10:30 a.m. Additionally, a morning CEO Roundtable was added this year in order to meet one on one with local CEOs and find out what specific mobility issues they are facing. The CEO Roundtable will be by invitation only and is sponsored by Dannenbaum Engineering.

The Cy-Woods High School Crimson Cadettes Booster Club will host its 3rd annual golf tournament on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Houston National Golf Club. Proceeds from this event will directly benefit the Crimson Cadette Drill Team and help fund their activities for the 2012-2013 school year. The tournament will be a 4-person scramble format, with a shotgun start beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by dinner and awards at 6:00 PM. Individual and team entries are welcome, as well as various levels of sponsorships. The organization has a 501 (C) 3 designation and tax ID information is available upon request. FOOD DRIVEThe Harris County Public Library Fairbanks Branch will hold a

food drive from October 10-20 to benefit the food pantry at Cypress Assistance Ministries.
