Tonight's Objective: Apply for student aid via the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and
Pennsylvania's State Grant Program (PHEAA)
Federal Student Aid- ensures that all eligible individuals
benefit from federally funded financial assistance. Provides
money for college to eligible students and families in the form
grants and loans. (Maximum award $ 5,550 in 2011-2012)
PHEAA- provides grants to eligible Pennsylvania residents
who are in need of financial assistance to attend college.
(Maximum award $ 3,541 in 2011-2012)
Documents/Items Needed........
•Parent and student social security numbers
•Parent and/or student Alien Registration Number (if
applicable)
•Parent and student 2012 W-2 Forms
•Parent and Student 2012 Federal Income Tax Return
•Current bank statements (checking and savings)
•Current business and farm records
•Copies of untaxed income for 2012 (i.e. amount of any
unemployment, welfare benefits or social benefits
received)
•Personal Identification Number (PIN) to sign the
FAFSA electronically
Tips....
1. Apply early --you can use income
estimates.
2. Parent whom student lived with the most
is responsible for completing FAFSA.
3. Enter name and social security exactly as
it appears on social security card.
4. f you are estimating income, you must go
back, and use IRS data retrieval tool.
5. Double check all social security numbers
and dates of birth.

6. Select colleges in order of preferences
(include PA college)
7. Select print or e-mail confirmation page at
the end of FAFSA
8. Link to PHEAA immediately at the end
(print and mail the last page immediately)
9. Relax and ask questions!
