Introduction
• Facebook® is a “social networking website”
• Facebook® is a free service that allows you to create an online
page to connect with friends, family, or make new friends
with anyone anywhere.
• On your Facebook® page you can share pictures, personal
information , messages, videos , join groups and add
applications.
History of Facebook
• The website was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo
Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes in 2004.
• All founders were students at Harvard University.
• Membership was originally restricted to students of Harvard
College, and within the first month, more than half the
undergraduate population at Harvard was registered on the
service.
• Facebook founders promoted the website. It became highly
used by universities in the United states and gradually most
universities in Canada.
• Day after day, the website became an interesting investment
for entrepreneurs, Facebook became incorporated in mid 2004.
• In 2007, Microsoft announced that it had purchased a 1.6%
share of Facebook for $240 million, giving Facebook a total
implied value of around $15 billion.
• The latest news about Facebook state that In April 2012
Facebook bought the application Instagram for US$1 billion.
