Since 1913, they have built a global fashion empire filled with red-soled shoes and perfect black suits in more than 300 stores worldwide. But Prada’s most ambitious project to date has nothing to do with ap-parel at all. FONDAZIONE PRADA has staged roa-ming exhibitions of everyone from Anish Kapoor to Steve McQueen in an old distillery, a scruffy indus-trial area beyond the railway tracks. Nine differing spaces within the compound offer a range of sizes, scales, and flexibility. Some of the spaces remain raw, others manipulated. Join us on a ride through eye-catching visuals and gigantic installations.

FONDAZIONE PRADAArchitecture
The Fondazione is not a preservation project and not a new architecture. Two conditions that are usually kept separate here confront each other in a state of permanent interaction — offering an ensemble of fragments that will not congeal into a single image, or allow any part to dominate the others. New, old, horizontal, vertical, wide, narrow, white, black, open, enclosed — all these contrasts establish the range of oppositions that define the new Fondazione.

Bar Luce
Designed by film director Wes Anderson, Bar Luce recreates the atmosphere of a typical Milanese café. Although his movies often favor symmetrical tableaux, Anderson feels that ‘there is no ideal angle for this space. It is for real life, and ought to have numerous good spots for eating, drinking, talking and reading.

An Introduction
fondazioneprada.org/projects/an-introduction
AN INDRODUCTION“An Introduction”: an intense exhibition project — emerged from a dialogue between Miuccia Prada and Germano Celant — alluding to a path between institutional and personal, leading to methods of research and collecting. It intertwines a study and passion for art that has taken on public and private characteristics and led to the opening of the Fondazione.

The result is a body of artworks and objects that supply information about the past, present and future of an existential adventure. They introduce an image of impassioned, committed people who have followed a route of active and radiating awareness: the reaction to the vital strength of ideas becomes the focus of a lifetime.

THOMAS DEMANDProcesso grottesco, 2006
In 2006, in order to realize the photographic work Grotto, Thomas Demand used a postcard as his starting point in recreating a grotto located on the island Maiorca. Employing 30 tons of grey cardboard, shaped with the help of a com-puter and laid out to form a stratification with 900,000 sections, the artist recreated the rock chamber, stalactites and stalagmites displayed on the postcard in order to photograph the work.

VIETNAM Water and Lotus
The lotus flower is widespread in Vietnam, growing from the mud and expressing a disarming beauty with a capacity for purifying the water in which it thrives. This double image was chosen to convey the message of Vietnam to the international community about its commitment to actively protecting the environment and water resources.
Rice, coffee, pepper, dried fruits and seafood are its most exported products and are exhibited at Expo Milano 2015 in 887 square meters, giving maximum emphasis to the essence of Vietnamese cuisine.

Brazil is interpreting the theme of Expo Milano 2015, Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life, by providing a number of solutions connected to its technologi-cal capacity within agriculture contexts and its ability to extend the production of food and its related exports. Another aspect is its capacity for satisfying social demand without damaging biodiversity, which is a fundamental resource for achieving balance throughout the entire planet. Brazil’s participation at the Expo is based on three key points: technological, underscoring its development and reliability as a potential technology partner that is both innovative and efficient; cultural, highlighting its plurality through a range of typical products, and social, guaranteeing global, healthy food that is accessible to all.

The Kingdom of Bahrain’s pavilion at the Milan Expo 2015 presents an interpretation of the relationships that tie together the country’s agrarian heritage and culture. The centerpiece of the pavilion pays homage to this rich heritage, which consists of 10 distinct fruit gardens, each bearing their fruit at different times during the six-month long Expo.

Japan’s participation unfurls essentially around two words: Health and Edutainment, or educational entertainment. Its typical dishes, based on rice, raw fish and vegetables are proposed as a balanced way of eating, contrasting with the excesses that can lead to obesity for a billion people. Projects for schools are also a vehicle for traditional concepts encouraging sharing and discouraging wastefulness.

The German Pavilion translates the German field and meadow landscape into its architecture in a striking and surprising way: a building consisting of a gently sloping landscape level with a freely accessible surface and a thematic exhibition inside. In this landscape, with clearly discernible fields, stylised plants grow as "idea seedlings" up from the exhibition to the exterior surface, creating a large, protective canopy. These are the connecting elements, dovetailing the exterior and interior, the architecture and the exhibition itself.

Fashion weeks, feast days, and nights dedicated to nothing more than the joyful things in life – MILAN
is the heart of Italian wealth and style. The second largest city in the country behind Rome holds a strong position as the capital of the of fashion indus-try along with powerful names of Paris, New York and London. Stylish shops are popping up next to landmark gothic churches. While gorgeous models cross the streets with their army of assistants, the smell of pasta is in the air.
The urban look of the city may not exactly make heads turn but as we do feel that the inspiration gathered in Milan is extraordinary.
