Photographe choyé par les célébrités, David Drebin est réputé pour son oeuvre profondemment cinématographique. Créant des mises en scènes dignes des plus grands films américains, il écrit avec brio un dialogue entre ses arrière-plans urbains, de New York à Hong Kong,

et les femmes fatales qui les habitent. L’ensemble, avec ses acteurs saisis comme au paroxysme d’une trame psychologique intense, est la résultante de plusieurs thèmes chers à l’artiste : la mélancolie, le sexe et l’humour. Chacune de ses photographies devient ainsi le

déclencheur de scenarios spécifiques à chacun de nous.

From September 5th, the Hollywood spirit takes over OPIOM Gallery with David Drebin’s exhibition. A celebrity favourite, Drebin is famous for his deeply cinematographic images. Staging dramatic scenes within opulent cityscapes from New York to Hong-Kong, Drebin’s

pictures tell us a story. Like stills excerpted from a movie, they depict its climax, that very moment when everything is about to change. Indeed, the profound cinematographic nature of Drebin’s work is linked to his inclination for topics such as melancholy, humor and sex.

Both voyeuristic and psychological, his creations have the ability to re,ind us of scenarios specific to each and every one of us.

Né à Toronto en 1970, David Drebin et diplômé de la Parsons School of Design. Il se fait très vite remarquer pour ses portraits de célébri-tés (Bryan Ferry, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Bradley Cooper, John Legend, Sandra Bernhard, Kevin Bacon, Diane Von Furstenberg, Bow Wow, etc.), s’ensuivent alors d’importantes campagnes publicitaires internationales pour les plus marques et corporations les plus impor-tantes, de Davidoff à American Express.

En 2005, il présente sa première exposition à Berlin, passant ainsi du statut de photographe professionnel à celui d’artiste, entériné par la sor-tie d’une monographie intitulée Love and Other Stories. Régulièrement publié chez TeNeues, ses livres s’accompagnent d’expositions dans des galeries internationales de Miami à Istanbul, aux cotés d’artistes lé-gendaires comme Andy Warhol ou Helmut Newton. Le dernier en date, baptisé Beautiful Disasters, sera bientôt suivi d’une nouvelle publication en 2015.

Depuis, ses oeuvres ont trouvé leur place dans des collections privées d’importance majeure et battent régulièrement des records de ventes aux enchères (Phillips de Pury; Christie’s; Bloomsbury; Cornette de Saint Cyr) ou lors des foires, telle Central Park, aujourd’hui épuisée, négociée à 78000 dollars à Art Miami en 2010.

Originally born in Toronto Canada, David Drebin graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City and has been based in NYC ever since . He rapidly made a name for himself as an internationally renowned photographer by creating portraits of celebrities (Bryan Ferry, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Bradley Cooper, John Legend, Sandra Bernhard, Kevin Bacon, Diane Von Furstenberg, Bow Wow, etc.). These were quickly followed by campaigns for the most important brands worldwide, from Davidoff to American Express.

Regularly published by teNeues, his books are often paired with exhibitions in the most prestigious international galleries and art fairs, from Miami to Is-tanbul, alongside with legendary artists like Helmut Newton, Chuck Close or Andy Warhol. His most recent book, Beautiful Disasters, will soon be followed by a new monograph to be published in 2015.

Collected worldwide, his photographs can be found in major private collec-tions and regularly reach record-breaking prices, whether it be at auction (Phillips de Pury; Christie’s; Bloomsbury; Cornette de Saint Cyr; etc.) or dur-ing art fairs, such as Central Park - which was sold for $78,000 at Art Miami in 2010.
