Geothermal • Contact Energy (in which Origin Energy is the 52.8 per cent shareholder) is one of New Zealand’s largest producers of geothermal electricity, with 290MW of power generated by the Wairekei and Tauhara geothermal power stations. • Origin Energy and Tata Power, in consortium with PT Supraco Indonesia, hold the Sorik Marapi geothermal exploration concession in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, which could support the development of 200–300 MW of geothermal generation capacity. • Origin Energy’s joint venture with Geodynamics is focused on harnessing Australia’s world class geothermal resources in the Innamincka region of central Australia. • In May 2011, Origin Energy announced the acquisition of a 40 per cent interest in Chile’s leading geothermal exploration company, Energia Andina. Gas

Hydro

• New Zealand’s Contact Energy (in which Origin Energy is the 52.8 per cent shareholder) is the owner of hydro projects including the 432MW Clyde power station and the 320MW Roxburgh power station.

• Origin Energy is evaluating the potential development of the 1800MW Purari Hydro Project in Papua New Guinea with joint venture partner the PNG Sustainable Development Programme.

• In April 2012, Origin Energy announced the acquisition of a 51 per cent interest in one of Chile’s leading hydro development companies, Energia Austral. Xstrata Copper retains a 49 per cent interest in the company.

Solar

• Transform Solar, a joint venture between Origin Energy and US-based Micron Technology, is working to examine opportunities for the commercialisation of solar photovoltaic technology.

• Origin Energy is Australia’s leading installer of solar rooftop systems as well as being the nation’s leading green energy retailer.

Wind

• Origin Energy built and operates the 30MW Cullerin Range Wind Farm, the first significant wind farm to become fully operational in New South Wales, Australia.

• Origin Energy continues to progress the development of Stockyard Hill Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia. Consisting of up to 157 turbines, the project will harness some of the region’s best wind resources to generate electricity.
