Guest speaker biographies
Professor Lode Godderis Prof. Dr. Lode Godderis is professor occupational medicine
at the Centre for Environment and Health of the University
of Leuven. He investigates the impact work on health by
unravelling the underlying epigenetic mechanism and also
the reverse how health can affect work (dis)ability. He
leads the division of the Laboratory of Occupational and
Environmental Hygiene. The lab analyses air samples and
biological samples of workers. He is also director
Knowledge, Information and Research at IDEWE (External
Service for Prevention and Protection at Work) where he
leads a team specialized in questionnaire studies on
psycho-social risks and analysis of medical data for
companies and sectors. He is the current chair of
Modernet; an international network for development of
techniques for discovering trends in work-related diseases
and tracing new and emerging risks.

Finian Murray
Finian Murray is the Men’s Health Development Officer
with Health Promotion & Improvement, Health Service
Executive, Dublin North East and Advisory Group member
of both Healthy Ireland – Men and Men’s Health Forum in
Ireland. His role involves the continuation of men’s health
work which first begun during the lifetime of the National
Men’s Health Policy 2008 -2013 and continues through the
action plan Healthy Ireland – Men 2017-21. He is one of the
authors of Engage - National Men’s Health Training, which
includes Engage Unit 6 - Connecting with Young Men on
Mental Health and Wellbeing and Engage Unit 7- Middle
Age Men and Mental Health. He co-ordinates, mentors and
delivers the Engage programme.
He has a number of peer-reviewed and other publications
in men’s health. Prior to his current position, Finian worked
as Project Leader for the North Eastern Health Board and
as Community Development Officer for the Irish
Wheelchair Association. He has a Master’s Degree in Adult
and Community Education from NUI Maynooth.

Anne Farrell
Anne is the Executive Workplace Health Promotion Officer
with the CIE transport group (Bus Eireann, Dublin Bus and
Irish Rail), Advanced facilitator in promoting health and
wellness, Health/Life/NLP coach, and a member of
Workplace Wellness Ireland.
Anne has developed effective health promotion strategies and programs to all 3 companies. She has delivered a few programs in Dublin Bus called Gut Busters and a one year program called Life Fit to 500 Irish rail and Bus Eireann employees. She also works with employees as a health/life coach using neuro linguistic programming and life coaching techniques.
• Human factors and its influence on the health of a worker is an area she would like to develop more within the companies. Has in the past lectured with the Aviation Authority on their wellness component of their Human Factor course.
• She works closely with the Men’s Development Unit and HSE in delivering Men’s Health 1 day training course called ENGAGE to all 3 companies and to other men’s groups within the community.
• She continues to work with management and key stakeholders in developing wellness policies to support staff. She also offers masterclass workshops in wellness and a variety of others workshops under various topics such as sleep and recovery, nutrition, mindset, unplugging from technology and health, managing shift work and exercise etc
Prior to her present role, she has worked as an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor for IBM, Toyota and Intel. In 2018 she completed a masters (Hons) in Advanced Facilitation Skills in Promoting Health and Wellness from Waterford Institute of Technology.

Donal Scanlan
The Mental Health First Aid Ireland Manager has been
working and studying as a professional in the area of
mental health and well-being for 20 years. He leads the
team at MHFA Ireland to who bring mental health training
all over Ireland. Their aim is to create more supportive and
informed communities and workplaces. An occasional
contributor to digital, television and print media, often
speaking publicly on mental health at conferences, schools,
colleges and the corporate world and has guest lectured at
the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and University
College Ireland. Most recently he was a guest speaker at
the Oireachtas Forum on Mental Health and the Garda
Commissioners Conference. He has regularly worked with
fellow thought leaders supporting and contributing to See
Change (National Partnership on Stigma Reduction), Green
Ribbon mental health campaign, Cycle Against Suicide and
Spunout.ie.

Prof Gaye Cunnane, PhD, MB, FRCPI
Prof Gaye Cunnane, PhD, MB, FRCPI, is a Clinical Professor
of Medicine and Rheumatology at Trinity College Dublin
and a Consultant Rheumatologist at St James’s Hospital.
After graduation from TCD, she completed her basic
specialist training at St James’s and its affiliated hospitals
before moving to St Vincent’s Hospital and UCD to do her
higher speciality training and her PhD studies. She then
undertook a 3 year clinical and research fellowship at the
University of California, San Francisco. An 18-month
sojourn as consultant and senior lecturer at the University
of Leeds was followed by her appointment to St James’s
Hospital Dublin. Additionally, she has held the roles of
National Speciality Director for Rheumatology, Programme
Director for Basic Specialist Training for the TCD scheme,
Post-graduate Director for Education at St James’s Hospital,
and is a past-president of the Irish Society for
Rheumatology. She has recently been appointed Director
for Health and Wellbeing at the Royal College of Physicians
of Ireland. Her current research interests are focused on
lifestyle risks in the rheumatic diseases.

Mr Conor Lyons

Dr. Lali Japaridze
Dr Japaridze trained as a physician at the Tbilisi State
Medical University in Georgia (then USSR), she holds an
MSc in Occupational Health from the Institute of
Occupational and Environmental Medicine of the University
of Birmingham (UK). After practicing internal medicine in
Georgia, she joined the oil and gas industry in 1997. In her
earlier years, Dr Japaridze worked as Health manager for
BP in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Russia. In these roles she
established and managed health provision in often remote
and challenging environments, including the Caspian
offshore, for major export pipeline projects from
Azerbaijan to Turkey, and advising TNK-BP in Russia. In
subsequent years, Dr Japaridze oversaw health provisions
for BP in Europe and Southern Africa, and worked in
company’s Executive office where she gained broad
business experience. In her current role, Dr Japaridze is
responsible for occupational, public and environmental
health matters for BP in the Eastern Hemisphere. Her
current areas of focus are mental health and employee
wellbeing, and travel health. She has recently been
appointed to the role of Honorary clinical advisor for the
Society of Occupational Medicine.
