MADE OF: •In plants, cell walls are made of cellulose fiber, polysaccharides and proteins. In bacteria, cell walls are made of polysaccharides and peptidoglycan.

FUNCTION:•Maintaining/determining cell shape•Support and mechanical strength•Prevents the cell membrane from bursting (resists water pressure)•Controls rate and direction of cell growth•Regulates the cell volume•Has a metabolic role (some proteins in cell walls are enzymes in transport)•Physical barrier to pathogens and water in suberized cells•Stores carbohydrates
