Important Information: 2016 Intake (Read this carefully before you complete the application form)

The Application Process: BSocSci Honours in Psychology Programme

This document provides information about the application process to applicants for the BSocSci Honours in Psychology Programme. Please note that the programme comprises of a one year full-‐time academic year with classes presented in English and during day-‐time only. Class attendance is compulsory and not negotiable, the department also does not offer an internship associated with this degree/programme.

The Application Process

Section 1: Compulsory Documents

1 It is VITAL to submit ALL the correctly completed documents as mentioned below in point number 2

2 Compulsory application documents which need to be completed and submitted when applying for admission to the university (both Internal and External Students): o Complete the applicant part of the Check List (page 5) o Complete all sections of the Departmental Application Form (page 6) o ID Photo (attach in the right-‐hand side block marked “Compulsory ID Photo” (application form) (page 6) o Complete your marks on the application form (compulsory) (page 6) o Attach a copy of your ID (green barcoded or new ID card) (compulsory) o Attach a copy of your Matric Certificate (compulsory) o Attach a copy of your Academic Record (compulsory)

Please take note: Academic Records o UP students can submit their ClickUP Academic Records (printed from the “Student Centre” on the UP

Portal) o External students need to submit a full academic record from their respective universities. Should they

be in the process of completing their 3rd year they also need to submit a progress report (test or assignment marks) of modules still being completed

o It is also very important to note that students need to submit their outstanding marks once completed to [email protected] before selection can be finalised

3 External Students: The above mentioned documents (point 2) must be accompanied by a R 300.00 application fee (non-‐refundable) and can be paid in the following mannner: o Posting / Courier of Documents:

Purchase a postal order from any post office or postnet made out to the University of Pretoria (only) when sending the documents via postal / courier services. However we suggest that you rather courier the documents as the postal service strikes could result in your application missing the deadline.

o Personal Submission of Documents Go to the General Enquiries Counter at the Client Service Centre (Humanities Building). The counter personnel will check your application and supporting documents. Thereafter you take the documents to the Cashier Counter and submit it to one of the personnel on duty. They will issue a receipt and keep your documents for capturing and dispatch to student administration.

o Online payment can also be made via the UP Online System when applying online for the BSocSci Honours (Psychology) Programme, however it is very imporant to remember to submit the check list, departmental application form, a copy of your ID, academic record and matric certificate


o Delivery Address for Postal or preferably Courier Services (external students only): - University of Pretoria

4. Internal (UP) Students: o Once you have completed the Departmental Application Form, attach your Academic Record (printed

from “Student Centre”), and go to the Client Service Centre to obtain the Internal Application Form for Postgraduate Studies

o Complete the necessary sections of the Internal Application Form for Postgraduate Studies and attach it to your Departmental Application Form and Academic Record

o The next step is to then deliver the forms to: - University of Pretoria Counter 1: Mrs Jean Pretorius; or

Student Administration Counter 4: Mrs Ria Claassen Faculty of Humanities IT Building, Room 2 – 9

o Also note currently enrolled UP students have NO application fee payable

5. Submission Information o Client Service Centre and Student Administration office hours are Mondays to Fridays, 08:00 to 16h00 o Please note that NO forms will be accepted by facsimile or email o The department is not responsible for applications mislaid in the post o Late applications will not be considered

Section 2: Selection Process and Notification 1. NO interviews are scheduled for the BSocSci Honours (Psychology) Programme, selection is based purely on

academic performance and no negotiations will be entered into.

2. Selection Process Timeline o Selection of student’s whom have already completed their degree and/or submitted all their marks by

04 December 2015 will be done on 07 December 2015. o Selection of student’s whose marks are still outstanding e.g. only released after 15 December 2015, will

only be done during January 2016 when the university reopens. o The first batch of students will be notified via email by 10 December 2015 of the outcome of the

December selection phase o The second batch of students (marks outstanding by 4 December 2015) will be notified via email by

18 January 2016 of the outcome of the January selection phase.

3. Correspondence with regards to the selection outcome o Should you be unsure of your selection status and submitted all your marks before 04 December 2015,

you can contact Mrs Jean Pretorius on [email protected] or Mrs Ria Claassen on [email protected] to assist you after 10 December 2015.

4. Applicants need to be aware of the following factors which will contribute to any decisions made by the selection panel: o Academic performance o Limited space available on the programme o Consideration of candidates from designated groups

NO feedback will be supplied should your application be unsuccessful.
