It seems the year just blew by us. When you reach the end of the year, it's my experience three things happen: You speed up, then you tally up, and then, all things being fair (no pun intended), you find some time for fun and fellowship. The first two are pretty much inevitable, but the third one can sometimes get by on you. This last one seems out of place because the La Porte County Fair is coming up and we need all hands on deck, but it is true none the less. Well, I want to remind you as fair week approaches to enjoy the fun and fellowship of being together. We are in this ministry together and sometimes ministry can ask a lot of you. No matter how much you do, you know there will be people who will always want more. They will want flashy worship or better messages. I have found over the years if you make your church welcoming and a place where everyone enjoys being together, others will want the same. Welcome, everyone.

It is hard to believe my wife and I have been at Door Village

United Methodist Church for an entire year. It seems the year

just blew by us. When you reach the end of the year, it's my

experience three things happen:

You speed up,

then you tally up,

and then, all things being fair (no pun intended), you find

some time for fun and fellowship.

The first two are pretty much inevitable, but the third one can

sometimes get by on you. This last one seems out of place

because the La Porte County Fair is coming up and we need

all hands on deck, but it is true none the less. Well, I want to

remind you as fair week approaches to enjoy the fun and

fellowship of being together.

We are in this ministry together and sometimes ministry can

ask a lot of you. No matter how much you do, you know

there will be people who will always want more. They will

want flashy worship or better messages. I have found over

the years if you make your church welcoming and a place

where everyone enjoys being together, others will want the

same.

Don’t get me wrong – outreach is important. But we need to carve out time for one

another. When others see how much we like being together, they will want to be a

part of this.

Outreach without this atmosphere leads to many who come but do not stick around.

I am proud to say, over the past year we have had several come and they have

stayed. They are now a part of this body of believers.

It is perfectly alright to have fun with one another. In fact, it is very evangelical. I am

proud of this church because we do have fun together. So, let’s see where this will

lead us in the coming year. Let us enjoy one another and all who will join us.
